Never fails to blow me away how easily hickok hits the red plate with hand guns. And of course he downplays how ridiculously hard that is.

Hickock is the best. Reminds me of hanging out with my grandpa. Tells interesting stories and chitchats while casually plinking plates at 50 yards. I love how he still thinks it's funny after decades when two leader bottles burst.

heh, thanks man. I'm ganna get a cz p07 (threaded barrel) for the range. and a glock 30s for CC (although I live in the socialist republic of MD so I can't get a CCP) and then an 20in ar-15. Then some kinda bolt action 7mm rem mag. anyways love your vids keep it up! I'll always be watching!!!

I escaped from the Democratic People's Republic of Commiefornia 4 years ago. Moved to a very red state. Went to a gun store and saw all these high cap gun mags for sale. Saw all these "assault rifles" hanging in the wall for sale. No 10 day wait. No approved roster. No 1 gun a month. No firearm safety card. No ammo background check. Cash and carry. We have "constituonal carry" so no permit to carry either open or concealed! I've seen people carrying open in the supermarket and shopping mall. 5 minutes filling out the computerized federal form. We have gun stores in hardware stores and grocery stores. Can you believe it? Get your salsa and chips and pick up a Colt or FN! Got my CCW. We're a "shall issue" state and it's recognized in 37 other states.

I’ve owned Colt, Springfield, Para Ordnance, Kimber, and even Rock Island 1911’s. And out of all of them, my Colt Defender is my favorite. It has an aluminum alloy frame and is as tightly built as my Kimber Custom Shop (which was made when Kimber customs were just that). I did polish the ramp when it was new on the advice of the gun shop owner. It’s never let me down while firing. It takes a 7 round mag, and I always carry one in the chamber, with the hammer down, so I’m carrying 8 rounds. I’ve looked at Kimber carry models as we’ll as Wilson Combat, but I stayed with old reliable. And my Defender is a first generation I purchased in 2000. I will say if I hadn’t been offered an astronomical sum for my Para Ordnance P12-45 LDA. I would probably still be carrying it. I sometimes kick myself for selling it because there isn’t another one like it. I had bobbed the beaver tail, and had done a trigger job to 2lbs of pull, along with a black Cerakote finish. And a guy at the San Antonio gun show walked up and asked me about it, and offered me $1500. cash in $100 dollar bills. Since I only had about $700, in the pistol, he was the proud new owner. Then Para drops the P12-45 LDA from its product line, and I’m still looking for the right used P12. Nonetheless, I still love my Defender.

I'm an older dude. But, one thing I will never understand is why anyone or everyone doesn't love a 1911? I just feel like once someone shoots a 1911, they will be hooked. I've never been a fan of the double-stack 9mm. (Yeah, I'm embarrased to admit that I have small hands) and that .45 1911 single stack is so ergonomically beautiful. Cheers!

It is the best. Typically, I have it as close to me as my cell phone usually is. I'm a very slim individual so the single stack sub-compact model is fantastic for concealability. I also dislike polymer frames, so the all metal design and barrel really keep recoil and uncomfortable shooting in check. My hands are very large like Hickok's but they feel comfortable and I always am able to get a good grip when drawing from an IWB holster. All in all, it is a very visually appealing and practical every day carry firearm. The only downside is the weight and some may find it heavy after a day of running errands, but I personally don't mind or notice.

Just picked one up. The size is perfect, and 1911, let's be honest, will never be beat. Have quite a few pistols but I've never held or shot one that feels more comfortable and accurate in my entire life.

I have used the Colt 1911 (Full Size) when serving with the Marines. Fine weapon. The Colt 1911 Light Model makes a fine CCW.

You can see the slowish 45 acp rounds "drop in" on Hickok's long plate shots. Nice review of Lightweight Commander 1911.

I have carried various handguns on duty and off, and owned a bunch of others. As a retirement gift to myself I bought one of these to own and carry. I’m impressed to all hell with this pistol. It’s comfortable, easy to shoot and fires straight as a pin. Hickok you’ve fired sooooo many more firearms than me. I had to see what you thought of it. It’s good to hear it’s got your blessing. 😉 Incidentally I prefer the Novak sights too. Had’em on my S&W 9mm I carried on duty and liked them so when I saw this had them it sealed the deal. Quote: “I didn’t shoot as well as I do some days “ 😳 Damn! I can’t tell!

Great video! In 1985 I was a young Infantry Captain when I assumed command of a M901 TOW ATGM company in a Mechanized Infantry Battalion. My late Dad gifted me a series 80 LWC after the assumption of command ceremony. I still have it. Carried it during my last tour of duty post 9/11 until I retired in Oct 1983. Never cared for the M9 to put it mildly.

Appreciate how there is no self promotion here. The focus is on what he has on the table or I. The holster and not how “cool” HE is. Great resource if you are trying to get some information and also entertaining at the same time. I always check to see if he’s got a video of a firearm I’m looking to purchase.

Great review Hickok45, my new Colt Commander 9mm lightweight was one of those Colts with poor quality out of the factory. Sent it back to Colt because of frame to slide fit issues as well as barrel to slide fitment. Customer service was, well par for Colt. They replaced the barrel & barrel bushing, squeezed the slide on the frame and tested for accuracy at 15 yards and sent it back after 9 weeks. Funny thing is they sent it back to me without emailing me first to let it know it was coming! If I didn't call Colt to find out where my gun was in the repair process, I wouldn't have known that the gun was on its way back! I believe there may be better options out there for 1911 lightweight commander style firearms then an over priced and underwhelming Colt.

That's a nice setup. Glad they didn't put forward cocking serrations on the slide. I think ball cuts would look really nice on this gun.

When life becomes a battlefield command it with the Lightweight Commander. I had feeding issues with mine until I switched to using the Vickers Duty Mags. I carry mine every day.

I believe I was 15 when I got my first powder actuated pistol, it was a Combat Commander 45 ACP. It was my primary Carry at our family business, but not before I put 400 rounds through it, and scored 20/20

Ya Know Hickory, many years ago I carried a colt commander in electroless nickel with the black controls a grip. man, it was striking to look at. still miss that gun. Lot of years Sir! I now carry a Les Baer TRS and love it! I do with it had the relife cut under the back of the trigger guard though. I have small hands, and the thin frame, skillful checkering same, and the ultra thin Grips on the TRS suite me. It would help just that much more! perhaps I'll get brave and do it mayse. lol. I will be in the market for another handgun when I get back home in VA, and I am seriously considering a 1911 like that colt commander. I've been also looking at the Springfield 1911 compact and the Dan Wesson CCO or ECO. Your video have as always been not only very informative, but equally entertainning.., "Life is good".

I've got the prior model with the stainless steel & front serrations as my daily. Never had any issues other than with Hornady jhp's not feeding but only because they're shaped stupidly.., federal, buffalo bore, etc all work fine. Great pistol.

Definitely something they need to incorporate into "lightweight alloy" frames is a piece of steel on the feed ramp. Great point and I highly agree. Personally I will stick with all steel. But good vid as always.

I just bought a Colt Lightweight Commander .45 today, and its as nice as all my other 1911's. It'll be an IWB pistol, but I'll switch to a shoulder holster in the Fall. I've seen some pretty shaky frame/slide fit Colts, but the one I bought is tight enough. I have 1911's that have tighter fits, but the Colt was dead on at 25 yards. I don't know if I'd pay $1,000 for it, but I traded even for some plastic pistols I wasn't using.

1911, It's a Colt or it's a copy ! I have two, A government series 80 in stainless, and a Combat Commander. Both are great firearms.

Colt was credited with manufacturing the first 1911 with patent rights and with assistance of the creator himself Mr. Browning. That being is why an 1911 out of the Colt factory cost more than an ATI or say a para ordnance 1911. Colt ( Rolls Royce ), Remington / Para Ordnance ( Mercedes/ BMW ), ATI / Rock Island ( Toyota ). You pay for quality.

Would be good to see a comparison against the Ruger Lightweight Commander. I have the Ruger model and it's been a fine shooter, no failures. Titanium feed ramp is nice, slim cocobolo grips, and front vertical serrations on the front strap. This Colt looks like a winner all around too.

hey Hickok, my personal side arm is the D2, it's a sawed off double barrel shotgun with short barrels and no stock. I have another one Called the D50 Witch is also known as the Hollywood hand cannon. it's a 50 cal semi auto pistol
