@@ericeandcoWhat @comontoshi meant was that National Parks are not the same as National Historic Sites. Independence Hall is a National Historic 👉 Site 👈. Yellowstone is a National 👉 Park 👈. He's 100% correct.
Most kids are not even told about this in our history. I keep thinking that we was way past wrong when i learned of this. Had to pick up a few WW2 book with slides and got to see some pics from the camps when active was so sad.
@xploration1437 Japanese soldiers. For context "comfort women" were sex trafficked or kidnapped girls and women from the war that were abused, killed, and raped by Japanese soldiers. Japan is also guilty of brutal human experimentation aka "Unit 731". It was pretty bad, but it didn't mean all Asians in America were a part of it. The Japanese-American concentration camps were not any better. All those situations resulted in torture and mass murder.
I think some things should be classified differently. Landmarks and memorials should not be considered parks, as the word "park," to me, relates to a place for recreation and activities. I very much support this new landmark.
Yeah I'm Asian have you ever seen what the Japanese did to us in the Philippines good Lord. Putting them in a safe place because of fear of national Safety isn't like anywhere near the torture that the Japanese committed during the wars
German Americans were not put in camps in WW II. Wonder what they did during WW II ….. (Wonder if any of them ever tried to incite fascism during that period. See Rachel Maddow’s series. Or ask Donald Trump’s father. He was at the Madison Square Garden rally. Hmm. Wonder where Donald got all that ….. )
@@SherryKrotzer They were. My grandfather was born in Los Angeles. My grandmother in Denver. They met at Amachi because their families were sent there by their own government. I was born in Los Angeles. I'm 4th generation Japanese AMERICAN. Where were YOUR grandparents born? Were my grandparents less American because they were born with slanty eyes and not white I presume is lily white skin like yours? My mostly Irish husband has Native American ancestry. I suppose he is more "American" than either of us. Your ignorance and racism has no business in this country. The vast majority of us Americans don't like your kind.
Ethnically, I'm primarily Japanese, Chamorro and Filipina. All my grandparents and parents got over a history they didn't enjoy, or didn't even want to participate in. You might want to try it too, Tita/Tito.
Just make sure to give credit where credit is due. After all that park would not be possible without a racist Democrat president like FDR putting Japanese Americans in an, and call it what it was, internment camps. Stop downplaying it by calling it a relocation area.
The random attacks on Democrats and liberals in this comment section make me think that Republicans in Colorado are just a little on edge as they prepare to lose the election. 🗳️
@theurbanthirdhomestead Biden signed an executive order to confiscate 30% of public land by 2030. 50% by 2050, 75% by 2075 and you see the pattern until all lands private and public are held by the government. This is the first steps towards that ambitious goal.
In total disagreement with this decision. A National Historic site?... Yes A National Park?... Not even close... I visit and value my National Parks. All are worthy of being a destination of extraordinary beauty and revitalization of the soul. This is neither. In fact, it draws from a very limited pool dollars shared by the agency, hence reducing funds available to all other Parks. I respect the history, but I will not fly or go out of my way to view an empty field and a signs full of pictures. History... Not beauty....
If someone is triggered by this or "feels bad cuz history", that's a them problem. This is good, it's not "woke" (please define that for me). This comments section is hilarious cuz of how many triggered extremists went off in here. It's a you problem and your taking it out on everyone else. Get therapy.
Correct. All the good stuff was done by the Democrats just look at our country now. I asked my black friends why they all vote Democrat when the Democrats all voted for slavery 100%. They said because the parties flipped hahaha these guys are naive
So these days anything can be a national park?? Back then, national parks mean something unique and beautiful. How does a simple monument in the middle of the prairie constitute a national park?? Make it a historical site!
What? Make it a UNESCO world heritage site. Don’t make it a National Park. That’s not a national park. That’s like saying Auschwitz’s is a national park. How weird
@@prestonarmer277 Are you having difficulty understanding the purpose of the National Park Service? Or do you need help understanding basic American history during WW2?
I can, it was an internment camp for Japanese Americans. After Pearl harbor thousands of American citizens of Japanese descent men women and children were rounded up and forced into prison camps like this one in Colorado until the end of the war. They lost their homes, their businesses, jobs. Another dark chapter in America's history that for some reason people want to forget.
No one will ever be forced to go visit there, but that will never change the historical fact that the government forcibly removed its own citizens and interred them there during World War 2, and it was wrong then, and will always be wrong. A well-informed citizenry is an integral part of a democratic republic.
Acknowledging the history of internment camps (forced imprisonment based on ethnicity) is being "woke"? That makes being woke sound like a good thing then...
Malum In Se/Malum Prohibitum Nothing moral requires authority. Authority is the claim to the exclusive exemption to morality. It is a monopoly on violence. Violence is a violation because it is the initiation of aggression, not self-defense. Offense/defense are ontologically distinct. All crime has a legal equivalent (ie, taxation is extortion). Every government is founded on Ad Baculum. Warren v. District of Columbia Town of Castle Rock v. Gonzales DeShaney v. Winnebago County Lozito v. New York City You are legally compelled via the logical fallacies Ad Populum, Ad Baculum and Ad Verecundiam to pay for protection that they are not legally obligated to provide. That's a mafia. Those who do not perform the cult's rite can never enjoy full social status. Symbols of the castrated member, the tie and bow-tie, are mandatory accoutrements of the political wardrobe and phallic monuments are erected to commemorate the minds conquered long ago. Brute force is no longer necessary. The capitalist priest class of Psychiatry, working in tandem with the State bureaucracy, regulates and polices the new Restriction and gelding of desire. Psychiatrists, along with other legal arbiters, help to obscure justice with grey areas of intentionality, mental state, etc. Some mistake this as a system of Liberty, ignorant of the fact that Psychiatric Control is a cornerstone of the perfected Totalitarian State. All modern illnesses come from the absurd and tragic struggle of man's inability to bridle Nature. This dogma echoes perpetually, omnisciently by understanding voices in self-help books, billboards, radio commercials and television talk shows to convince the public to practice continual self-suppression and hormonal restraint. Any deviation is an indication of something severely wrong with the individual. "Everything is metamorphosed into its opposite to perpetuate itself in its expurgated form. All the powers, all the institutions speak of themselves through denial, in order to attempt, by simulating death, to escape their real death throes. [...] For example: it would be interesting to see whether the repressive apparatus would not react more violently to a simulated holdup than to a real holdup. Because the latter does nothing but disturb the order of things, the right to property, whereas the former attacks the reality principle itself." - Jean Baudrillard (Simulacra & Simulation - 1981) "Our rulers, who rule our symbols, and so rule a symbolic class of life, impose their own infantilism on our instituitions, educational methods, and doctrines. This leads to maladjustment of the incoming generations which, being born into, are forced to develop under the un-natural (for man) semantic conditions imposed on them. In turn, they produce leaders afflicted with the old animalistic limitations. The vicious circle is completed; it results in a general state of human un-sanity, reflected again in our instituitions. And so it goes, on and on." - Alfred Korzybski (Science and Sanity: An Introduction to Non-Aristotelian Systems and General Semantics - 1933) "I am a cosmopolitan." - Diogenes "If I could not be Alexander, I should wish to be Diogenes." - Alexander the Great "A man is no less a slave because he is allowed to choose a new master once in a term of years." - Lysander Spooner (No Treason: Constitution of No Authority - 1867) "It is incredible how as soon as a people become subject, it promptly falls into such complete forgetfulness of its freedom that it can hardly be roused to the point of regaining it, obeying so easily and willingly that one is led to say that this people has not so much lost its liberty as won its enslavement." - Étienne de la Boétie (Discours de la servitude volontaire ou le Contr'un - 1577) "Leadership in government is political power, and political power is an official form of antagonizing the people. Politics are rules imposed upon the people. They have every man in a straight jacket and without a passport he cannot move a toe. In a free world, they violate the natural rights of every citizen.
