This was FABULOUS!! I just got inktense the full 72 colors, love the colors, but clueless in using and choosing colors not to mention the color blends. I could sit all day and listen to you teach about color and shadow and blending. I did my very first leaf with you and I was shocked how nice it turned out for a first time! If you have more of this type of video I would love to watch them. Your voice is very soothing, which made coloring even more enjoyable! Keep up the great work and I'm so glad I found you tonight!
I've just recently purchased these pencils and didn't really have a clue where to start with them! Great tutorial for a beginner like me. Thank you for sharing 😀
Hi Peta, I really LOVED watching your work with the Inktense Pencils. We have just bought a full set of these pencils for fabric but I didn't realize that you could use them on paper like this. I really LOVED the color mixing for shading etc. I'm learning lots from you and once we have shifted and settled nothing will stop me from giving this a go but as I get the chance I will watch more of your videos as I feel like I'm a sponge just soaking it all up. Thank-you loads you are impressive to watch! I also never say anything I don't mean.
Thank you, Peta. This is a wonderfully helpful tutorial, not just for Inktense pencil technique but also for coloring, blending, shading and shadows in general. BRAVO. =)
I absolutely love to watch your tutorials. You always go straight to the point and not have any unrelated chatting. I also love inktense pencils because you can do so much with them.. they have so many beautiful colors and more quickly complete pictures when compared with colored pencils. Thank you so much and can't wait to see more of your vedios
When I saw that this video was 45+ minutes, I thought I wouldn't commit to watching the whole thing, but after a couple minutes I was so intrigued I had to watch to the end. Fascinating, and so helpful! I got my intense pencils out and started working with them as I watched. Fabulous! Thank you, so much!
Peta I love all your content, it really inspires me in my coloring and I always look forward to new blogs/videos. I particularly enjoy these videos with the Derwent pencils in your Magical City book. I can not wait for more updates on this book!!!
I loved this video, Peta! Now I want to go back and watch all your speed coloring videos with the inktense pencils again. I always slow down your speed videos when I watch them. Your music is still awesome in slow-mo, too, BTW. I would love a video of you coloring in real time. I really enjoyed the one with the mandala and different pencils. Will probably watch it again. lol I have bad migraines and chronic daily headache. When I can't color to dull the pain because of vision troubles, I watch coloring videos. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. Happy Coloring!
Thank you for your tutorials Peta. I used to colour a lot as a teen then dropped it in my 20's. Now I'm older and just starting to get back into it . You're tutorials have been great to watch for inspiration and new techniques to add just that tiny bit more of a challenging and mature look to my books. I've kinda been marathoning them LOL.
I love these inktense pencils! When coloring any of the three Johanna Bransford books the smaller areas were not giving me what I wanted when using water no matter how small the brush but I tried the Stampin up blender pen and it works beautifully as long as you don't rub the paper over and over really hard or scrub the paper essentially or it will pill the paper. I did try other blender pens but the solution and nib with the Stampin up blender pen gave me the best results.
Thank you so much for creating this video. I am starting to get back into drawing and art again and have been using coloring books to practice new mediums and techniques. I had never used these pencils until I saw your video and now I can't quit using them! They are quickly becoming a favorite for me. I love your videos, they are very informative and fun!
I followed your suggestions w these pencils & got terrific results. I love these pencils & spent a lot of money buying the big Woden box of them that I treasure. Great demos I do mean all of your demos. So glad I found you. Jewell
Thank you so much for sharing this! I bought the full 72 set with Xmas gift cards, and I got several coloring books as gifts. Can't wait to put your techniques to work. :-) You do such lovely work!
Wow what can I say the Derwent look amazing the way you have shown us.You are an inspiration.I really am looking forward to my Derwent Inktense arriving.Thankyou so much.👏👏👏♥️🌈
Watched your video !! Now I got my book (smaller version), some Inktense pencils and an aquabrush - complete novice but excited ... Thanks for your inspiration.
Thanks for the video - very informative. I'm about to start using the Inktense pencils and found your video gave me lots of great tips I can't wait to try.
I just wanted to thank you so much for posting your very informative and inspiring videos. I learned so much from your technique videos. Tomorrow I am expecting the 70 set of Derwent inktense pencils, pencil and burnish blenders, water-holding paint brushes, ink blocks for water coloring, and the 'Painterly Days' and 'My Vintage Room' coloring books. I'm very excited to try water coloring, which you inspired me to do. I love the way you use your aqua brush with the inktense pencils. I tried to water color today in 'Time of Memory' illustrated by Kim Sun Hyan using those very beautiful Farber-castell gelatos. It was very fun so I can't wait for this new haul! I'll let you know how it came out. I also wanted to thank you for bringing 'My Vintage Room' to my attention. That's coming on Tuesday. I will also be ordering the Japanese books you reviewed, especially Misrery Longing and the other ones. Your coloring is totally awesome! I am totally obsessed with this coloring craze!! Very fun!!
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I finally retired and would love to take art classes but can't afford them. Your videos are a great replacement. You do beautiful work and a fantastic job at explaining everything.
I really enjoy your vedios and sharing of such helpful and inspiring information. You are one my favorites to watch . I especially appreciate the absence i of frivolous activity and talking
I just got the 24 piece set... but, wanted to watch a few videos before getting too far in. I Did think they were watercolor, and, quickly found I was wrong. Excited to subscribe and catch up.
This is fabulous. I have had the entire set of these pencils for about 6 months and just pulled them out, as I did not know how to work with them. In fact, I have been learning how to work with colored pencils, as I am new with this type of medium. I have painted flowers and landscapes with oils but I did not like having to be in one room painting and hubby in another. With colored pencils as well as watercolor pencils, I figured I can color and listen to the TV while hubby watches TV. I like working with Prismacolor Premier pencils. I have FC pencils, FC watercolor pencils and Carnan pencils, butI like PC pencils the most. So when I started out using the Derwent pencils, I tried using the technique that I use for colored pencils, and it just was not working. Watching this helped so very much. Thank you so much for this video!
Hi Delores. It's a great hobby. I have also tried oils and acrylic paints but i found watercolours suit me best. I am still learning with those. All pencils (indeed all art supplies) have their own personalities and ways of using them. I love my Inktense pencils. I have a preference for Polychromos pencils as I feel it is too hard to control gentle layering with Prisma's. (Although I do like prisma's and use prefer them on certain types of paper. Hubby and I have arranged two nights of the week... one were i join him in Computer games (we rarely watch television) and one where we sit and art and craft together.
Peta I have just purchased the Inktense pencils. This video was incredibly helpful. I knew I wanted these pencils from the beautiful application and ease of use. I have not used them yet, and came here first to watch you apply. I am so impressed with the way the colour lays down, and being permanent and not watercolour. I did not know this before watching your video, so informative and such beautiful work. Thank you for sharing :)
Oh WOW. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou. Thank goodness its mothers day soon. This video was so helpful. After having only used coloured pencils and markers I finally found a water medium I'm in love with! Tfs & take care 🌹
Thank you so much. This has been very helpful . I love your no nonsense instruction. I have a select few of artist of various types of art channels I watch and you are one of the them . I love all your work. Sometime please show us your original art. I would love that
Excellent tutorial! Thank you very much for all your wonderful videos. I admire the way your explanation, very detail , calm and keeping all my attention. Thank you very much again. Best wishes to all your projects 💖💖💖
Wow, what an awesome video! I just received my Inktense pencils this week! This video was right on time. Ready to make my color palette this weekend! You are the best...I love your videos. I want to try mine in my Johanna Basford books!
Thankyou so much for sharing the way you use inktense pencils with us. It was very informative and also very pretty. I am sure this will help anyone who has never used them before. Again thankyou and have a wonderful day.
Peta thanks for the inspiration! I just finished my first page using inktense pencils on the Enchanted forest book and I loved it! Greetings from Mexico!!!!
Thank you so much for this excellent tutorial! I had never even heard of these Inktense pencils, but now I am inspired to try them out in my coloring books!
Looks fab! Can you show us some more tips about colouring/shading/blending/working with the Faber Castell Polychromos pencils? Want to be able to get the most out of the full set that I just splurged on. That'd be terrific. :D
The finished form of this turned out beautifully (could see it during the step by step tutorial of the next page over). That one is amazing too...well, all your art is. Finally received my copy of The Magical City and am just starting to follow along.
I love watching you work! Your so talented and it's so soothing! Went out yesterday and bought the Faber castell polychromos 24 count set with my Michaels 40% off coupon and then ordered the 72 count prisms colors premier set and now seeing this i want the inktense pencils lol. I've been coloring with cheap pencils for a while so I wanted to treat myself. The polychromos are amazing pencils!!! Wish I would have gotten the full set!
Hello from S.A. Thank you for doing this video for us Peta. I was glued to the screen for every second. I had just bought my Inktense pencils and realised that I really didn't know how to use them. I have some Derwent Aquarelle pencils and I don't know how to use them either and I'm hoping that amongst your video's you can help me there.
Thank you for making this tutorial! I accidentally ordered these rather than the regular colored pencils and was disappointed that I would end up having to use them like a. normal colored pencil due to my inability to get results I like from the budget priced watercolor pencils I got to try out. this tutorial has made me embrace watercolor pencils and I am going to dig the other ones out and give them another go
This was an amazing video, thank you for showing some tricks and tips. :) I love to work with my Faber Castell Albrecht Dürer pencils (120 colours) and just got the 36 colour set of Derwent Inktese pencils to widen my possibilities. It is a lot of fun. With your video you have shown me some more ways to play with the new pencils. :)
This is THE best toroidal I've seen on Intense Pencils! Thank you so much. I wish I would have found your before I watched 20 terrible ones, lol. I subscribed and you have a loyal follower!
Great video! Would love to see more like this e.g. how you do sky, grass etc. It's great you showed us what pencils you've used! Thanks to you I've got a set of Inktense pencils and Magical City book so would love more tips as they are quite difficult to use if you not familiar with them. I am learning so much from you!
Hello! I am French and I am subscribed to your Channel since your beginnings and I am fascinated by what you are doing! You are the real artist and I wanted to thank you because it is a delight for our eyes. I also these pencils and I love them. I am also an enthusiast of drawings and paint but with coloured pencils we make so many marvels as the paint .Thank you very much for all your videos and share, we are a lot in France to follow you and there will be more and more. Long life in your channel and you and better wishes. (Excuse I if I do not write very well English) big kisses
+cassieden eden Thank you very much! I am glad that you enjoy my work. France is such a beautiful country, I look forward to finishing this picture. :)
For anyone looking at Derwent Inktense in the US, Amazon has the 72 pencil set (ships from the UK) for the same retail price (roughly, including shipping!) as the 24 pencil set at Michaels! Worth the wait, for sure.
Thank you so much for your videos. I'm a 63 old woman who can't draw a straight line with a ruler but these books are bringing me great satisfaction....and keeping those little grey cells active. Is there anyway you can do a speed painting video of the entire Eiffel Tower page? Along with giving a list of all the colors you used? Am enjoying your instruction so much!!! Again, Thank you and God bless.
Thanks for the video Peta. I have a measley few Inktense pencils -Red , Green , Blue Yellow and Black. I also have a pod of 12 Derwent Aquatones and assorted pencils , from artist to student grade. Ive been a bit frightened to use the watercolour and inktense pencils, but I think I will give it a go. :)
Thank you Mrs Hewitt, this was just what i was looking for, i received in Christmas a 72 Derwent Inktense set, and your video gave me so much inspiration. Please make more tutorials about color combinations and how to know where to put shadows, im totally new into coloring and i find it so amazing thanks to kind peoole like you that share their experience.
I really wish they would offer watercolour paper edition option for the more professional coloring books. Also I recommend the Caran De’Ache fibre point water brushes. Very handy for small areas and detailed colouring wiht inktense or watercolours.
Yes... i want to get my hands on some of those brushes. I've heard good things about them. And I agree... it is a pity more colouring books are not printed on watercolour paper.
Peta, your tutorials are the best! Such good info and easy to understand. Your artwork is beautiful and inspiring. Thank you! Have a great colorful day :) ~Holly Goodman
I just want to thank you I really did learn so much, for example, simply to use my watercolor pencils in a coloring book or, in my case, how to use them period. I do own a 12 piece of Inktense set and had no idea they were ink and not a watercolor, the name "Inktense" should of been a clue to me though. If I may also add, and I mean this in the most positive and complimentary way possible. I had watch some of the reviews you first did sharing detailed book reviews, I must say you can tell you are a lot more comfortable doing your reviews, it really shows and maybe because you are sharing your techniques, I find they are much improved and just wanted to let you know I think your doing a great job. So, since I own The Magical City, because of your book review and I also purchased her Christmas book, and I own a watercolor brush similar to the one you were using, and more importantly, know how to use, I cant wait to get started and attempt some water coloring in my books without being afraid I will destroy them, thanks to your step by step demonstration. As a subscriber to your channel, keep up the good work as I will continue to enjoy and more importantly, learn from, your educational reviews.
+Michelle C and I can also tell that your library of coloring books has also grown quite a bit. Be careful, like I wrote before, don't end up like me where your overwhelmed with all the books and finding one to color, that you have no time to spend coloring. I have a sense that you are not quite as restless as I can be so I think you will be alright. :o)
+Michelle C Hi Michelle. Glad to be of help. Yes. I agree that my videos have improved from those early ones. (Did you know I only made the first one because I was complaining in a group that I could only find mostly Secret garden related colouring videos and i wanted to look at other books and another member challenged me to start making my own. I've gone from holding my phone to video to having a proper camera on a tripod and my husband editing the videos. :) Good advice about the books. I own a number as I also get presents and review copies sent to me and some I just can't resist (Tangle Wood, Wildscapes). I concentrate almost all my colouring in Enchanted Forest, Animorphia, The Magical City and Lost Ocean with a few forrays into one of six other books when a picture lures me to them.
Peta..........Thanks again. I wanted to go back and see more of how you used your inktense but this reminded me of a request. Would you share the way you might color the Seattle page of this book? Lizzie Cullen is one of my favorites, along with Millie Marotta. You introduced me to both artists. Thank you. I just love watching you work and I appreciate all the time you take to do these demos for us and how you explain the steps as you progress. You are an outstanding teacher.
