Hello Dr. Bolin, I'd just like to help you on Constipation and Obstipation. Constipation is infrequent and/or difficult bowel movement. Frequency may be defined differently per book but it's usually less than three times a week. Obstipation is severe constipation where neither fecal material nor gas can be passed by the patient. For Toxic Megacolon corticosteroids may be indicated to suppress the inflammatory reaction in the colon if megacolon has resulted from active inflammatory bowel disease (Wikipedia).
