Final Cut Pro 10.4 update welcomed some new features, including a set of robust color correction tools. Besides the standard color board available in previous versions, Final Cut Pro now lets you color correct with color wheels and color curves. This video focuses on color correction using color wheels. We’ll go through an entire basic color correction workflow, starting with correcting exposure, moving onto saturation and finishing with setting a proper white balance. We’ll use video scopes to help, including the luma waveform and RGB parade.

So helpful Serge! An excellent explanation of the color wheels. I'm a longtime Lightroom user but FCPX color adjustments were throwing me off. Now the color wheels make more sense to me than the color board. From now on its the color wheel default setting for me.

I prefer color curves and occasionally the sliders, located below the wheels, for adjusting exposure and color balance.

Hi! :) Im just learning and from what I saw was the reds too much as well? because I saw it was a lot higher than the blue and green. Is the goal to make the rob a straight line sorta? I was waiting for you too bring the reds down to make it in line with the rest. How come you choose to leave that one? Thank You!! :)

If your RGB levels are the same you have white, or a shade of grey. For any other colour, the levels will be different. I always go off how the image looks, then use waveforms to confirm it. hey Serge, nice video as always. Do you think that the final version you made is a bit orange(ish) because you pulled to the opposite of blue (increased red+green)? This is my general issue; when one of the main colors is dominant it is really difficult to reach to a natural balanced look, especially when you have another main color that has a higher dynamic range, like the reds in your clip. Any thoughts around this? thanks!

You may want to look into color curves, and hue vs saturation curves. They let you make much more precise adjustments. I’ll try and make a video about it in the future. But if you need help right now, check out Ripple Training. They explain it very well

3:24 Ive tried doing this to set Color Wheels as default (And it shows it is so in preferences correctly) but when I use ALT COMMA or drag Color Board effect onto the clip it still goes to Color Board NOT Color Wheels. Any idea?

Just use the color correction effect from the inspector window
