I absolutely love and cherish my right to bare arms. I hunt, I carry, and I target shoot. It’s a great stress relief and hobby. I love guns. Gets me in trouble with the lady but she gets over it and is actually getting into guns. Yeah it looks like such a fun hobby but I could maybe own 5 out of 100s of guns Hickok45 has featured on his channel legally in my country, if I felt like jumping through months of paperwork, checks, safe installation, police visit, registration etc. It's not worth it to own a heavily neutered firearm. Disappointed as I have always had a fascination with guns. At least I haveHickok45 to watch.

I was in the Canadian Armed Forces at the time we made the transition from the FN C1A1 (SLR) to the Diemaco C7 (Canadian built AR-15) assault rifle. After going from a 7.62x51 to 5.56x45 in what seemed like a plastic toy, I was VERY negative about the decision. And then I fired it! (High velocity, accuracy with low recoil... and so much lighter) And three years later, I realised that the damn thing just didn't fail. In spite of sand, mud, dirt and ice. Very reliable. Yeah, this is was a wise decision. Outstanding rifle.

In reality, as you know, the enclosed action of the m16 won't jam. Unless you intentionally try, it's simply won't. Canada made the right decision to adopt the the c7 incarnation of the m16.

In 1984, I was firing the M16A1, and the M1911A1, but for some reason, no bayonet and had to buy my own K-BAR. Took me until 2017 to acquire a Colt AR15A4, which brings back lots of memories.. It is accompanied by a Colt Commander, and an Ontario OKC 3S bayonet, which oddly enough, fits the government Mini-14. Had to become a Buds Team member to get one of these, as they kept selling out. These are great guns, and just remember, every time an AR-15 is fired, a liberal cries "Ban assault weapons now!"

Funny thing is that this old rifle from 1984 without all the modern gimmicks, rails, cut down barrels etc. is actually a lot more powerful and if so wanted more leathal of a weapon. Like already mentioned in the comments earlier the 5.56x45 and .223 rem were designed to be shot out of at least 20" barrels to be able to gain the proper muzzle velocity to carry the light, low BC bullet out to a reasonable distance and really tear some flesh apart on impact. With proper hot loads this old thing puts out a significant amount more wallop @200yds and flatter trajectory than an M4 or any similar carbine length AR. Those are nice and handy but this is the real thing in what comes to 5.56 weapons.

When I was in the Army in 1984 I shot thousands of rounds thru an M-16A1. The sights and everything else BUT the hand guards were exactly the same as this AR-15. I had no trouble hitting a target at 400 meters with these sights.

Regardless of political persuasion, though, I think virtually all firearms enthusiasts would encourage anybody who cherishes the Bill of Rights to try his or her very best NOT to vote for gun banners. Fortunately, as they've come out of the closet lately, it's become easier to cast an intelligent vote that will not jeopardize our Second Amendment and the very firearms in our possession.

I was trained to shoot using the venerable M-16 A1 in Army basic training. Of course it was semi and full auto, unlike the current 3 round burst limited weapons. Shooting the A1 on full auto was a blast and at night the gas tube would glow cherry red. That hole on top of the carry handle was for the installation of a clip on brass deflector for left handed shooters, a little trivia. I have a standard AR-15 A2 similar to yours but it has all the A2 modifications (namely a built in brass deflector). I learn a great deal from your channel, so keep them coming because I know you will give an unbiased assessment. Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us who love to shoot.

People forget that 5.56 is truly effective from these rifles. M193 and M855 cause impressive terminal wounds when fired from 20" barrels. Use of the M4 carbine was extremely detrimental to the effectiveness of 5.56 in the middle East.

Monte PR I wonder if using a shorter stock on M16s would help bring them back into favor. Such an underrated AR variant.
@montepr803
@montepr803 6 лет назад
Parker Hart That is what the Vltor A5 kit essentially is. And there was a pretty big outcry by soldiers wanting their A4s back. Pretty much all the bad press about 5.56 is a product of the M4carbine. I'm not saying The M4 is bad, they just failed to provide optimized ammo for the M4 when it was adopted.
@mrsmith2876
@mrsmith2876 6 лет назад
I always wondered about that. First time I ever saw an m4 I thought to myself " that's a pretty short barrel for a 5.53/.223 rifle.
@willterry6390

They just redesign the 5.56 to get better ballistics from a shorter barrel check out m855a1
@montepr803
@montepr803 6 лет назад
Will Terry This is true, however a day late and a dollar short. All they needed to do was change the projectile. That's it. Any good quality Bonded solid base projectile would have sufficed. Special operations forces already had the "optimized brown tip" which is basically an M262 round topped with a 70gr Barnes triple shock projectile. VERY effective out of SBR's for sure. And not certain but I believe there was a 50gr tsx load aswell that was the cream of the crop in terminal performance out of MK18's. In essence it all boiled down to politics and money that our soldiers lost lives for. All the variants noted above where astronomically cost effective solutions in comparison to the M855A1.

Hickok45. I just have to tell you this. Like so many others, I appreciate your approach to firearms. Primarily, your respect for them. I served as an Armor Captain during the late 1960's, and came to love the newly introduced M-16 (though I remain to this day am more than fond of the M14). Some few months ago I visited a gun show and asked the organizer if he had any need for some hundred-plus rounds of .50 caliber ammo I had. He did, but suggested that if we traded, he could do better with a deal. I had looked through his booth and saw little I liked, and told him that I was mostly interested in military weapons. He nodded and led me straight to a rifle I had missed, a Colt AR 15 Sporter. He said, "Your rounds and $100 and it's a deal. When I stumbled on your site tonight I paused the video at 24:04 and the close up of the model number. I scooted to the gun room and retrieved my rifle and sat back at the computer to compare my rifle with yours. Mine read, "Colt, AR-15 A2, Cal .223, SPORTER II, Sir. SP 311765. That's eighty-eight numbers off. How about that! I will add that my wife's reaction to my running through the living room with an AR in my hand at 8:45 p.m. was a sight to see. Thanks for making my night!

I did switch to the M16 from the M14 and it was like going from a Harley to a go-ped. They turned out to be equal when needed. The M14 and M16 were tools for the same job but at different ranges. M16 for touching up close n such, M14 on the perimeter for touching someone at greater length. Army did adopt using both and they still do.

In 1984 Colt was the only supplier, not the 100 suppliers today. I like retro AR's, mine is an A1 built from a parts kit, built as Colt did. Kept it pristine till it got the first scratch, then I went full on battlefield pick up. I never knew the A2 sportier had A1 rear sights unlike the Hbar 's. Enjoyed the video keep them coming.

Excellent!!!! Back "in the day" 1980, I did not have an AR. Could not afford it if I wanted. Went in the USMC Delayed Entry Program ("Poole") in 1981, anticipating high school graduation in May 1982. Went to drills at Buckley NG Base, east of Denver, for "drills". They let us shoot 9 rounds at the 25 meter BZO target (remember the little silhouette paper target?) Oh man, I was in love. I had been shooting since I was about 8, but this M16 was HOT!!!!! Since then, I have shot the M16/A4/223 for years. Many thousands of rounds. What an almost perfect, lightweight, modular, accurate, reliable firearm. Perfect!!

I qualified every year for twenty one years with just about the same rifle. Ours was the HBAR Sporter Match with a 20" bbl. It looked about like yours only with the round forward assist button and raised ridges around the mag release, and the case deflector. I liked it so much at work that I bought one just like it for home. I usually keep it bone stock but I did buy a 16", flat-top upper with flip-up sights and a flashlight. It's a bit handier for indoor work, but I like the stock HBAR. I'm retired now and sometimes I look back fondly at annual qualification week. Nothing better than getting paid to shoot!

My dream rifle. I'm a huge fan of colts, something about them is just different from any other ar 15. I know they are just as good as any other milspec ar, but I've just always wanted to have an ar-15 A4. Something about colt just screams solid, reliable, and dependable. Maybe they aren't the prettiest things around cosmetically, and certainly not the highest quality, but there's just this vintage look, feel, and smell about the metal in every colt ar you pick up. It just tells you that they're solid and built to last. You just instantly know it's not bs.
