Designer Brooke Butler helped her empty-nester clients transform their family home into a forever home by opening up the space and refreshing the overall palette. The kitchen was given a facelift with custom millwork, open shelving and a stunning porcelain backsplash. A small extension was added to the dining room to better receive guests and a cold, forgotten sun room was transformed into an airy home office overlooking the yard.

What a dream home. Wow. I am just in love with all white interiors and clean understated decor. It's not necessarily minimalist but the lines are sleek and spaces aren't overly cluttered with items and nicknacks. I also really appreciate how the spaces flow into one another like there's an overall story to the design. Really love this one!

Can I make a suggestion don’t get me wrong the house is stunning but the tv over fire place you could have put one of them picture TVs there it would look so much better and aesthetically pleasing to the look of living room just an observation 😊💛💛

Having lived in an open-floorplan apartment, my very complain is the smell and heat from the kitchen spreading throughout the living space. I find that the separation of at least the kitchen from the rest of the house is necessary. This video got that.

I'm agree with you especially I'm from Indonesia with a lot of those spicy i could imagine when I cooking my beef rendang 😂😂 the whole house will be full of oil and the smell of spices.

Outside is lovely, inside is rather bland. Best improvement is definitely the sunroom. Also why are there no doors anywhere? Great that it's not just all one large open room. But the option to shut spaces is still necessary- for privacy, noice insulation even to reduce energy waste.

@@UnseenSpirit of course it's from my perspective, all youtube comments that focus on how something looks a certain way are subjective. I would indeed hope that the neutral palette was dictated by the clients, I actually assumed that it was. But I still don't understand the lack of doors from a logical point of view. But that's an issue I have with completely open layouts in general where everything just flows into each other.

@@vmpapillon8984 well interior designers ask their clients what kind of colours and styling they want. That's their job to find out what is asked, and to create a design for them. As for a lack of doors, not everyone wants them. I had 3 rooms downstairs and then a kitchen. We got the chimney breasts and 2 walls knocked down for an open plan and more space. We lost doors and are extremely happy with the flow of the space. We don't care about the cost of heating because the difference is not something to worry about. The light from a lack of walls and doors makes us happier. As for privacy, how often are doors actually needed to be closed unless it's a bathroom or bedroom?

@@UnseenSpirit maybe it's a size issue? I.e. when one has a rather large home - which to me seems to be a North American standard ? Then there is enough space on another level/ floor for children to have friends over and make noise, people working from home in separate spaces with closed doors etc. ?

Hallways sometimes are useful (to separate public and private space for example) but usually I find them to be a waste of square footage and feel like a no mans land. All for removing them and expanding living spaces whenever it is functional to do so.

I wonder how much this cost. They had to bump the dining room wall out. Move the staircase. Move the chimney vent. Insulate and dry wall the sun room. Remove the chimney. Must be in the 6 digits?

True but moving isn't cheap either. I don't know how tax works outside the UK but I'll bet there's some sort of tax take when you move, plus all the various charges like lawyers and mortgage-arrangement fees, plus the hassle of moving. If they were downsizing it might have been worth it but if they wanted a large home, renovating was probably the more affordable option.

This is beautiful!!! When I see books on the counter I always cringe because the counters are for prepping and liquid spill and water splashes. But for the sake of staging they look elegant.

I don't get painting the whole house white. I guess it's the trend . It seems it erase the character of the house . It's like an apartment painted in cheap white paint. I will still go for white but it will have different shades of white esp. along the trim. It seems every designer now their big renovation trick is to paint the whole house white . If you watch top designers and artist how they decorate their house , it's not all white but usually some bold colors mostly dark colors . I think that's how you can tell a real designer from the amateur. They can make the place work with rich deep color . And it actually give the place a more sense of sophistication and class. I'm not a designer but I can see the difference .

Agreed, and she completely destroyed the Colonial exterior. Looks like a Joanna Gaines house. In 10 yrs, modern farmhouse will be completely dated, while classic colonial style will still be timeless. I don’t know why I even clicked on H and H, they always do white boxes. House and Garden UK and other UK based design firms are worlds away in terms of quality, craftsmanship, timelessness, and elegance.

It a worthy redesign, I would have to bring some warmth into the interior with at least a trio of light/neutral color "3 whites" a whipped cream, taupe based white, and the pure white for detail and trim, or son peach based cream, with some greens in a white wallpaper. It just get that "primer feel" with son much stark white everywhere. Textured paint giving a linen paper stock feel, or a faux suede feel. A bit of warmth and defining of elegance, with a white trio pallet. Just my perspective. I'm sure the owners are enjoying their update. Best Wellbeing ...

Home should look cozy and must have some colours. It is just looking like an office more than a home. There is no privacy in the whole space. Everything is too obvious to all the comers. It is not practical at all coz it needs tonnes of working to keep the all open space clean and well organized all the time.

Really nice remodel. I would have loved to have seen the flow of the counter top in the powder room I was curious about the counter going over the toilet. I’m guessing it was creating symmetry with the mirror. I was wondering why in the kitchen the open shelf over to the right of the hood vent was not continued. I liked the idea of the textured light fixture in the dining area but I didn’t like the color. The sun room was so bright and pretty but I felt it seemed a bit stuffed with furniture. The mud room was really cute and clever what you did with the small built in cabinet & the new closet under the stair case & the hidden elements behind the bulk head. Great job, I know I notice a lot 😳
