College Football Programs with a LOT to Prove in 2024 | Ohio State, Miami, FSU, Florida, Penn State 

Ohio State is loaded this season and that concerns me as a Buckeyes fan because their best seasons have been when they weren’t expected.

Ryan Day at OSU has to be the top pick for hot seat, and it sounds crazy, but if being good and popular was the only thing that mattered he'd be set for however long he wants, but if they want titles, he has to prove he can do it this year. This is by far their most talented team, the gap between OSU and the rest of the top 5 teams is pretty significant (except at QB, I love Will Howard but he's definitely more of a game manager than a game changer). You're also looking at some of your top competition at the top going through transitions. Despite being left out, if FSU were returning their core from last year, they'd be a top tier playoff team, they're not though. Alabama has a new coach to transition through. That obviously leaves Washington in a full crash back down to earth year themselves, and Ohio State should be better than Oregon. That just leaves Georgia. They re-tooled and reloaded but Ohio State should have a talent advantage everywhere on the field except QB, or at least a wash in terms of talent and depth. That leaves it down to coaching. Ryan Day inherited a beast of a team. Not just the players Urban Meyer had recruited and left him with, but just the state of that football program as a whole. One of the top teams in the richest (if not best) conference in the nation. Fully established with a massive fan base, and enormous alumni base. More than ready for NIL collectives, more than willing to go out and acquire talent at whatever cost (money, time, effort, etc). With all that Ryan Day has gone 56-8, but 2-4 in bowl games, and 1-3 in CFP games. 11-1 his first year, but missing out on the playoff in 2018. Next season his best chance, perfect regular season and just barely fumbled the CFP against Clemson. 2020 was a strange year overall, but they didn't stand a chance against Alabama, and then the losses to Michigan began. '21 they also lost to Oregon in the shoe, and needed nearly 600 yards out of Stroud to beat Utah in their bowl game. '22 and '23 they ended the season losing to Michigan and lost their bowl game. One a CFP semi final, the other a 14-3 Cotton Bowl loss to Mizzou in an era I believe bowl games teams that just missed the CFP are in no longer matter, to the teams or to us. Any other team that's an amazing run. The talent level and amount of funding Ohio State has though, that's just not enough. I think it's easy to imagine if Day can't beat Michigan this year, who themselves are like 126th in returning production and have a new head coach to contend with) and miss the playoffs again, he's likely on the way out. Their road trip to Eugene is tougher, I think, than people are anticipating. I can't imagine him losing to Michigan, and that's why I think he's probably packing bags if he does. It's unfathomable this year. Even two losses probably still sees them in the CFP, but I think anything other than a B1G title/bye week would be a massive disappointment. Losing to Michigan, again, and not making it to the national title game with this team? Oof.

I just a point of information Gainesville is south of Tallahassee and not in the panhandle. You might want to brush up on your geography.

Miami will win 10+ games, will win the ACC, and make the playoffs. Meanwhile, the noles will win 8-9 if they're lucky, and won't even make it to the ACCCG.
