Bodycam footage from July 25th in Westminster, Colorado captured the tense moments leading up to a police officer fatally shooting 46-year-old Alysha Duran during a traffic stop. According to the Westminster Police Department, the officer approached Duran's vehicle, which was stopped facing oncoming traffic, but Duran refused to answer any of the officer's questions. Tensions escalated when the officer noticed Duran allegedly pulling a gun from her center console. The footage shows the panicked officer yelling "What have you got in there?" before quickly retreating behind Duran's vehicle and firing a single fatal shot through her rear driver's side window.

The shooting has sparked debate, with some claiming the officer acted too hastily without giving Duran a chance to explain herself, while others argue the officer followed proper procedure when faced with an apparent threat. The bullet passed through Duran and struck an uninvolved bystander's vehicle windshield, though no other injuries were reported. The veteran officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation into the incident. The Law&Crime Network's Sierra Gillespie provides an in-depth breakdown analyzing the bodycam footage and discussing the controversial shooting.

He just help a soul take their own life. This could have been prevented at many level. First, who in their right mind would approach a park vehicle in the wrong way; without having to wait for back-ups. Once he spoke to the SUV driver, obviously the woman is delusional and in distressed. That should have been a red flag of sensing a danger of something is wrong. Once he saw a firearm, he immidiately panic and beat feet to the rear of the SUV. He exactly knew where his rounds trajectery would be heading. He immidiately used the rear of the SUV for his own safety, not the Jeep's driver or anybody downrange from him. He didn't want to get hit by incoming cars both direction of traffic. Last resorts, he could have attemted to disarmed the woman at arms reach, but he chose to get an ample amount of distance for engagement of shooting her.

@@POW_RYDER Just because a job involves risk doesn't mean that the worker deserves any less sympathy for having bad things happen. Firefighters are aware of what their job could involve, but it makes complete sense to feel sympathy for one who witnessed someone die in a burning building. For (good) police officers, their job is keeping the public safe and responding to emergencies. They take the burden of that risk so other people don't have to. That doesn't mean they waive their rights to have emotions about what they experience.

This is why body cameras are so important. You could tell this officer was more concerned about figuring out the situation than escalation. There didn't seem to be any unprofessional behavior. He gave the woman plenty of opportunity to explain what's going on without yelling. He seemed to have correctly identified the threat (the gun). It would be difficult for a lawyer to argue that a cop placed a gun on the scene if everyone's on bodycam.

"unloading" is not what you think. You shoot to neutralize the threat. Sometimes that takes a large volume of fire. Do NOT judge, if you have never had to pull the trigger. I do agree with the rest of your comment though. I feel sorry for the Cop and the "subject".

I literally feel so bad for the officer. People don’t realize that it’s actually really selfish to put someone in that unfair position, the weight they carry for another’s actions is messed up. 😔

Pardon me but someone that's truly suicidal has more to worry about than someone else's well being... I'm just saying that's an asinine statement to make
@drebk

@@brandonhinton866 It isn't incorrect, though. Asinine or not. Self-evident, perhaps, but not incorrect. The issue, I suppose, is in calling this behavior "truly suicidal" More accurately, it is homicidal behavior. More accurately still, it is attempting to enlist a hitman. Worse still, an involuntary hitman.

@drebk lmao if she wanted to kill a cop she could have drove to the station and lit em all up. Your statement is flawed at best. This lady was 100% mentally unstable prove me wrong

He was in shock because she was clearly going to force him to kill her and she did just that. She did it an eerily calm manner though and that has to make it so much worse. 3:52 looks like someone to me, who has already made a grave decision and is just waiting for the right moment. edit: oh yeah. Also the round through the Jeep windshield, duh. That was the bit that clearly sent his shock to another level.
