The Fort Lewis Indian Boarding School was one of hundreds of institutions set up in the latter part of the 19th century to erase Native American culture. The rallying cry of the day was “Kill the Indian - Save the Man.” Today, Fort Lewis College is finally reckoning with this troubling history and hopes for reconciliation and healing.

Thank you for such an insightful program. I learned a great deal from the personal stories, from Fort Lewis College staff and from the young people who care so much about their history. The program renews my hope that the future CAN be strong -- especially with the younger people working towards that goal by learning and appreciating the history, being active in the present and looking towards bettering the future. Thank you!

Very important history. Too much of it has been lost already.

Why isn't the Catholic Church paying money to these survivors of their boarding schools and the government as well this is an atrocity it should be taught in the public school system

Were there men sent out to steal the children & bring them to boarding school, as there were in Canada, per Kevin Annett (who has a channel on youtube)?

Excellent presentation! Thank you for this RECONCILIATORY APPROACH to education and healing. IT GIVES ME HOPE FOR THIS SETTLER COLONIAL EMPIRE'S REDEMPTION.

... Look up the definition of regimentation. Today, children of all colors go through this at all public schools. Perhaps less vicious than the boarding schools, but regimentation all the same.

I thought this was going to be a history lesson about what happened at the old fort. I learned almost nothing from this.
