Congratulations....my son got into and will be attending Stanford as well this fall. Your advice on applications is spot on. I would also emphasize the importance of a strong thread of continuity between what you want to study, what you're activities have been, and how you intend to utilize the school to help you make a significant impact in the area you intend to study through your studies at the school.
W Video I'm 15 and going into my junior year at a public high school near Houston. This gave me a ton of motivation to keep doing the things I love to do to build my journey, and I'll have a much deeper essay come senior year. Thanks bro keep it up.

thanks man. im making stats + ecs video rn. i never made maker portfolio but I submitted the personalized video to Brown (which I recommend you to do so as well if you decide to apply). also yea even during your eventual college process don't tweak out over rejections - it's never that deep and they prolly never read your application
lol i am. my reactions are a little dull cause honestly i didn't care abt most of these colleges - also i took the advice that you should never go in with any expectation. even hypsm level colleges might not fit you as a person so just go with the flow lol

i got you - its in the making. ivies look for more liberal arts/generalists - stanford/duke/berk -> entrepreneur in STEM. i was honestly surprised too when it happened though lol
@@JKsmoove3 lol if i can give any advice to you - don't have a dream school. if you get rejected you will go crazy thinking about mistakes in your application. go with the flow. have reach schools, targets, and safeties, and be fine with any of your options
lol never knew how good of a school it was. just saw it on usnews cs rankings and applied. great school though and i was ready to go honestly after i did more research.
you gotta be like that or your gonna tweak out when you get rejected. don't fantasize about schools or when you get rejected you think abt it day and night
haha not sure what happened w/ uwash but uiuc has a crazy cs program (sub 5% acceptance rate) - uwash is also good but i was very surprised when i got rejected

thanks man; i got you w/ the video (stats + ecs + stanford essays); but generally the advice I have for essays is 1) common app - get 100000 people to look at it and MAKE SURE it is the best thing you've written in your life and tells your ENTIRE story (not just some random experience) 2) supplemental - show every single part of your personality; Stanford doesn't necessarily like quirky, but they like 3-dimensional people with niche interests who will change the world - make your essays personable and relaxed, but also with a subject matter that conveys you will change the world linkedin: www.linkedin.com/in/rishics/
honestly it just goes to show how random this process is - college admissions is so flawed - but also UIUC and UWash CS programs have very low acceptance rates even though the general colleges is high so it is also possible they just didn't feel like I fit into their school
hell nah - B's are detrimental but A's (in general) should be fine; just try to show an upward trend for grades (go for 94 next sem, 96 next, 98 next, 100 next) -> progress shows colleges you are getting better and will not negatively impact you. grades are just a barrier to entry (not a rzn to get in, but a rzn to get denied)
@@RohanChopra-ss4id yea but my school used the 100 scale. gpa really isn't standardized so there isn't a purpose in re-calculating your gpa with stuff that your school doesn't use. your weightage systems would reflect in your class rank, and other wise schools would understand your gpa is good if its >4.0 and sat is high. but for your question its literally just the (insert gpa here/100)*4

@@hopsmax2827 no. you can take none and go TO (test optional). you can take one and submit that single score. you can take both and submit both to colleges through the common app. up to you, your motivation, your test taking ability, and your scores
yea cac doesn't care about topic - just use some cutting edge tech (ai/ml right now) and you should usually win unless some crazy person is also competing with you

@@RohanChopra-ss4id i started fucking around w it in like 7th ish - but actually started 9th; intl can prepare it's just probably on your own time; you gotta do your own research for contests but for hackathons look at devpost - everything else is based on your major/what you want to do
i went in with no expectations and honestly just shotgunned the top cs schools. didn't really have any infatuation with any of them (other than USC at the start but got put into RD; i started tweaking after this so I decided to not fantasize about any more schools); also some of these schools are amazing, but I only realized after researching them post-acceptance
