As a former USAF Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Instructor, I have to say this is a great video with plenty of information for the Greenhorns. When I saw who was doing the video, I figured it was going to be informative. All new AR-15 owners should definitely watch this. Nice job.

Nice OG AR. I have a 1981 Colt Pre-Ban with no forward assist and still shoot the shit out of it today. With the 20" barrel I still have great velocity even with the 12:1 twist. I enjoy shooting it more than my newer generation AR's (I am old school and sentimental) and it has been very dependable. AR's do however get somewhat temperamental if not consistently maintained and cleaned/lubed, unlike my AK's that are absolute workhorses and eat any ammo without the same need for attention. AR's are absolutely fun sporting rifles and videos like yours will definitely help new AR owners with proper breakdown and cleaning. Good stuff!

Love these kinda videos as well, they teach people who will eventually become first time owners a lot of important fundamentals that they will need later on and how to apply them. Not only do i still have a lot to learn, for me it´s also because i don´t know all the english terms yet but need to learn them, so seeing it hands on while hearing/seeing it helps out massivly.

Never seen the bone tool before. Pretty cool. I have a different type of scraper. I use pipe cleaners on all the holes of the carrier and bolt as well as the gas key hole. Also use pipe cleaners in the gas tube and around the delta ring. I use the old school Q tips with the paper stick that can be bent to clean the extension at the back of the chamber and behind the teeth. Q tips also work well to clean the rest of the inside of the receiver especially around the gas tube as well as the flash suppressor and crown. Never thought of using a make-up brush. I always used an old school shaving brush to put a light coat of oil on everything. It has worked pretty well for me for the last 44 years.

Off Topic Question: Have you guys ever experimented with Coconuts for targets instead of Watermelons? Literally just thought of it because I'm staring at a palm tree where I am. I thought you know what those would make very satisfying range targets. Especially as they come off the tree with that dense fiberous husk on the outside, then a dense shell, then the flesh and a water pocket in the center. Not quite representative of a human head, somewhat tougher indeed. But now I really want to see what they're like to shoot. I don't know how easy they are to get or how expensive in Georgia but that's gotta be a fun idea XD

The A.R. works underderest of dirt, grime ect. Cause it has the ability to block dirt from getting into it. The A.K. works under the same conditions cause of its slop and loose clearance. But if you open the bolt on either and or dust cover/ak safety lever it'll jam up quick

I don't think I've ever seen a cleaning video where the rifle wasn't clean. I would only consider going to this much trouble if I was going to sell the rifle or something. AR-15s will run for THOUSANDS of rounds without detailed cleaning like this as long as you keep them lubed/wet. In fact, some of these techniques and tools (such as scrapers and stuff) will actually cause damage and/or premature wear if you aren't careful or clean your rifle every time you shoot it like an autist with OCD who's addicted to Hoppes no 9 fumes. I use ALG/Geissele Go Juice and a bore snake and pull it through a few times after each trip to the range, and it's all good. Copper deposits are good for me; I'm worried about carbon deposits and potential corrosion in my barrel. I don't use harsh cleaning agents that contain ammonia, especially on chrome-lined bores. Also, the gas ring alignment is a myth. It has been proven that AR-15s will run with only one gas ring present. I stagger mine for good measure because I can, but it's unnecessary.

What a piece of sh-t rifle design...frigging O-rings inside of it...Eric calls them gas rings...I've fired 17 rounds through my new Alexander Arms 6.5mm Grendel with 3 failures to extract...sent it back to manufacturer...they stated it had a burr on the extractor and repaired it...have not tested it since then...I may sell it...I prefer my Ruger mini-14 I purchased in 1977. It's lighter and I can flip it from the shoulder position in 1 second...and be firing. It may not be super accurate but 2-3 inches at 100 yards is close enough for government work.

The idea/act of putting oil in the two holes on the BCG that's an older method. If you want to do it in a different way.. I'm just going to tell you how I do it. And it's worked all my life... There are four contact points on that bolt carrier group that need to be lubricated. And I recommend using gun butter it's thick and tacky and it lasts. I don't really see the purpose of having to put oil in those two holes and then put three or four drops behind it I mean that would run the firearm awfully wet wouldn't it? And well that unburned powder and smoke and whatnot that's coming dunk it up a whole lot faster. I don't know I don't do it the way you described in this video but that's just me. To each his or her own.
