Colt Python (2020 series) needs regular cleaning or timing issues.

Some timing issues I've come across with my Colt Python (new production PY2586XX) and failing to index the cylinder properly. After about 250 rounds of the Federal 158 grain Lead Round Nose .38 Special the action had some serious degradation in reliability with primer strikes not centered. I imagine some cleaning in the surfaces that advance the cylinder will resolve this issue.

I got my Python early march of ‘23 and it’s been great. Only issues after excessive shooting is the release latch like to stick. No biggie, just clean after every session. I only use ballistol with my Python. That stuff cleans it right up.

Yes, you will have to do regular cleaning and proper lubrication of any revolver or these issues will happen period, regardless if you have a pawn shop Taurus Judge or a $5,000 custom shop Korth.

I’ve got 500 rounds through mine. and it’s now where near that dirty. Time to switch your ammo up man

I don’t believe that the original pythons would go out of time after 250 rounds without cleaning

They went out of time pretty fast tho

250 rounds of lead bullets with cleaning will cause problems with many revolvers. I only shoot jacketed rounds, and clean much more than this. Just bring a brass brush to the range, and give it a few swipes every 50-75 rounds of lead ammo.

Thats actually not what I was expecting at all. 250 rounds shouldn't do that to a barrel. Is it low grade ammo because its hella dirty. I would expect that much carbon after 1000 rounds of no cleaning.

That's because those revolvers are made with tight tolerances.

Buys a Python, shoots crappy, dirty lead round nose ammunition then complains when it gets filthy. It's a precision instrument with very tight tolerances. Get a GP100 and it will go a lot longer between cleanings.

Pathetic just like the originals. Any one who had the original pyhtons and actually shot them a lot switched to S&W or Ruger for good reason. I see nothing has changed.

Mine seems to be doing the same thing. After a couple hundred rounds, especially with 357, the timing starts acting up. Not as bad dirty with 38s. I guess the python needs cleaning after 300 rounds of so which kinda of sucks coming from glocks lol does your gun lock up when the timing starts acting up???

What kind of brush would you use to clean the barrel

Currently I use a mop with solvent, followed by a SS Tornado Brush, and finish off with a bore snake.

The issue is crap but for the love of god we all know 38 special mucks up 357 mags. That’s old hat, maybe stop overpaying for name branding, Colts been trash for years now.

Don’t believe the hype and don’t jump on the bandwagon. Smith and Wesson is much more proven than this new thing from Chehoslovakia. Not even American.

You’re so full of crap. Enjoy your Hillary hole smiths. Also, these are produced in the USA. Colt has changed hands as many times as Sellout and Wesson.

They’re manufactured in Hartford, Connecticut so you have no idea what you’re talking about

No offense, but I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. The coal pythons are awesome revolvers but once you’re in order to function to its highest potential, you should clean and lube it regularly you should do that with any guns honestly, it’s like with a car if you don’t put oil in it from time to time what happens?? 😐

Not true. Still American made. Trigger and hammer are forged not mim like a Smith and ever since CZ purchased the company their quality has increased. I have purchased 6 Colts since the acquisition. This gun is tighter tolerance and for a revolver it means cleaning it more often. This happens with many high end revolvers.
