In this episode, I travel from Kremmling, Colorado to the border of New Mexico. Carl and I climb some of the tallest passes on the route, experience a lack of hospitality in Hartsel, hear about some scary bike/car accidents, split ways for a bit, take a rest day in Salida, meet up with my friend Eric for a ride, and more.
If you missed episode 3, where Traci joins me for two weeks, you can see that here: • Traci joins me for 2 w...
If you'd like to see some of the questions I answered prior to my trip, you can see that here: • Frequently Asked Quest...
Thank you to Carl Schoch for providing additional photos and video (and being an excellent riding buddy).

It's so nice to see those images from SoCo. I try not to poke at those memories because it's never easy to let go of them, but that is possibly the most beautiful place on the planet. What a great ride. I'm sorry to hear that you got sick.

Wet burrito with green sauce, nice! So many cool scenes. I think for me, finding places to sleep at seems the biggest challenge on bike touring. Of course, climbing steep hills is tough. I’m looking forward to seeing the next episode. ✌️🇺🇸

Thanks, I still think about that burrito 😋. Yes, it can be stressful when you think you know where you’ll stay and it doesn’t work out. Luckily, that doesn’t happen too often!

,59 is when you passed me, 8 miles before Hendersonville. Had a private tour of Henderson, huge tublers inside with 10# lead balls that crush the stone to get the moly, 2nd largest electric consumer state of Colorado to power tumbler's and conveyor system, prior to they moved the material on tracks, there is the old train type on display. Unfortunately Henderson is very tight security and tours are not for public. The top of ute pass mountain range is the actual Coors beer logo mountain off in distance. Anybody riding I'll be set up warm shower next season better, there is blue cooler at road MM 14.5, green gate, crossed skis decor each side. Ute Pass Steven.

Thanks! I use Ride with GPS to plan my routes and a Wahoo Element Roam bike computer for navigation. I also purchased the ACA Bicycle Route Navigator app as a secondary source of information. It works offline, so it’s a nice tool.

Thank you so much for sharing. I am hoping to do the the ride and noticed you were using a drop bar gravel bike. I have a Surly Disc Trucker and was thinking of adding bigger tires to my bike. To make the bigger tires work I was going to drop my 29" wheel size to 27.5" and get the fastest off road tires that would be good for the terrain. How was the mud and tire clearance on your bike? That is my main concern. Again, inspiring and well edited video. Keep up the good work!!

Have you seen my gear video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nzTYRHFigYw.htmlsi=ds_KDE0MKUVgrtIE I agree you can’t go wrong with larger tires. For clearance, I was definitely pushing the limit, but managed to avoid riding in the mud too much. I did run a narrower tire in the back for more clearance, maybe that’s something you can play with. Exciting that you’re looking to do the ride!!

Enjoyed this video very much! Since you told us about rain during this stage of the ride, I am wondering what rain gear and brand did you use and did you like it? thanks.
@katrinahase
@katrinahase 6 месяцев назад
I had the Shower’s Pass Womens EcoLyte Elite Jacket and Women's Timberline Pant. I liked that they were lightweight and packable. Both were comfortable to ride in and worked well as windbreaker layers as well. And while they did great in short rain showers, they soaked through in long, all day efforts, even in light rain. I’ve heard that their rain resistance is not as good for their “eco” line of products, so I might go the non-eco line if I were to purchase again. I may consider treating them with Nik Wax as well.

@@katrinahase doing the GDMBR in 2024. I have a couple of rain pants but haven't tried them in the rain yet. It was raining this summer while I was riding in Spain but it was so hot, I didn't bother wearing the rain pants. I have a pair of 7 mesh rain pants - very expensive but they feel stiff while riding and they slide on my leather saddle. I want to try something else with better articulation and that don't slide on my leather saddle.

On long stretches, my wrists would get sore, or fall asleep. It was always better when there was a mix of climbing and descending. My shoulders were ok overall.
