I never got to work with The Gurkhas in my day, but the kiwis are some of the best field soldiers I've ever seen. The Gurkhas definitely seem to share the same spirit as Ngāti Tūmatauenga. I hope they enjoy their time with RNZINF as much as I did.

The fact that the British Empire fielded BOTH of these units during the old days Imagine being a German solider in WW1 and hearing the Haka from one trench and the Gurkha war cry from the other you would be s*itting your pants

The germans feared the Maoris cause the won't die and had fearce fighting capability. Erwin Rommel once said "Give me a battalion of Maori soldiers and I will rule the world" The Japanese feared the gurkas cause they fought and used unexpected techniques that the Japanese couldn't use. Lachhiman Gurung fought with 2 others against 200 Japanese soldiers his fellow soldiers were injured and couldn't fight Lachhiman had lost all his fingers on his right hand and held the line with one arm and dared the Japanese to fight him. "Come and fight a Gurkha"

My dad said the Germans were afraid of the Kukris and the Canadians were told not to wear confiscated German boots as the Nepalese were active when the Germans slept.

Both ceremonies are very impressive. As being an European I am very curious about the translation of both. Probably native or (very) old language. It's for sure no English😉

Okay, so there's a huge difference between these two units. New Zealand defence force are regular white and Pacific men from NZ. Their training ain't all that and from lads I've met many were disillusioned especially as combat operations were few not to mention the fact the Army is very badly funded and basically as NZDF itself says , defence roles and humanitarian missions their primary roles. Not their fault to be fair. The Haka is not and never was created or founded by the white New Zealander especially as the NZDF is actually a unit of the British crown. This in itself is conflicting. Where as the Gurkha is specially selected and trained initially in Nepal and then onto England to be posted stationed anywhere in the world. Many fail initially and try try again to be in the corps as pride and representation is everything to young Nepalese men. They are also a fully capable combat unit with many battle honours to show. Experience wise, professionally and discipline wise you can not even begin to compare NZDF to Gurkhas. All war crys out the way,it is what it is.

You cant compare nz army to gurkhas mate . Nz army have hardly been in conflicts they are under funded lack of equipment etc and most operations is emergency management peace keeping .gurkhas history in iraq Afghanistan is .gurkhas are a real fighting force only nz SAS is on par ... Nz army though is not the dame level as gurkhas .these gurkhas have carved a fearsome reputation against taliban and in iraq there discipline fitness etc is another level ...

My money is on the Gurkhas
