Honestly, the vase + palm leaf combo looks great. I think you should put some rocks in the bottom of the vase rather than painting it.

There are LED lamps that are very similar to the one you got at walmart for $6 so for anyone looking for a cheap desk lamp I'd look there. Our walmart has a tiny section for college supplies. So I would check it out. :3
