You are 100% right. Just went through this with my son. He was a later bloomer so to speak, and is still developing as a LHP. He had some interest from D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO. He committed to JUCO because he felt they had the best program for him to develop to the next level in baseball and hopefully transfer to a D1 school in 2 years. He connected with the coaching staff right away and felt comfortable with them and their philosophy. Also, he's getting 80% of it paid for through scholarships.

How did it turn out? How’s he doing?
@rudimentalgardening

@@thejmc4074 Many things happened, and not in his favor, but he has prevailed. The summer he graduated from high school we found out that he had a torn labrum in his left shoulder (LHP). He had a scholarship with Grayson College in the Fall and he had been practicing with them on and off during his senior year. He was so excited to go, but we had to make a decision. After seeing three doctors and talking to different coaches, including the pitching coach at Grayson, we decided to move forward with getting the surgery done and taking a gap year to save a year of eligibility. The head coach at Grayson had promised him that he would honor his scholarship the following year. My son worked his ass off and did his rehab to a tee. June of the next summer we find out that the coach is leaving and going to another JUCO, and, unfortunately, left him high and dry. It was too late to try to find another program for the Fall at that point and he was devastated. Luckily, a coach up in Kansas had seen him play and called him last minute and offered him a scholarship to play - even knowing he was coming off the labrum surgery. He played there all last year but did not like the coach or program. He transferred to Norther Oklahoma College and loves it there. So he is now completely rehabilitated, throwing better than he ever has, and this spring is hopefully his breakout season to get noticed by D1 schools. He is velo is up to 91, he added a changeup to his arsenal and I can't wait to watch him play! He has a great work ethic and has stuck to his dream.

You are exactly right! We used Field Level with our travel ball coach and used your video format to showcase my son. He got to be a Juco Bandit in North Carolina!

Love your vids Matt. I couldn't play baseball because I couldn't see the ball no matter what glasses or contacts I tried. Just could never pick the ball up. I love the game more than any other sport. I played football and was a pretty good wrestler, but I still wanted to play baseball. Anyways, i love to hear these types of insider stuff that I might never have known if I didn't play. Thanks for all of these vids Matt.

Grades are super important. I was a great ball player.. but recruiting time Came, coaches D2 or so.. I had one D1 coach. And my gpa was so low it can’t be represented by real numbers.. anyway, they said if I got my grades up I’d have a chance, but I never got them up.. screwed my self out of playing college ball

Isn't it a case of numbers? There are say 30 guys at your position with the same ability or about the same. So they cut it down first by school grades. So in reality high grades will make it easier to fit into a school. The next question is why do you want to go to that school. What classes are you going to take? What is the plan B? What is the percentage of players from school X actually make it to the show? The school is using you so you better use them.

Coach I am about to enter high school I am the number 2 guy in the rotation on the varsity team I am a RHP I top out at 72 but pull down 77. I have really really good command. How hard do you think I need to be throwing to get a D1 offer from any D1 school?
@thesamandress

You need to be mid to high 80s as a senior with command and a solid secondary pitch

Matt, in your opinion, how do you think today's ML players compare to those of yesteryear? in 1909, for instance, there were 16 teams in the league and the US had a population base of 90.5 mil. Today, there are 30 ML teams with a population of 327.2 mil. Some would say there are players in the Majors that could not have played before, because there were fewer teams. Others say that in today's game, pitching is diluted. You probably have heard most all the arguments, better athletes today, dead ball era vs. live, etc. Do you think it is fair to compare past to present, or is it better to compare players in the era in which they played, within a generation of their contemporaries?
@AntonelliBaseball

Today’s players are better. In every sport. Everything gets better. Better training methods and facilities, technology, etc. It’s a worldwide game now as well. Thanks for watching our stuff and commenting!

College baseball needs to change! 11.7 scholarships, our kids pay to play at an academy. Oh super sorry, parents pay 10s of thousands of dollars to play at academies, my bad! If you wanna play college baseball you shouldn’t graduate with $100k of debt being a scholarship athlete. NCAA baseball is #2 money generator only behind basketball, what a shame!!

First - do you really love baseball? Baseball at the highest levels is a job and is work. It's a business. Do you live baseball? That's the 1st question. 2nd.... develop your skills like a pro. Work your ass off over a period of time and I mean work your ass odd. When your skills are at peak see where you stand and be true to yourself. Be real with where your skills fit. 3rd.... go where you are going to play by year 2. Sitting on the bench sucks Last.... if you really have the skills they will come and find you
