Hi Peter I noticed you used your wheeled nippers to cut the new porcelain tiles you were demonstrating for us. Can you break my confusion as I’ve looked at heaps of different mosaic clips and they say only use your wheeled nippers for glass or fine china or you will blunt them. What is the answer please to my conundrum?

Hi Lib, The tiles in this video were ceramic not porcelain so its easier. There are different wheeled nippers in the market place. The two types I used in this video are the Leopnitt double wheeled nippers and the Montolitt (blue handles). The Leponitt are fine for glass and generally harder materials and I do use them for porcelain crockery, however not thick porcelain tiles. The Monelitt are designed for glass and harder materials such as porcelain. It is true you can blunt the Leponitts quicker by using them on tile instead of glass, the way around that is to have two pairs, one for the glass and one for the tile, you can always buy new replacement wheels to. Because I do a lot of mixed media mosaics I tend to use the Leponitts for pretty well everything except for very hard materials such as porcelain tiles. In the last 6 months I purchased a pair of the QEP Extreme nippers (I made a video review of these) and I use those for glass, although they will do soft ceramic. But if I'm creating a mixed media piece I use the Leponitts pretty well for all materials except the real hard stuff like porcelain tiles, otherwise I would be constantly changing tools, they are around 7 years old and never had new wheels. Everyone will have different opinions on what's best, that's why you are receiving conflicting reports but I don't want to be to precious about my hand tools but I also don't want to exceed their capability and break them either. I hope this helps. :)

Thanks very much Vivienne, I thought the same thing but these seem to be a bit easier than the Johnson tiles. Thanks heaps for watching. :)

LOL Thankyou so much Cindy. I have to say there are many times when I see products from the USA and think I would love to have those, because you have such a vast range of everything. :)

Peter I m happy to announce that I have finally started on mosaics with small 4"x4" and 6"x6" Pieces and mounted them on small easels. You are one of the people I m most thankful to - so 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 salutations to you and my other gurus as we say in India. Loved the colors of these new tiles and as usual your demo was educative. Unfortunately some of the tiles that i have don't have quality glazing which chips off. Do you have any suggestions? IF I post pics of my work on my channel please indulge me by having a look - will tell when I do it. Meanwhile keep inspiring 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Thankyou so much Rupa, so glad they you are enjoying the videos and that have progressed into creating mosaics. I would defiantly use the tiles indoor if the glaze is chipping, using them outside or where moisture is would most likely compromise your mosaic. :)

People in the US. You can get the straight edge tile nippers at Home Depo. That’s where I got mine, only 10 $ at my local Home depo

Thankyou from all the USA viewers. :) I will just add If you are looking for tile nippers its important to keep in mind the comfort, weight and reliability as well, like any product you are looking to purchase. :)

I wish they made these beautiful colorful tiles a bit thiner. The tickness is much different from other tiles or glass such vitreous ones
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 2 года назад
I agree it would be great if they were a little thinner, but they are designed for tiling on walls. When compared to glass or vitreous you are right the thickness is considerably different. Thankyou for watching Mozhdeh. :)

Very beautiful colours. Do you need to buy them by the square metre?

Thankyou so much, after the video was uploaded I realised that I hadn't mentioned that you can buy the tiles individually if you wanted to. :)

can I use them outside?
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 2 года назад
That would depend on the environment that they are in. They are a wall tile like the Johnson coloured range and are not porcelain. A moderate climate would be much better than a freeze thaw area.

@@TreasuryRoad I'm in Queensland and it would be for an outdoor stepping stone.

@@rainbowobsidian5313 I cant comment specifically about peoples jobs because there are always variables like any job that I cannot see. One thing you would defiantly need to be careful about is the slippage because they have a glazed surface unless its an ornamental stepping stone, especially if they get wet. :)

@@TreasuryRoad thank you. I guess I need to just try. I just feel bad about them all falling off.

@@rainbowobsidian5313 I wouldn't expect them to fall off unless you did something wrong or the incorrect adhesive was used. :)
