The Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route (COBDR), created by ADV motorcyclists, runs 675 miles from the Wyoming border, across Colorado to Four Corners. Crossing a wide variety of terrain, the COBDR challenges the traveler with mostly unpaved roads, some rugged trails, sandy stretches, multiple water crossings and high mountain passes. The views are plentiful and dramatic, though the weather may add to the drama. Four friends from Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma and Colorado accepted the challenge of this incredible route in their overlanding rigs. Meeting just across the border in Baggs, Wyoming, we headed out intent on completing as much of the route as possible in six full days of travel. The day 1 video covers the trip from Baggs to a dispersed campsite in Routt National Forest near Yampa, Colorado.
The music is "Starburst Dreams" by DanO. It is used under license.

Excited for this one. I just spent 3 weeks in colorado... It opened up a lot of possibilities. Definitely want to do some off road trails next time up.

It's a really beautiful state. A bit overcrowded in some popular places, though.

Thanks for sharing this journey. Not sure if the rattler in the road at the start was a warning for the road ahead or just trying to say; Keep your Eye's Open, for what's ahead. Looking forward to where you guys take us next.

We hadn't even drove the COBDR two miles when we bumped into him. It was pretty cool to get some video of him.

That was a funny comment of : Dude I'm just trying to get a tan man, @@DxDOverland . Good to see these vids. Wondering if y'all were able to do this ride before or after the major rains & mudslides.

@@tpseeker3367 During. The last three days we had major thunderstorms every night. Plenty of video will show that, and how they ultimately affected our travels.

Should we get some waders ready @@DxDOverland? Yeah that's one thing people forget to do is check weather reports, then again mother nature sure does loving throwing curve balls when we least expect it

We were forecast for three days of rain before trip. I advised the crew to prepare for cool, hot and wet. We jus had no idea the wet would be so heavy. Once on the trail, we rarely had cell service. We tried NOAA weather reports, but couldn't receive any stations. An InReach would have really come in handy, though I doubt we would have changed our plans.

Do have have the map files for this trip? Thanks
@DxDOverland
@DxDOverland Год назад
The .gpx file is freely available at this link. ridebdr.com/cobdr/ Strongly recommend carry a detailed Colorado state map like a Gazetteer and the Butler COBDR Motorcycle Map. Recommend buy the Gazetteer direct from Garmin to ensure you get most current edition, and the BDR map from Touratech, a sponsor of the BDR program ... touratech-usa.com/Store/Butler-Motorcycle-Maps-Colorado-Backcountry-Discovery-Route-COBDR

What makes you decide on which Jeep to take on your travels?
@DxDOverland
@DxDOverland 3 года назад
Mostly what I want to eat. Gladiator has no fridge, so I do mostly freeze-dried backpacking foods. Wrangler has a decent galley with fridge, so I can have better meals, cold drinks, etc. Though, because of the hours I spend working photos and videos each day in camp, they're usually very simple meals.

Pay the kings fee to travel through the kings forest
@DxDOverland
@DxDOverland 2 года назад
Indeed. Typically those fees go toward upkeep of facilities, etc, in that area. That's a good thing. My real complaint is sometimes it's difficult for travelers across state lines to know what areas require what fees. I've been through states that even charge fees for certain viewpoints along highways. Signage at the last minute saying you need a permit that is only available online and you have no phone service can be rather frustrating. And right now, there is a lot of conflicting info online about the Colorado access to their state wildlife areas. Most of it says that a hunting or fishing license is required, which is not true since they created the additional access pass. As you can imagine, a Colorado hunting or fishing license for out-of-state travelers is quite expensive. The access pass is more reasonably priced. I do go into this during my studio chat later in this series of videos.
