Defence Minister Judith Collins has lashed out at what she calls "deeply misogynist" comments about the sinking of the HMS Manawanui and its captain, Commander Yvonne Gray.
Why is this woman spending time looking up people who comment online,, Mabey she should keep her comments on the job at hand,, Not worrying about a truck driver in Australia. You're not the justice minister anymore.stop spying on people. Remember you done as good a job at that than the captain of this ship.
She is a member of the armed forces, who cares what random people say, harden tf up or get a new job. The defence minister should have a background in the nz military, a retired Lt colonel would be more use in the defence department than someone who can't identify the difference between a destroyer or a cruiser. These unqualified people need to go that's why we are in such a state, the blind leading the seeing into the abyss.
Crusher using 'misogyny' to cover her ass, her big ego sank that ship, now we have a $100 million deficit and cleanup/compensation that could end up being more than the ship. This is an international embarrassment and makes us look weak.
Oh come on Judith.Address the problem not the cyber dribble. Commander grey was the master of the vessel and the responsibility ultimately lies with her. That is not speculation but a fact.
Jesus christ. Why even acknowledge the sexist comments. Focus on the problem of the chemicals leaking into the water. Finding a handful of hateful comments online should not constitute any kind of air time. Fix the immediate issues at hand then deal with the politics.
Looking into sexist comments is way more important than the job at hand. Why worry about a ship that's already sunk. This Australian truck driver could be behind on his insurance, his truck could even have an oil leak. I think we need an inquiry into him followed by a press conference.
It's embarrassing to say the least for the government and navy, I expect the enquiry to bury the truth to play this down. The people of Samoa will be devastated with this catastrophic disaster, hopefully this doesn't ruin their food and tourism industry.
Judith, is more angry at mean comments from someone she has never met than to find out why a major naval asset was lost and how it was allowed to hit a reef. I think the reef has roght of way, should send it off to the NZ Police to do a crash report. More interested in talking about who someone wants to sleep woth rather than why she sailed in to an inanimate object tjat was there lomg before the ship was!
They announce the list of council like they are being promoted. A boat whos primary objective was mapping the sea floor ran into sea floor, burst into flames and sunk. Regardless, they will hide any negligence.
Why we don't have SEABORNE INFRA- STRUCTURE that should be WORLD CLASS, for a WORLD CLASS RNZN. Is UNFORGIVABLE. WE are a sea bound nation, with STRONG Watercraft History, WE should be making our own SHIPS. NZ should be our 200 mile limit and CONTINENT .
im not here to condone any 'sexist' comments, i would however point out sec 14 of the Bill of Rights that these people have sworn and fought to protect. Considering she is Minister of Defence, you'd think she would respect someones right to freedom of expression especially while she's commenting in her official capacity. But hey, her husband is from Samoa so... kefe
The problem is that DEI hiring of wackos has led to this, the captain may be totally qualified but the public no longer trust that is the prime criterea for the job,the perception is that a lesbian got the job because of that status,we have examples all over the world of this occuring. If you did not expect this reaction, you did not think it through.I have spent some time at sea in command and i can tell you that there is no way i would be taking a vessel of that size and draught anywhere near a reef in poor weather and if they were surveying, surely they have a smaller vessel on board to carry out that survey,if it was too rough for the smaller boat they should not have been there, messing about just before darkness on a reef smacks of recklessness.
Judith is right about one thing. The gender of whomever wrecked a 100 million navy boat is not at issue. In the defence force if someone makes a mistake someone needs to own up. Manawanui didn't make itself a new home on that reef without help. Hoping for a transparent inquiry
Why don't we have a NZDF Afghan veteran like National MP Tim Costley ,be Minister of Defense, one would say he has the Merit and qualifications ,rather than a staid politicians who have no military understanding like Former Labour Defense Minister Peeni Henare(had to be replaced by Andrew Little) - maybe because of DEI policy!!! Also I am a supporter of Ron Marks.
