The video between 2:27 and 2:44 is one of those situations where one does not know if that train is running on a model railroad.. or if it's real!!! The Colorado Railroad Museum is one awesome place! So much to see and do there... Just not possible to do everything in one day. Thanks Jeff! That cab ride was amazing!
I'm watching this while drinking tea from my Colorado Midland mug that I got at the Colorado Railroad Museum. 491 was actually a standard gauge consolidation. The Rio Grande converted it to narrow guage in the Burnham Shops in Denver due to payment disputes with Baldwin.
The 191 was involved in a very odd acident where one winter around the 20s where the ice was so thick that the loco ran right off the tracks and no one noticed untill the engineer spotted a haystack in front of them.
@@CoalChrome Surprisingly, no. The locomotive was a 2-8-0, which turns into a Heisler for the scene when it runs off the track. It's definitely one of the Marx Bros most underrated movies. I can't find very many clips on RU-vid, but it's well worth a look if you can find the DVD.
Met Bob Richardson a couple times, first at 1995 NNG Convention in King of Prussia, Pa. and second time Tweetsie Railroad Boone, NC....a really neat fella with a passion for all types of railroads!
Great video as always, excellent job Dale and Karyn. It's awesome that you both were able to ride the K27 cab! What I wouldn't give... Nice. Thanks again for allowing me some vicarious experience. You both are the best!
I have the K37 and the C19 in G Gauge both are beautiful locomotives. Back in my steam railroad travels of the west I did pass this museum took some photos this was back around 2000. Rode the D&S and the Georgetown Loop both were awesome. Still got to hit the Navada Northern as well a couple in Northern California and Oregon. Far as that gos black hills central looks pretty awesome too. You like I love the early narrow gauge just something about a narrow gauge. I went to Dollywood in Tennessee they have a couple of beautiful 1947 2-8-0s other than the big butterfly painted on the tender they are absolutely beautiful. All were shipped from Alaska and I was very lucky to get not one cab rides but two. And to hear this locomotive bark pulling up grade out of the park was awesome. I shot video of the whole trip I could care less about going on all the amusement park rides I hung out with the engineer and firemen. Duluth railroad museum is another I will hit I. The next few years they have some nice SOO LINE DSS&A locomotives as well many others. But the Copper Range Baldwin VO1000 will be the focal point only because it Copper Range the first railroad I rode on from Michigans Upper Peninsula. The locomotive no. 29 a 1908 ALCO 2-8-0 was thankfully saved from the torch and brought to North Freedom Wisconsin to the Mid Continent railroad museum. There they have two of the original wooden passenger coaches as well one of the locomotives that pulled them. The copper range was a copper ore hauling railroad and served the many copper mines of Michigan. Since my mom's family all lived and worked underground in hard rock mines going back to 1843 I have a lot of interest in the areas history. Anyhow befor I burn up everyone's computers I'll end here. Sincerly just another railroad history nut lol.
Hi. Yeah there’s so many of those real roads that we wanna get to see you as well. The Cass in West Virginia is high on our list. Also Black Hills and a few others of course. So many railroads! This stupid Covid has really inconvenience to everyone. Never mind killed a lot of people to
Outstanding! Last I saw home videos on this place were a buddies VHS stuff from the early nineties. Cab Ride! Somebody shined down on you both for that. Thank you for sharing this. Made my Sunday. (Shows y'all how exciting things get around here. LOL !) Well done, You. Greg and Jeanne
A great 👍 video on trains 🚂., especially steam locomotives. Your channel is is at the top of my list of my subscriptions, and I do so enjoy 😊 each one. You and Karyn have a great week..
Wonderful video, Dale! It's sure nice to see those locomotives being taken such good care of and running so well. It was interesting to hear that the K37 was too heavy and tearing up the tracks on the Durango & Silverton route, but it makes sense. Have a good one!
There you go you did it again... You posted another fun-filled video you kids are having so much fun you missed out on the Museum how about that... LOL 😁😋... When y'all do get to that Museum I hope you do a long video on it cuz I'd eally love to see it and I physically will never be able to get there. So the only way I'm ever going to see us through the lens your camera.... LOL.. Well again thanks for another great video be blessed...BBE.. 😁😎..
Really enjoyed this one. Jeff seems like a cool dude, have followed him on Instagram forever now, and he’s got some great RU-vid videos. I wonder how he’s doing at Disney these days 🙏🏼
I get things really confused. I’m a very confused person! This is actually a different Jeff and I just got the names mixed up. Anyway this Jeff is still in golden and the other Jeff is in fact at Disneyland!
Hey Dale! Hope you and the Mrs. are doing well, just thought I’d help clear this matter up. I am the one in this video and I also work at Disneyland on their railroad now; I do stay very close to my roots with the Colorado railroads and continue to do lots of work with them as well even though I am at Disney now. You don’t have any names confused at all! Anyways, I hope you and the wife are doing well and I would enjoy catching up with you two again in the near future when the world returns to normal! -Jeff Berrier
@@JeffBerrier These two go on some pretty rad adventures. Glad you stopped by, I didn’t even think to tag your youtube even though I’ve been subscribed for years now 😂
Want a model.... in 1/20.3. Love to se it run!! But that would involve 90% of it being replaced. So not a good idea Better at that point to just build a totally new one fro scratch.
Toy man television well I did ride on the Colorado railroad museum on galloping goose # 7. It happened on July 2016. And I hope to come back to the museum sometime.
From the few small instances where I could see the wheels I guessed this was a Mikado, turns out it is. It should be about the same size as the Northern they have at Union Station, so a big fella indeed.
Very nicely done video, however 491's place as the only operating K-37 is about to become a thing of the past. I don't know if you're aware of this or not, the Durango & Silverton is restoring sister locomotive 493 to operation. My understanding is that the railroad plans to have it up and running next year.
Yup. Oddly they decided to get rid of the k 37 as it’s so hard in the rails. They would love to have 6 K36s. Perfect for them and CATS. But the rest of us love to see the variety of locomotives.
I like the variety too myself. As for 493, with all the roadbed and track upgrades the current owners made after they took over in 1997, that probably won't be as big of a problem as it was back when the 497 was running on the railroad. Either way it will be great to see another K-37 back in steam. There's going to be several steam engines returning to service over the next couple of years. Chesapeake & Ohio 1309 in Maryland for example, The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad has a rare 2-4-4-2 Mallet that's almost ready for service, and a few others as well under restoration. And of course the two big ones I am most looking forward to, 4014 and Santa Fe 4-8-4 2926 in New Mexico. Having ridden behind Santa Fe 3751, another 4-8-4 that is an older sister to 2926, I can say that those who end up getting to see or ride behind 2926 on her first excursion will be in for a treat.
Speaking of restorations i found this D&RGW locomotive # 223 their restoring. I was wondering if you would do a video about it. D&RGW #223 Restoration Progress
#488 was the locomotive that pulled my train the first time I rode C&TSRR. Then, 489 was my second. I love both. I wish I could have one in G scale though. But man, 489's whistle sounds buff!
20 is so neat!!!! richardson explained how he got it!! When he bought the 346 he wanted to "drive" it to Alamosa for the Motel. D and RG would not let him. Would not even quote a price to move it. SO he made a deal with the RGS. to tow it to Durango, at which D and RG would be required to let it use their track to continue to Alamosa. So he towed it with #20. And when they got to Alamosa, D and RG would not let 20 back on the track, so it stayed at the Motel.
Hi. Yes. They are on teaspring. I tried to link but my computer is old and I’m a bit clueless on that. I made some new shirts with a small rocket 🚀 and more text but when I got some I really didn’t like the material. The older one with just the rocket and toy man. Some also say still plays with trains or still plays with toys. Those are better. I need to figure out what went wrong on the new ones. The light blue looks best I think but they have them in black as well.
@@ToyManTelevision Awesome, I'm going to check them out. I've been plugging your channel to friends and such. The content that you produce is wonderful and inspiring. It should be shared.
Johnny Ray wow! Thanks!!! We do this for a couple of reasons but mostly because it’s fun. When I was “encouraged” to retire I was scared and angry. Very long story but it turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. Anyway karyn and I are enjoying retirement mostly because we are sharing it with so many great people and friends. And for the first time I can make videos any old way I want. Nothing fancy. Just fun. Earlier tonight I finally put power to an old jukebox I’m rebuilding. For the second time. Bought it in about 1980 and rebuilt it and had it in my house for almost 20 years. Then along with a bunch of things it was stolen. And 7 years later I’m in an antique store and there it is! Broken and abused but my old jukebox so I bought it. And stored it away as I didn’t have time to even try turning it on. Been collecting parts. And because we have time and a desire to rebuild the poor thing after months of messing with it here and there a few hours ago I plugged it in. Still a lot of work to do on it but it sort of came to life. 3 of my old records were still in it and we played them over and over. And while it’s still spread all over Garagemahall the lights were mostly on and it was looking a bit like a jukebox. Yup. Best thing that ever happened to me. Thanks for the support.
It is a K 37! MONSTER!!!! There are 2 operating K 27's, one at Chama one at Huckleberry. (and 2 at Garagemahal but those ate 1/20.3 scale so... l) A friend just bought a K37 in 1/20.3. HOLLY CRAP!! Looks a lot like the K 27 but s much bigger!!! AND weighs in at 45 pounds!!!!!!!!!
Love a bit a bit of steam loco footplate action! I posted a clip here a while ago showing me under firing tuition, tried pasting the link but won't do it.( "Steam loco cabride no.1" on my 'struck2soon' channel if you are interested.)
No, it was in service, but in WWII the standard gauge lines had an excess of small freight locos and the "narrows" had a lack of narrow gauge engines so serveral C-41/42s were rebuilt into narrow gauge "mikes"
491 was rebuilt from D&RGW C-41 #1026 in 1928 by Burnham Shops in Denver. Also, the roundhouse wasn't built to accommodate a K-37 as no one envisioned this engine ever running again. They added an extension onto the left stall to fit this engine.
Hum.... Only know of 2. Alamosa and Nomad. Also as I recall, 2 at Knotts. One for sure as we have ridden it. But as I recall... Corse as I recall is sort of weak...
Heres a picure of the Alamosa, Nomad and the Cinco Animas on one train in a line. www.telegraphlore.com/telegraph_tales/drgw_web/instruments/Nomad/Nomad.jpg
