Princeton is now working hard to admit more transfer students. They created a program call TSI ( transfer scholar initiative ).

Super unrelated, but is it still possible to transfer after freshman year to a school with high prestige even with a pretty bad highschool GPA (my example is 3.0 HS gpa dn 4.0 in college so far)

Hey Brooke, you should do a video on Harvard Extension School and it’s interesting admission policy of get 3 Bs and your in! No gpa test scores essays etc. and you get a real Harvard degree???!!??

4:51 -- "...letting in significantly more people as transfers than they are as undergraduates." Should that have been "significantly higher percentage of the applicants"? I say that because the number of transfer applicants at any school is FAR fewer than the number of regular applicants. For example, Stanford's dataset for 2020 says they had 45,227 first-time, first-year applicants while they had 2,216 transfer applicants. Another example, UPenn's dataset for 2020 says they had 42,205 first-time, first-year applicants while they had 2,506 transfer applicants. Anyway, your video was very helpful as always. Thank you.

No matter the college… At the end of the day you still have the same degree doing the same job!

I can see why students decide to transfer for so many reasons. One being that my university is so depressing. I live in this small town out of nowhere, and I just feel like I don't fit in. It's my second year now, and I'm just dreading to transfer and experience a new college vibe.

Despite the name, TAG doesn’t guarantee you a spot at the uni you applied for. I had a friend who did TAG for UCSB, and he still got rejected somehow even with a 4.0. The rest of his app must’ve been lacking but still, it shows that it’s not an absolute guarantee.
@groque1654
@groque1654 2 года назад
Wow I didn’t know that was even a possibility, that sounds as disatisfying as it it gets. I did consider the TAG route but ultimately went with TAP instead. Hope their doing alright.
@JackHagar
@JackHagar 2 года назад
@@groque1654 TAP is also fantastic, I did the same and got into UCLA with mid tier extracurricular/essays and a 3.88 GPA

@@JackHagar Congrats, I got accepted for this fall but unfortunately didn't get much aid and decided to attend another uni. TAP definitely helped and was overall a good experience, I only had 3.6.

@@groque1654 Aghhh, well still, congrats on the acceptance! That alone is a nice achievement. I feel you on the aid thing though, I’m only doing UCLA cause I’m lucky enough to be a state resident which cuts tuition in half. I wanted USC and got accepted there as well, but I didn’t get much aid and couldn’t do it. It’s a shame how finances play such a big part in our education.. but I’m sure we’ll both be happy wherever we may go. Where did you decide to go? Also I love your spino profile pic haha

@@JackHagar Yeah I remember waiting for UCLA's decison and finally receiving it and having to make a list of pros and cons between my top choices, only to see the financial aid offered. I decided to attend Berkeley. Also thanks lol paleontology has always been a big interest of mine.

SAT

@jiangmath777phoenix 2 года назад
@@SupertutorTV Hello, May I know why you prefer the SAT? The ACT is much more straightforward and contains easy questions to pick up even though the speed is fast.
@brookifyd
@brookifyd 2 года назад
@@jiangmath777phoenix I like the challenge of it. I'm more of an abstract thinker naturally so I did better on SAT out the gate as a student also. I find the passages more interesting and engaging and I like the way it rewards cleverness. ACT is a fast test also, and I'd rather be super careful and slow than quick.

Great info. I have a question though: When this transfer acceptance rate seems to change every year or so, how can you predict if this rate will still apply by the time you are applying to that school? Or am I misunderstanding something…
@SupertutorTV
@SupertutorTV 2 года назад
Rates of admission change every year and COVID and test optional have increased variance- but schools that historically have higher rates of transfer admission are generally better bets
@AlchemicalJournals
@AlchemicalJournals 2 года назад
@@SupertutorTV Okay, thanks for the reply. After I saw this I started looking up transfer acceptance rates and it seems that Dartmouth has dipped back down to 2% transfer acceptance in 2022, so this kind of threw me off a bit. Makes it seem difficult to predict where things will be at the time that an admissions office looks at an application. So, from what you said, it seems safe to expect that schools who have more consistently had a higher transfer acceptance rate than freshman acceptance rate will remain that way?

Great video Brooke. My son got a reject from Purdue - West Lafayette but got admitted to Purdue - North West Campus - Computer Science. Does he have a chance for a transfer after a year or two years if his academics are good.
