I hiked Humboldt Peak in June 2019 from the lower trailhead at South Colony Lakes (standard route) with my dog Juno.

So many focus on the destination and not the journey. You had the stones to get after it and the brains and humility to recognize and accept that that day was not the day. As the saying goes, "the mountain will be still be there tomorrow." Great job, brother.

I appreciate your honesty about how crappy you felt, and also when you bail out without reaching the goal of the peak. It' shows for the rest of us mere mortals that it's ok to turn around when the weather is threatening, or you're just feeling off. Better to walk out rather than be carried out!

Good to present this action . The north face of Humbolt is a 4th / low 5th class series of ledges and very different . The best view of serious mountains from an easy class 2 hike

I have followed your channel for a while now and really appreciate what you do. We live in the Southeast and hike a lot on the AT, BMK...... anyway when we go out west I'll be referring back to your videos. Keep it up man, your work is greatly appreciated.

Die for your art! JK. No, don't die. Selfie stick, dog leash, GPS; your dedication to documentation, not just climbing is admirable. And I can relate to your joy at finding the trail 9:11.

Humboldt is stark - like a giant football half buried. Strange view, like the Rockies end there, nothing higher to the east.

Thanks for posting this! Did the East ridge last May and it was amazing. If the West ridge is snow-free like you say it is I may have to try this next week as a season-opener.

Derek Gless 100% snow free - video shows basically the whole route up, you should have no prob

Thanks for posting, I'm heading up Sunday. Rematch from January where I ran into 6 feet of powder making the east ridge impassable

Me and the pup are both at 12 for our first season. With one class 3 in the bag. So far I’m the only one with any paw or leg injuries on trail.

I took an awesome nap just above the saddle on that mountain once. Every time I opened my eyes the crestones occupied my entire vision. It was something else. By the way, where's your first aid kit??

Thanks for another great video! Very valuable info since I'll be heading up to the lakes on Thursday afternoon and summiting Friday. How are the campsites at the lower lakes? Also, how viable are the standard routes up the crestones? Havent heard anything recently and I know conditions are changing quickly. I'll have spikes and my axe.
@TheVirtualsherpa
@TheVirtualsherpa 5 лет назад
Matt Agnew honestly camping around the lakes right now is probably going to be really wet so I’d bring a tarp for the bottom. I’m not sure about standard routes up Crestones but from the looks of broken hand you would 100% need crampons for a couple more weeks.

Most are "maintained" by the county they are in. With heavy snowmelt and high use, hard to keep up with the usage.

I’d like to be the downer on your video and offer that if you’re going to post guide videos for 14ers, it would be great to model full backcountry ethics. You mentioned pack it in, pack it out but then you talked about being off trail like it was no big deal. With more and more coastals moving in every year and flooding these mountains with users, severe trail braiding/erosion could be a worse outcome than the litter you talked about. Other than that, nice video!

@kylegalcorn
@kylegalcorn 3 года назад
@@ertatta a monolingual, xenophobic type. Very American of you. My name’s not written in Russian by the way. If you don’t like my comment and don’t have anything substantive to say why not just move along. I added my comment in the hope that someone who isn’t aware of trail braiding and doesn’t know the importance of staying on trail might read it and understand that not always staying on trail (especially on mountains as popular as 14ers) can and does lead to whole routes being shut down for restoration and construction.
