if you have an Apple ipad, the drawing app Procreate just added a color picker in their update today. The app is affordable, around $10, and the color picker works from your camera or a photo. The app quickly creates a palette of about 30 colors, which can be printed out or used directly from the tablet. Matching with your colored pencils would then be done as is shown in this video.
Great video! Thanks! I often find a large drift in colours between the digital image and how it prints off as a reference photo....What paper are you drawing on?
Hi Dorothy, no, it isn't something I recommend to my students as I feel it doesn't help them to try to learn to match the colours themselves. This isn't a method I use but it is one that I teach as a way to see the colours and then match them up. When someone learns their pencil palette then over time they won't need any additional aids to pick the colours.
