Coloring Comics with Watercolors 

Hi Sarah. That’s not a dumb question at all. It’s actually quite a good one as normally inking always happens before coloring. The reason I’m doing it the other way around is because I wanted to have colored storyboards. So what you’re seeing in the video is me actually coloring my storyboards. I normally don’t do this extra step because it adds tons of extra work, but because I was still in search of a visual art style for this webcomic (as it’s my first one for RESET), I wanted to test the colors out first on my storyboards (penciled line art). What this does is give me an early preview for all 12 pages of how the actual final result will look. Once I create the final line art, I might just do the coloring process from scratch, but this time I’ll just have to color pick from my colored storyboards as I won’t have to struggle with finding the right color combinations anymore. In some cases like this page spread that I’ve shown here, I might be able to get away with just adding a finished ink layer on top of the already existing art and just clean up the colors somewhat afterwards (so that the right colors stay within their designated areas, etc.). So yes... it’s a bit of a longer process than I usually would do (as seen my other videos on this channel), but in this case I just wanted to do this extra step in preparation for the final pages and it really helps to get a quick color overview for all pages before you finish your comic as a whole. It’s a process that’s often used within the animation industry or film industry during the pre-production phase. I hope this explains my reasoning a bit. 😉

Hola Matadorstudio, how have you been? Nice to hear from you again! I’m happy you enjoy my videos and website setup. Adobe Muse has unfortunately been discontinued by Adobe so I will have to find a new way to setup my website. I don’t update it frequently (last update was easily over a year ago). I think that in the future I’ll be using a website service like square space or Wix. I’m not sure in which direction to go just yet, however before ever using Adobe Muse, I used to build my own websites in Dreamweaver which is also by Adobe and I doubt that will be going anywhere so I’ll have to see. If all goes well, my RESET webcomic will be getting its own website as I have tons of interesting things planned for it. The first short story is being completed as we speak and I’ll be uploading it hopefully before the end of this year for everyone to finally read. It’s short, but it provides a good introduction into the world of RESET. You take good care of yourself and I’m happy to have heard from you again. Wishing you all the best old friend 😉👊🏻

David Arroyo I have been good thanks, hope you and your family are doing well. It’s tough finding time to draw and I sometimes decide it’s over no more drawing but the urge always returns. I did see that regarding Adobe Muse. I been looking at this webcomic template theme.toocheke.com/ which is what evil inc uses. I have looked into square space in the past but they are expensive. This guy made a webcomic template clayyount.com. And it looks awesome but I think he ended having issues as his posts grew, he talks about it on his website. Anyways, I enjoyed the ton of videos you been making, thanks and hope you do finish your webcomic cause it looks very promising. Take care my friend!

Thanks Treesixhundred. I’m happy you like it. I’m very curious myself as to the final result, but I have a good feeling about it as I’m quite confident in getting this one right. I’ll soon be finished with the colored storyboards and then it’s off to create the final line art for all 12 pages and I’ll have to finalize colors to match the inked details. I’ll most likely upload a video about that process as well. 😉👍🏻
