I can attest this is a great gun and highly recommend it to anyone thinking about getting one. Bought one about 3 years ago when I saw one available at my LGS. Was completely shocked as many Colts were not compliant in MA for many years, especially Series 70 guns like this. Immediately told the seller I wanted it the moment I saw it. Mine is blued as well, but it's one of the newer ones that come with a nice, polished finish unlike the specimen in the video. Was completely reliable with all the ammo I fed it and definitely more accurate than I can shoot. Not often I use the term "Worth every penny", but this was one of those occasions.

@@dv8322 Yep. Not only are they hideous, these VZ grips will scratch the hell out of your frame if the screws come loose during shooting and wiggles around. I switched to a traditional set of wood grips with the Colt medallions.

Bought the Series 70 Government in 73..Thing was terrible...You had to put your foot against a tree to pull the trigger to fire it..And empties came out peened square on one side...Sent it to Wilson Combat...The went all thru it . @@manuelsanchez5028 It should say somewhere on the box or in the manual/ paperwork. You can also usually tell by: The exterior: The early series 80 versions were all mate finish. Also usually the series 80s had a serial number starting with a number CCS01..., The newer series 70 models start with CCS02... I learned to shoot the 1911A1 once the Marine Corps owned me in 78. I had shot a 1911 growing up, but once the professionals got me, it was night and day improvement. Once that gun imprints on your body and brain and the training is something you do not have to think about and the muscle memory is there, it is a hoot to shoot. People who complain about the recoil, they need to work out. Sure, I have a lot of modern pistols. However, nothing feels the same in my hand. Browning got it right.

I’ve put 250 rounds through my new ccw Tisas B45r 5 inch in 45 auto. You can buy grip tape cut for the front strap for $5 on Amazon. It makes a great deal of difference in the overall feel. Tripp Research Cobra mags are the only mags I will buy because the mag release cut on the mag is lower than other mags so the rounds are higher up on the feed ramp which is why the jhp work every time. The rounds are angled higher as well.

my series 80 gold cups also had bad cuts in the front of the slide that would bind and cut up blue wilson recoil buffers, cleaned those out too. Best of all the gold cups were not overly tight in slide to frame fit. I've seen "high end" 1911 that were overly tight and were not reliable, I've run diamond magic compound in the rails of two so called high end guns that wouldn't run correctly, loosened them both up and they ran flawless after that....

Can't believe he kept going on about it being a series 70! Also on a match barrel you should never turn the the barrel bushing while it's in battery. The reason being if it's truly a fitted match barrel and you turn the bushing while it's in battery you could scratch the barrel. Take out the slide lock pin and remove the slide and barrel assembly, remove the barrel and then turn and remove the bushing for cleaning / lube.

Should have just kept the Gold Cup going, and maybe make a few improvements. I have a Gold Cup that I purchased in 1985. I love that gun and it shoots just fine.

I’m gonna get one. Love my Glocks but the Colt 1911 is special. I want the Ruger 1911 also but will get the Colt Competition first.
