If you like Annie, I think you'll enjoy this video I made about her. I had to break it up since youtube kept flagging it for adult material because it spoke about drug use, but here it is in sections :) ru-vid.com/group/PLXz92QgvMMqfB-FpaJmx8AfEwsrt_bm7b&si=sls3SBplMoV7WfOE

Whose color grading at 4:05 do you think fits better with the cover?
@the.walking_V-flat
@the.walking_V-flat 11 месяцев назад
she wanted to accentuate the subtle beauty of her face, also her chic skin and interesting contrasting texture of the dress, the double complementary colors were used beautifully in the photos, the things that should stand out, do... in your edit, the grass under her face looks kinda rotten, like its gonna eat her, too ... theres much more subtle art in the photographs that masters like Annie do, its communication of beauty through light, color and shapes...you cant possibly think that you edited the photo better than the woman whos been on top of the industry for 40 years, and who actually met the model, and felt and saw her presence in person, on that set. this isnt stock photography, it is a work of a master conceptual artist

@@the.walking_V-flat Hi and thank you for you comment, but I was asking which edit is more harmonious with the cover from the shoot. Years in the industry does not make you impervious to mistakes, which in her case has often presented itself in too many limbs (Oprah with 3 hands, Reece with 3 legs on the cover of Vanity Fair.) If you are a fan of Annie's, I think you will enjoy this video more, here is part 1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U2bVrjGYBGc.html Have a nice day!

@@THEMODELGENE my favorite photo is a black and white portrait of Miles Davis. I get your point but in my opinion you should know how to comply with the rules of the box but also knowing how to get out of the box even if you don’t comply with the trends or what ever is “right” for other photographers/artists/critics
@THEMODELGENE
@THEMODELGENE Год назад
@@misaelnevarez9447 I love that period of her work as well. If you haven’t seen the documentary I’ve done on her, I think you’ll enjoy it, here is part 1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U2bVrjGYBGc.html I’m sure by the end of it you’ll see I’m a big fan of hers but I think even the greatest photographers should be looked at critically, perhaps even more so since they had more time to develop.

Annie Leibovitz could also be color-blind to some degree.
@THEMODELGENE
@THEMODELGENE 22 дня назад
Hahah color blindness is very rare in women, I think she was more interested in establishing a visual signature that makes her photos easily identifiable rather than good
@dradlebob
@dradlebob Год назад
The high saturation of Annie’s photos cheapens the images so much makes them appear far too unnatural
@THEMODELGENE
@THEMODELGENE Год назад
I agree, I don’t understand why she does it
@chibuzonweze3291
@chibuzonweze3291 Год назад
I think thats actually the point. If you look at her creative shoots she doesnt push for realism most times, the teal moody grade also gives her a kind of trademark look. 9/10 times you can tell its a photo from her by the grade
@THEMODELGENE
@THEMODELGENE Год назад
@@chibuzonweze3291 at rolling stone, she cultivated her own lane of portraiture that was smart and creative. Clients like GAP and AMEX allowed her freedom and the work was beautiful. Her work is super recognizable today but it doesn’t feel authentic or timeless. Tim Walker is a master of fantastical surreal concepts but they feel grounded.

FYI Mert is pronounced "Matt"

Of course, I know that is the Turkish pronunciation but at interviews and even when being awarded, the English pronunciation is used. I can relate, Marko is pronounced differently in every country I’ve lived :)

@@THEMODELGENE Oh, I'm just going off what everyone I've been around who've worked with them (assistants, hair & makeup, etc) say. But I'm sure if your name is spelled Mert basically everyone you meet is going to say Mert and you're just going to live with it :)

@@THEMODELGENE They're brilliant at what they do, but I feel like what they do is kind of not really in fashion right now. Things are often cyclical, but to me it feels like people have tried to move away from images feeling too "lit" and "airbrushed" towards a more low-key natural aesthetic using daylight and such. We've seen a return to shooting with film. You know, Jamie Hawkesworth, etc. I suppose people will get bored of that at some stage and maybe we'll see a shift back to glossier studio work. Who knows.. Would be interested to hear your take.

Not a fan of people putting down other people work! Annie is an icon was doing thing with a camera before you were shaving. Comparing your work on one image when she had done a life time different looks is very bold of you.

Thanks for your comment, but my channel involves critiquing fashion photography, regardless of the photographer's fame and reputation. I am a huge fan of Annie, but I do not like the color grading and overall look of much of the recent work. If you like Annie's work, I think you will enjoy this overview I've done of her career ( ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xxx9lWUA3J8.html )

It a mark of a bad and egotistical Photographer to put down someone else's work. Do better dude
@THEMODELGENE

Hi Matthew, thanks for your comment, but critiques are part of any academic experience in the arts, they are not a personal attack on the artist. I'm a big fan of Leibovitz, even if I dislike a lot of her color grading. Annie's harshest critic was Susan Sontag, her partner for years, and that period produced some of her most beautiful work. If you'd like to learn more about Leibovitz, I think you'd enjoy this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xxx9lWUA3J8.html
