RIP Jerry and Alana - one of the most recognisable players in world rugby and truly one of the greats. I used to love watching Jerry Collins play for the All Blacks when I was growing up, what a player he was. I also can't believe he was only 34 - for a guy that's seemingly been around forever, that's so tragically young. Sleep tight, big man, we'll remember all the big hits!
Jerry Collins doesn’t know what handbrake stop is. He runs it straight. But you see what Chabel did there? Yes that’s right. Saw jerry and hit the handbrakes lol
What makes this hit great. The Look on chabal face before he tries catching the ball. At that very moment you can tell he knew collins was coming. He tried to play hot potatoe with the ball instead of going head up.
Im from NZ and i actually agree that this tackle was nothing compared to his hits on masoe and ali williams... But the all blacks are still the most formidable rugby team this planet will ever see!!
Their supporters are very gracious too, when it comes to the All Blacks. When they beat us in Cardiff in 2007, the French supporters there celebrating apologised and said they were just very happy they had beaten the All Blacks because they respect them. Not that I had a problem with it: to the victor go the spoils. They did miss the semis in 1991 btw. Lost to England in the quarters in Paris. The Mick Skinner tackle and Blanco going nuts match.
Still, he runs, he hits, and whatever is on the way breaks. Not many can do that. Not a great player, but a fucking powerful intimidating beast, and that's the deal. Welcome to rugby.
Though the hit wasn't explosive looking, Chabal was still hurting. The hit Chabal did to Collins, Collins still stood up and brushed it off. Just because it doesnt look hard, doesnt mean it didnt hurt.
the one at the start. the one where chabal loses the ball, possession and 20 yards. the one that takes chabal 20 seconds to recover from. the one that causes chabal to go off soon after. catch up!
Collins has one of the highest pain tolerance levels for a player I have ever seen. Did you see Chabal get hit in the World Cup Play off against Argentina? he was moping around on the ground for ages. Obviously you don't know a lot about Rugby if you think Chabal is a tougher man than Collins.
The impact power is basically mass x velocity. hence you get hit by a magnum 44 slug in your chest you go backwards and off your feet. The actual weight of the bullet is small it's velocity is enormous. hence a rugby player that is compact , well proportioned good legs etc and especially fast can have a decent impact. Hardest hits are sometimes done by small sized players.
so true... i watched a replay of that quarter final and dusautoir had collins marked for nearly the whole game (well the time he was on for until he got injured :P)
As a fellow kiwi agree with you completely, love playing the French but it's a fool who bets either way on those games! Still, nothing beats beating the English!
This hit is quite mediocre in comparison with some of the massive ones on youtube. Don't know why it nearly 3.5 million views. Both these players in their respected countries are ledgneds.
Its not a "big" hit in terms of power or damage, but it did turn the ball over as Chabal threw it away like a hot potatoe. People love Chabal because he is big and easily recognized. He has WWF appeal. He is also a good pack player.
This is exactly the good moment to choose if you want to fell and knockout a rugby player I mean when the player is about to catch the ball, he is not seeing what is rushing on him so the hit is more loud.
I find it funny that Chebal sees Jerry coming and throws the ball away. when Chebal lined Chris Masoe up from 20 metres Masoe atleast tried to hold onto the ball
@elti54 He's just an impact player, he doesn't have good skills, just powerful. He's not the kind of player I really like but he has a personality, and thanks to this personnality people likes him.
Exactly true payback for his tackle on Masoe in the test the previous week.JC lined him up and showed him who's boss. The Hitman.R.I.P There will never be another like you JC
haha I know him personally (grew up in the same place) so I dont really want to say on an open forum like this. But dont get me wrong hes still a legend on the field.
Haha Chabal knew what was coming and came to a standstill before the tackle, he's not stupid he would have been snapped in half if he had run full tilt into Collins.
you're right, us french we are like "look Chabal, he's a caveman, he'll beat them all", while we are forgetting that rugby is about skill as much as muscles. Plus New Zealand players are all build on the same blueprint Chabal was made. French all think he's a great player because he's such a big guy, but the truth is he doesn't match any of the new zealand players.
