Can't wait to see this first hand this coming summer for my birthday. Was so surprised this is one area/part I had chosen to ride, then your video pops up tonight during my planning. Just hope it isn't a rainy one as yours was`sorry. Thank you for sharing, still an amazing ride! 😄

Yes even in the rain it is a great ride. I also have a few other Colorado Ride videos that you may want to check out if you are planning a ride that way. Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to leave a comment!

Your vids bring back so many great memories of my trips out west in the 80's! Now, if my body will let me, I will make it out there again soon. Keep riding, SCFireman

I rode it from the east side the third week of June, 2019. Still a lot of snow on the ground, and I believe it had to be closed again a couple of days later. My profile picture is taken at the summit.

Your pic certainly does show a lot of snow. I rode it in August and it was dry and snow free.

Just watching your video. it looks good. I think the clicking sound is from the GoPro not being tight in its connection, I have had that problem when I forgot to put the white soft rubber clip into the connection. It is always so much more spectacular to see the mountains and passes with some snow on them, really makes me want to do some spring riding! By the way that is a gorgeous color on your 'Wing!

@@RobertMerz My camera is a Sony, but I have suspected the rattling could be that it isn't tight enough inside the case. Thanks for watching it and your input.

Thanks for posting the vid, I enjoyed watching. What time if year were you there? I am planning a trip from Denver to Vegas over 5 days in May, and gathering "must see" places. So far I've seen 3 "highest pave road in the US" : trail ridge road US 34, Mount Evans, and now independence pass! I guess they are all good.

rich l Glad you enjoyed the video, I also have videos on Mt Evans and Trail Ridge Road. We rode through Independence Pass the last week of August, Trail Ridge and Mt. Evans the first week of September. Which one is highest? Mt Evans by nearly 2000', but remember it is not a state highway just a paved road. Here are the elevations: Mt Evans 14,130', Trail Ridge Road 12,183', Independence Pass 12,095. Yes they are all good and worth a ride. Check opening days for them as May is pretty early to ride that high. Independence Pass claims to usually be open just prior to Memorial day weekend.

HI Short comment. Independence Pass may be highest "through" hwy but highest paved road is to Mt Evans in Colo-also a great mc ride
@RobertMerz

You are correct on both counts. And Mt. Evans is a great ride! Check out my video, Mt. Evans. Colorado Motorcycle Trip: Highest Paved Road in North America, Mt. Evans Scenic Byway

***** Hi Robert I live a base of Monarch Pass on US Hwy 50 here in Colo. Both wife and I ride and have ridden extensively for several years-we always say we live in the heart of motorcycle heaven! Thanks for reply and safe riding! Tim

TP Sundgren You are right about living in a great place to be on a motorcycle. We found the hardest part of visiting Colorado on our bike was picking a route, and we did a lot of back and forth as we wandered through your state. We did want to do Highway 50 but at Poncha Springs we continued south to Pagosa Springs as we had appointments to keep in Arizona. So many great highways, so little time. Next time we will try to cover the areas we missed. Keep riding, and be safe yourself!
