A brilliant choice for an honorary Colonel. This gentleman is inspirational!
@dynamo1796
@dynamo1796 2 месяца назад
What makes Col. Grylls such a great choice - you can hear it in this video. He can connect with the young soldiers coming through by sharing his life and his adventures while also acknowledging that the world is very different now to the one he came up in. Back in his day, things weren't as immediate, as online, as unforgiving as they are today. Its a whole different ballgame for these young men and women but Col. Grylls can see that, he can see the potential in these young people and he wants them to succeed and to believe in their future and their country. We need more people like him. So many people his age are full of disdain for the youth of today - they don't understand them, they don't understand the world of technology they're surrounded by and they often feel resentment at the future changing so quickly, and so they fall back on what they remember and whats comfortable and then look for the gap between than and what they see (but do not understand) today. Col. Grylls isn't like that, and that's why he's such a natural leader and the men and women under him at the college will no doubt feel trust and respect from him and towards him.

His fall at 16,000 feet is one of the highest falls anybody has survived without an opened parachute. (1994-1997, served in the Territorial Army then parted ways with the SAS due to an accident doing free fall parachuting - his parachute didn't open, and he broke three vertebrae in the process) ...In 2004 was awarded the honorary rank of lieutenant commander in the Royal Naval Reserve. In 2013 he was awarded the honorary rank of lieutenant colonel in the Royal Marines Reserve

I at 19 was humbled by my Reservist Military Service. I egotistically expected it to be easy, and thought I would be the Top Recruit... Then reality set in ... and I finished in the middle to lower ratings. The forced march at the end was diabolically hard... As it should be...! I think most young people need to go through something similar to expose them to the realities of the World. I am thankful for my experience.

GOOD FOR HIM! There is a certain sadness when you've been medical'd out of the military... a sense of 'I had more to do' with that part of one's life. I'm glad that Grylls is being welcomed back into the fold. Let me also say to the graduating soldiers: Welcome to the Brotherhood. No matter where you go and what you do in your future life, there will always be a piece of you that is 'ARMY'. Enjoy the feeling and take pride in your work. A sincere and respectful tip of the Stetson from an old US Army cavalryman and 'cousin' from across the Pond.

American here so forgive me for not knowing a bunch about this. From my brief research it’s similar to the US military’s split ops for high school kids who are 17 to go through training during their summer break and return back to school to finish their last year and THEN do their job training. From what I saw the British military takes kids as young as 15 who would then transfer to the adult units at 17. Do they resume their education at like a military school or after their whole training return to their school and drill as a reservist? If the US allowed something like this I’d have done it, did Civil Air Patrol and it made me so much better physically and mentally. CAP really only prepared you for customs and courtesies and drill really, but this program seems to actually let you be a soldier so when you turn 17/18 you’re already 2-3 years experienced in your role instead of essentially LARPing lol. It definitely works for the UK seeing how the military size isn’t as large as it was before so it needs younger members to be prepared instead of waiting for 17/18 year olds to join and have no experience yet. Good job for these boys and hope many of them have a great career.
