I really appreciate Mr. Goshu's effort to put the realities and convince the committee thought they have not taken it. I would also read from the face of the committee members that the government of the USA had been strongly involved in the facilitation of the secession of Eritrea. Would they be happy now when they see over 300,000 people lost their lives in that unjustifiable war? would those involved in the separation be proud to see families get apart for decades? I don't still see the demarcation/identification between the people of Eritrea and Ethiopia. Politically motivated & ethnically affiliated blind groups always do historical mistakes.
Where is Colonel Goshu Wolde now? This man is amazing. My mother worked for him when he was the Minsitry of Education. She admired him a lot and even I grew up with a quote that she used at home more often ... "Yasazinal Alu Goshu Wolde" ... of course I was little but now I know what she meant by that all the time when she finds something outrageous. I just love his patriotic heart felt speech and love knowing that Ethiopia had people like him who knew the meaning of democracy 20 years ago.
I had a privilege meeting this outstanding Ethiopian in person in Toronto the early 90s when he was chosen to lead the newly formed political group called COEDF (Coalition Of Ethiopian Democratic Forces). I was a high school student at the time and energized by his patriotic and a rousing speech about the political situation of Ethiopia, so we formed a youth group under his umbrella. He had the vision what will happened to the country he loved dearly if the newly appointed TPLF continue to rule.
I remember Mr Goshu being interviewed by voice of America as to why he left Ethiopia during the socialist government? and he answered, “ l left because of wounds of my consciousness.” I also remember Mr Goshu sitting side by side at Ethiopian Pentecostal church at Washington DC church lead by Pastor Danial Mekonen, sadly he also lost his wife due to cancer, and he was deeply saddened.Mr Goshu is not only intelligent but also a good man. ❤❤❤❤
Yes you are right, Eritrea has been part of Abyssinia ( in fact one of the core part of it more than many Amharic provinces), the line was broken when Menelike on Adewa war decided to desert Eritrea saying you are not part of Abyssinia let Italians do what ever they like so that he can be put end to the Tigrinine/Tigrina rivalry of Abyssinia throne. We forget it, after the Italians gone we decide to join Ethiopia with majority favor union with Ethiopia believing that we are all habesha our history was same and we are all brothers in blood, you know what they get extortion of every industry that Italians left to Adis-Abba and ruthless killing if they say something, and you know what Conel Geshu and his friend Mengestu used to say "we need Eritrean land not its people", men by the name brothers you cheated us twice , then at last we felt enough there will be no more again. If you call this traitors well trust me we are not some Oromo, or Afar you can play with forever.
Surely a great and historical speech but sadly Col. Goshu had minimal understanding of the Eritrean people, our aspirations, and the elements that drove us to fight for our independence .
Amazing man! Ethiopia had a genius like him. The US used to support Eritrea's withdrawal from Ethiopia, but for the last 20+ years, the US has isolated Eritrea from the rest of the world. Have you seen the truth? He said all the upcoming things clearly. Col. Ghoshu seemed to be a fortune teller.

Mr. Haile: I am lucky to see the free Eritrea after 23 years of independence. I asked myself why God is punishing these people? I saw the other part, Ethiopia a year ago. Well by far incomparable. One thing I assure you is that, both countries are a police state. But achieving a minimum need to survive, Eritreans are suffering a lot. I have no words except sorrow. I pause here and ask you one question: What is independence? Suffering? Hunger? If you ask me a solution, I tell you to pray.
When we speek about unity ,not for Ethiopians only,greatly for Eritirians. We are feeling sad about our people death on Meditranian sea,Lampadusa to scape dictators at thier own home land. Both people must reconsidered the past to stay in good at thier home. We need a man like Col. Goshu who can solve and lead Us to this end. Goshu Woldie either doesn't know the Eritrean people or he was on denial . The Eritrean people have to be recognized that they are to determined and therefore paid a very expensive price. Most Ethiopians I came across don't recognize or understand how much we love our country and wanted. Shaebia didn't force Eritreans to fight for independence but facilitated rather. Through history we learnt that Ethiopians have always been keen to have port but none of them thought our welfare.
While I was in Law School AAU, it was common to hear about this brilliant mind, Goshu Wolde, for scoring the least grade of only a single B alone (all A's and charges) in his 5 Years study. Mother Ethiopia, cursed to lose.

It is tragic that eritrea went on to be independent without due debate at least by their own intellectuals - and the consequence of their choice has become tragic with eritrea, home to six million, becoming the world' largest producer of refugees. So, even if your concern was understandable, just like many of us during those period of early 1990s, what has happened so far is indeed sound with Ethiopia. We have now peace for the first time in a long period of time, tremendouce economic development - unseen in ethiopian history before (may be during the axumites?), and one of Africa's powerful army that is extending stability to almost everywhere in africa - ruwanda, brundi, siera leone, the sudans, liberia..etc as for eritrea, current situations are proof that they need Ethiopia more than Ethiopia needs them. so it is upto them to upon up for anything - but peacefully. I hear now that you have joined the service in the protestant world, leaving politics aside, and good luck with that - as may be this is the best area you can deliver more.

This guy seems educated, but he denied the self determination of Eritrean people. No one presented the freedom for Eritrean people, but they fought for it. Eritrean government system yet has a lot of things to modify, but for whatever he has done so far in the last 30 years he is still better than Mengistu.
