I have not been to Latin America, so I can't comment on Colombia. It might be wonderful, I just don't know. But I'll say this: Vietnam is SPECTACULAR. The food is delicious. The scenery is out of this world, whether it's beaches or mountains. The people are friendly and helpful once u get to know them. The prices are cheap as hell and you can live like a God for two weeks.
Colombia is not for me, 3 months and I’m sorry , can’t live like them. They really do think backwards and anything bad that happens to you , you are blame at all times. Can’t trust anyone , who wants that . I’m digging Argentina, got some more class and dignity. Colombia is savage in many ways. As far as women, there are different rules for us in Colombia. The stuff they pull with gringos, they wouldn’t dare with their own men. We kinda learned from Wes about this but he found more of a top notcher, which is unfortunate that it didn’t work out. Good video!
It is a different situation for this RU-vidr because he already learned the local language in Colombia and the visa situation is easier in Colombia for foreigners. In Southeast Asia, he has no advantage because he does not speak Thai or Vietnamese and the visa situation for his age will require him to fork out a significant amount of money to the Thai government. In other words, there is no advantage to live in Thailand or Vietnam for him. There is also concerns of air quality issue in Thailand and Vietnam. I believe that South America is a better choice for someone who wants a long term living experience. Finally, No country is perfect. You just have to find a place that fits you better.
@@aniwee17 There are tons of advantages to live in SEA over Colombia. Safety being the biggest issue. I would rather work harder and earn more money to work out a long term thing in Asia so that I can live safely than an easier long term stay option but in a much more dangerous country. Also, you don't need to learn the local language in Thailand nor Vietnam...plenty of locals understand basic English. I know cause I lived in the SEA for about 3 years total.
@@aniwee17you have things backwards. In Southeast Asia they value English. In South America they don’t even care about us, they just want our currency. And they will rob you for it if they get a good chance
There is one thing I need to correct: the most popular religion in Vietnam is not Buddhism. The Vietnamese people are mostly either atheists or follow the folk religions, which are the traditional beliefs of Vietnamese people for thousands of years.
Ok, I lived in both. Everyone is saying columbia, but I found Vietnam to be drastically cheaper. Stayed at a hostel in both while teaching English. In Vietnam my hostel was $1, meals were $1. In medellin Columbia I’m currently paying $300 a month for my hostel. Meals are around $6
I prefer Colombia because I am Colombian, but it is unsafe like hell. I feel nervous in my own country to be honest. Sad but true that is why I prefer the Phillippines
Being Asian who had visited those countries before, I would only pick SE Asia over Colombia if I have a big concern with safety or if I speak their local language, fam ties etc. First the weather is not idea for a lot of outdoor activities… forget cycling. Food is way better especially for my Asian taste buds but it’s not sustainable to eat out consuming tons of MSG in the long run. Access to high quality food to cook at home is not as easy as Colombia. Third, unlike other East Asian women, viets are not shy to dress sexy and show their femininity, but it’s a long stretch if you are trying to compare them to Colombian. Typically, you’ll enjoy Latin women more in bed and won’t hesitate to show their affection. Try that to your viet gf in public.. another thing Latin women look a lot better whether they are tanned or not, viet women would pay to stay lightskinned which I am not a big fan of.
@@hegemondtm THe FDA also iin the 60's said smoking was healthy, and suggest eating 60% of our diets to be carbs and sugars which is also false Pick better sources
Very informative video. However, you forgot to talk about the weather. Tho I think it might be similar cs both have tropical weather. Colombia has more variety.
Love the journey! Big question bro! I’ve been looking to move to Vietnam. What do you do to supplement your income traveling between countries, besides your course sales.
Super work on this one Wes, vivid, colorful, well presented, and accurate. I'm puzzled why many Asians are so slow to clean restaurant bathrooms when their lives are very much in order in many other ways. Asian restaurants in my US city often get cited for health code violations. Also I think you are too kind to Colombian food as a whole, while there's nothing "good" about their street food. That's unless someone loves bland hot dogs and fries. Food though of course is a matter of tastes that can vary.
8:03 I'm sorry to say I completely disagree about food. Colombia is extremely repetitive, bland, cooked badly and it is a common complaint amongst all types of foreigners. Vietnamese though is amazing! Tasty, fresh, healthy and very diverse. Here now and love it! (Lived in Colombia for 1 year too). Other points are spot on! Well said
@@WheresWes By coastal do you mean Mote de queso? Arroz de coco made with coca cola and sugar? Or all the deep friend fsh, deep fried plantan, ceviche with ketchup? Sorry, there are some nice things but overall not very good. There is much better food in Chocó and in San Andrés.
Wdy ask? Whats your opinion about Myanmar? I went there in '18 and found the people the most honest and humble people I've come across in the 50 countries that I've been to.
@@MsSjaakvaak Havent been there yet just curious since it's next to thailand which I liked visiting alot. Similar size and population as thailand vietnam etc a bit mysterious in comparison lol not as much videos about it. Had some burmese restaurant food in bangkok, definitely better than thai+viet cuisine imo.
Wes I have another concern/CON about Colombia if you get residency and live there full time I hear Colombia isn’t tax friendly. If you’re collecting social security or investment income from the USA does Colombia want their cut if you’re living there full time! Did you hear of expats or full time residents paying taxes in Colombia? 🇨🇴
i actually do not know much about that, I would contact a lawyer. My Colombian income fell under the required guidelines to report for taxes, and all my youtube stuff is from US.
@@robertmiur2388 For the whole calendar year? Colombia would be so much fun, and amazing experience! I just don’t want to owe them thousands of dollars for living there. 😁
@@christopherhouse7937 you won't there's loads of ways around it..if you don't have loads of properties in Colombia or money going into a Colombia bank account you probably won't pay anything
Here is way to reduce your chances of death or robbery by nearly 90%. Don't live in el poblado or laureles. According to el colombiano ( translated from spanish ) "The preferred areas for these tourists are in the communes of Laureles-Set and El Poblado, which is why in most cases the thefts and deaths of these foreigners occur in these two areas, ..."
Colombia is not more "westernized" Colombia IS A WESTERN country. Founded by the Spanish, speaking a European language, a lot of European ancestry and society based on Christianity, Roman law and the French revolution. It's quite obvious is a western society.
Think you should go for an Asian women. Top pick for me will always be Filipinas they are very loyal, devoted to their husband and the family. they really do make amazing wives, a bonus you do not have to know the language at first to get a quality woman. where as in other countries typically if she speaks English its not a great sign.
@WheresWes I see Filipinas are flexible, and they are willing to do what you desire and be in the country you are. But they are very family oriented and do get homesick. I've some Filipinas after coming to the USA they ask their husband to go back. So if it might be difficult to find one that wants what you want.
