I watched Gilmore Girls so I know this already. For Harvard: top grades, extracurricular activities, charity work and no sex. Paris learned this the hard way.
No because I'm watch Gilmore girls rn and i watched the episode where they were in senior year and they did like a panel and all of a sudden i started worrying
Tbh watching these shorts to give me an insight on how it is in the US makes me very happy to be in the country I am. So much less stress and you don't have to fill up your schedule to the max.
@@your_-_mom i dont know how colleges are in my country but they're free. i never went to one because i already have my education i went for (store management) and my job pays enough.
Ivy League Universities are one of the most prestigious and extremely hard to get into higher education institutions in the whole world. These types of universities expect so much from you, and it can be a lot of pressure to deal with. Personally, with grades, I'd never, ever get into at least one of them. Would've been a great opportunity. Anyway, glad you got accepted. It's such a big privilege.
@@oanochie dude actually jee paper (IIT entrance exam) is much tougher than SAT, thats why IIT has less acceptance rate , although doesn't come under 200 best colleges 😅😅😅😅
@@abhinavchowdhary4596 no one cares. MIT is the best in the world and where all the innovations in the world of engineering and technology come from: who cares how tough entrance exam is if the school sucks?
@@oanochie yeah , i also think mit is better , but there is a certain reason why most of the great programmers in world are from India ..... Because of IIT ....it is known for making best to best programmers not innovation
Hello, I've used some of your tips for some time and because of your tips I managed to get all A's! Even though I was in 7th grade, I still managed to do pretty well by getting motivation from your videos!
i just don’t know how i should get all a‘s, have 5 hobbies i do every week, do charity, do something MEANINGFUL (whats considered meaningful?) in my school, and somehow still be „special“ and „different“ from everyone else which is practically not possible cause there’s always this person who has done a thing for their whole entire life but you’re just naturally kinda good at that. WHILST SLEEPING EIGHT HOURS AND EATING WELL AND MAYBE EVEN EXERCISING
@@beastasfiist I know. For some reason I feel terrible when sleeping 8 hours; it's as if I've only slept for 5. It has to be 8 1/2 which really sucks but it is what it is
This is really helpful because I am an Indian and ivy leagues are usually the colleges Indians get into so if I don’t I feel like I will let my mom down. So thank you so much!
Wow... please don't have this unhealthy mindset. When you set your expectations too high, your self esteem becomes unstable and ready to crash at any failure to reach perfectionism. Just be proud that you took the steps necessary to make yourself a considerable ivy league candidate.
I'm an international applicant and I'm freaking out because GPA here can't be higher than 4, we don't use it to get into college, the mean GPA of my school is near 2 and mine is like 3.5 😑 but its okay, it might grow to 3.7 soon, I hope, wish me good luck for applying Yale this year
People are telling me I’m taking on too much. Can you give your opinion? Dance(four hours a week) Musical(minimum twelve hours a week) Choir(during school) Civil Air Patrol(Four hours a week)
Hey, the video's really cool. In terms of activities, how much should they be corellated? Like, can I write a blog and head a school magazine or should I try to diversify? I've read a lot of articles on having a spike to get into these places, but how much of that is actually a good idea? I don't want to appear too narrow in my interests.
This was my personal experience. You want to be able to clearly show your interests but also, as you said, be diverse in your activities so as not to come off as narrow-minded. If you want to be a journalist, for example, try out for the school’s newspaper, intern at a local radio or news station, etc. This will show that you’re passionate about what you want to be and you’re ready to devote yourself. When picking activities, sort them into groups based on your passions. You’ve already got the school newspaper, an internship at a news station, now what? You like helping the homeless? Go to a soup kitchen, create a not for profit business. You like building? Volunteer as a help for woodworking classes. You like cooking? Create a business, donate food, help at a shelter. The point of what I’m saying, when picking your activities, choose as many as you want. Have clear interests so the college/university knows what you like and what you can do. Don’t go free rein and pick everything, it looks eager. Hope this helped!
Also for college essays. Don’t do something weird just so that you look like a “I’m not like other applicants” (ie pick me girl/boy). I saw something that was like this girl wrote about cosco hot dogs so do something weird like that. No don’t. The hot dogs probably related to her and her life. If you don’t have something like you get a ikea cinnamon roll after church every Sunday and that’s special to you because it shows how you put your faith first or whatever don’t write about that. Maybe you had a traumatic thing that happened to you or an extracurricular that changed your life for the better or worse. Harvard and pretty much every college on the planet does not care if you are trying to be a pick me girl because they don’t want thay. Be original and unique without sounding like an idiot
Being in asia it's normal..... Let me take my own example : -->I am my branch topper in my university(ranking - top 50 in india). -->I have also done an internship with course. -->I am also pretty much confident on scoring 330+ on GRE. -->I can easily score 8+ bands in IELTS as I have better profiency in english than my other indian mates. -->I am electrical engineer with the skills of AI and ML. -->I am also planning to do 10-15 projects in ML/AI or even research paper if possible! And also I am planning to do masters in USA as you could have seen that comming by reading about GRE. And after doing all of these I don't think that I can make it to ivy....and even if I managed to get an admit from top US university there is no iron clad guarantee that I will get my student visa approved! Things are crazy at here!
@@StygianSpecter wow, that is amazing! I wish I could do something like that, I’m not that smart but I’m very proud of you! I can’t imagine the standards there
@@Merps_0 Thanks for reading my comment and replying I really appreciate that....And just one thing I want to say especially for you that is, what makes me unique, successful or any other thing that you can think of is not due to my smartness at all, it's due to what I believe......And I believe in never ever giving up no matters what happens, literally if thanos comes and snap out the half population rn or even if there's full scale invasion it will not stop me from what I want to acheive in my life, I will keep doing it till my last breath.....And lastly never ever ever undermine yourself, all the things in the world starts and ends with you and you only! @@Merps_0 Hey, I don't want to appear sticky or patronizing......But if you haven't watch the show called 'suits' I strongly reccomend you to watch it.....There is a amazing character portrayed in the show named 'Harvey Spectre', a lot to learn from him.......I used to deprive confidence, it was lost due to my past trauma's.....But after watching this show my life improved a lot, it made me more passionate about my dreams and goals, and helped me to regain my confidence......Hope it helps
Hey Gohar! MIT is my dream university, and I saw from the website, that you need to apply to get into it in Grade 11 end/12. So, can you please guide me that when should I sit for the SATs, as that marks is important? And how do I maintain a high GPA?
@stillfindingtherightsnare Very wrong. I think you're confusing the year in which you apply. From India, you apply in the middle of 12th, so you must take the sat before it.
Gonna be honest mate, from India, the only people who get in are Olympiad medalists. It's very simple. You could have a full fledged startup and still be rejected. Kinda understandable though, because actual geniuses get selected for the Indian team haha because of the steep competition.
@stillfindingtherightsnare Applying to usa after boards means that you will be applying as a gap year student. Nothing wrong with it, but very doable in 12th. I am currently in 12th and have been managing my sat and ap's along with my board prep. I'm also doing a lot of extracurriculars as well, so it's a bit packed for me.
I'm just gonna go to my local community College because I have scholarships from foreign languages, ap, etc. I think I'm smart enough to get into ivy leagues but it doesn't seem worth the effort and cost.
Love community college. Idk it seems like a major upgrade from high school. And honestly between you and me. You will relate a great deal with the people there. Maybe it's because of the similar socioeconomic and similar upbringing backgrounds and the struggle that make for great story telling.
Can we get a separate video through an Indian prospective because education system in india is entirely different and we’re forced to study like machines which results in no time for extracurriculars and hobbies
I mean it's manageable unless you're preparing for jee and stuff. I'm currently in 12th and while it's a bit packed, I'm managing my boards prep along with testing, ec's, essays and other stuff.
He is talking about colleges specifically in the Ivy League (which is in the USA ) why would he make a video on the Indian perspective when he hasn’t even gone to college in india
Sometimes i feel like throwing up when i think about high school, just one more year and boom im there. Im learning japanese and done the cello for three years but i feel like these are pretty lackluster things about me. I dont know what to do!😭
because it is the bare minimum. They have 100,000 students who have perfects GPAs applying...doesn't mean much. What makes you a leader, how will you uniquely change the world in the future through creativity, intellect, and initiative. That sets you apart and makes you Harvard material. Good grades just makes you a good college student, you can go to any other top college, but Harvard wants more, and that is why they bred nobel laureates, leaders of industry, etc.
Great job but less you going into big business, law or politics there is no reason to go to an ivy league school. They are mainly expensive country clubs.
Didn’t bother watching, but I want to say here that getting into and IVY LEAGUE doesn’t matter. Sure for your first job maybe the offering might be 20% less, but in the long-term companies care about experience. It’s so funny to me that somebody like Gohar, a graduate from an Ivy, doesn’t use a lick of his degree for a living, he his own self-intuition to promote how to get into such schools. Know that truly, your are not your university, your GPA, or your degree. Please stay mentally sane yall, I knew a friend who took his life over failing an AP test
