I colored the first ones with yellow and named them after myself and my cousins. It was kind of sad to see us make the last stand against the baron's army as they swarmed our position, I couldn't see the names so I just assume I survived and my cousins all perished😊
Meanwhile me, makes each retinue special and name them after all my friends (even ones I don't like). Gave them each unique colors, outfits and naming them based from the randomly generated characteristics. Then proceed to make a story for each one as they fight and die bravely for my great kingdom! When they do die I put up a shrine for each fallen brother on that battlefield where they lay as I build the city around them. They shall never be forgotten.
Thats a good idea. I prefer coloring them half in my main color and half in their region's color. Like yellow right sleeve for my color and green left sleeve for the main farming region for example, or yellow and blue for the biggest (capital) town, etc. I can see during a march or a battle which region's retinue is where and I know which unit is more experienced
I love how this dudes entire Manor Lords series of shorts is just him re inventing and figuring out why the medieval ages did it, and acting like he came up with it.
I color them based on My Banner (Red Background - Red armor and shield base, White stripe in the center - White secondary armor/shield color, and Yellow/gold coins - if they have the yellow hood I use that helmet option or occasionally have red/yellow shields instead Makes it seem like more of a professional uniform imo
I mean this is pretty pointless since they are all sharing one unit and experience. Individual Retinue troops, apart from the plate armour upgrade, don't rank up in experience. They gain experience as a unit.
Your basic manor building can house up to 12 retainers. If you go into the Castle Planner when selecting the manor, and also build a "Garrison Tower" extension, your retinue can be increased to 24 retainers. Every single region in the game can house 1 manor and thus up to 24 retainers. By the time you fight the baron for his last territory, you can have 7 x 24 retainers at maximum, if you built a manor in every region and upgraded it with a garrison tower. You get to hire new retainers and upgrade their armor by selecting the retinue from the military menu and using the "customize retinue" brush icon to get into the customization menu that is showcased in this video here.
