@@resistingdog4601 No any Python you buy now should have the update on it. So there shouldn’t be any issues. Be sure to inspect yours when you get it though. Mine was flawless, I’ve dry fired it maybe thousands of times already and shot 500 .357 magnum and 200 .38 special through it. Not 1 single issue. It’s amazing. My mind was blown recently. I have a new Python and I found one post in a forum that with the Colt cylinder release you have to put the gun vertically and hook your thumb down into the cylinder release slot and with your first thumb knuckle pulling down it releases the cylinder in one fluid motion. It actually makes sense to pull the cylinder release since you are pulling the firearm back to be vertical when you are going to eject the cartridges anyways. Doing it this way is actually more ergonomic for me than with my Smith 29 now. I have been converted. I can't believe it having been a Smith-snob but the Colt is actually a superior design. Especially the new Pythons.

Great job as always on the video. I think you were born to do these videos :-) the gun looks awesome, I finally got my first chance today to see it in a store out here in Oregon where I live. It was unfortunately not the 6 inch barrel version, it was the 4 1/4 inch version. However it felt incredibly balanced in my hand and looked amazing. I think the 4 1/4 inch version would be Easier to carry and it fills my hand up just fine. I have seen a couple other videos on RU-vid of the 4 1/4 inch version and it is accurate quite a ways out, I think that’s the one I will go after. The 6 inch is nice, but I just don’t see myself carrying this gun, except maybe for hunting. Beautiful beautiful gun though

I concur with Allen's comments: Bought one of the first in early 2020. Had a couple of the problems that many were talking about, sent it back to Colt, and now it shoots better than my S&Ws. It's smooth, easy to shoot, and handles magnum rounds well. I carry it as my duty weapon (plain clothed) and will continue to carry it until I retire (sooner than later), unless they come out with a 2.5 or 3"...

I brought one in Royal Blue 6" barrel before my graduation day in 1978. The lay away was $325.00 plus taxes. Took my 2 months to pay it off from my allowance and student workers salary after foods and bills.
@MrSmith-zy2bp
@MrSmith-zy2bp 11 месяцев назад
From the CPI calculator: $325 1978 dollars would be $1,589.59 in 2023 dollars. A 1978 Python was about $200 more expensive than the retail price of 2023 Python in 2023 dollars. That's inflation for you. The prices are hidden.

Excellent review. I agree with everything Allan says. One minor correction to his initial comments. When Colt introduced the Python in 1955 the finish choices were blue or bright nickel. The stainless finish Python was introduced many years later.

I could listen to him read phone books all day long. Allen, if gun sales become illegal and your current business dries up, believe me when I say you have nothing to worry about. Make a move into the audiobook narration business, particularly crime dramas with a lot of guns involved. You'd be a natural.

My 2020 6 inch shoots like a dream. At 10 yards this gun can group them at 3 inches and I’m not the best shooter lol. Sources say the colt R&D dept. is now experimenting with carbon steel on the new pythons. So that means the blued finish python, cobra and anaconda should be making its way to gun shops later this year.

Bought my Python in '78 and for most of my life it was my only handgun. That gun is truly multipurpose. It will blast a deer or tin can with equal ease. I would rec switching those pretty wood grips for rubber ones if you are going to be a shooter. The .357 magnum is not a pussy cat round and it is the original "magnum". They don't often mention the sweet size of a 357 and in particular the Python. Small guns are hard to shoot well and big guns are hard to carry. The Python walks as good a line as you will get between small enough to carry and powerful enough to get the job done. I have a few handguns now... bigger, smaller, autos, and revolvers but the Python remains the favorite. The new Python takes advantage of cnc machining so that "hand fitting" is not necessary. Hand fitting often means none of your parts are the same size so the assembler tries different parts until one fits... in '55 they were building cars that way. You can get a good product that way but it takes a long time to assemble each one. The new Python is not an exact replica it is a better gun. I have a new King Cobra and Colt pretty much put the same trigger in the KC/Python/Anaconda if I understand correctly... "leaf spring". I can tell you the new KC trigger is every bit the equal of my original Python... in fact they feel exactly the same. In the video at about the 6:20 mark you can see where the "smooth" of a Colt trigger really comes up all aces. That double action pull, hold, sight, and fire that you can see in the video. That said I don't own any handguns with a bad trigger and I have Colt, S&W, and Kimber. Python is my second most accurate handgun... a .22 target pistol is #1. I would throw out that there is reasonable opinion that the original Python was weak on handling "hot" 357 loads in large amounts. That played a part in the slight thickening of the top strap. Pretty certain I got that info from Colt but don't quote me there. If you need more power get an Anaconda or 629. My Python never had a problem with factory made .357 and I shot mostly 158 grain bullets. I did have a strong preference for shooting .38 loads for all target/tin can shooting... it is a true target shooter with .38 rounds. Over 40 years I can't tell you how many thousands of rounds my Python has shot... many. It is loaded with .357 in a lock box off my living room at the moment and in a ready to go condition. So anyway I thought I comment based on 40 years of owning what is a very fine multi-purpose handgun. Local store wants $1700 for a new one... and I'm thinking. I'd own it now if I didn't already have a Python. In '78 it was $400.. money well spent.

It may well be a Diamondback made on the smaller Cobra frame, Ventilated barrel rib, full lug, 8 shot cylinder. Likely fully polished stainless 4.25" and 6" barrels lie the Python. I would buy one in an instant. A competitor to the S&W 63. one of which I own. I love my new 4.25" 2020 Python but the rear sight is loose and the single action is gritty. It's accurate though and doesn't kick bad with my full house loads.

Colt is strongly hinting at a New Diamondback with the King Cobra Target model. All you would need to do is make the 4" or 6" barrel a vent rib top (Python style) and put on a set of retro style grips. There is your New Diamondback. In other words, adding a Diamondback would be a very short and simple thing for Colt to do, I am sure it will happen at some point

@@MW-bi1pi Yes - the New Cobra / New King Cobra frame is all ready designed and set up to be evolved into a New Diamondback, just add the vent rib top barrel.

I previously commented (since removed) early Pythons were made in blued or nickel not stainless. AFAIK the first stainless was the S & W model 60 mid 1960’s or so. Colts have had a reputation of going out of time.

He failed to mention the single action is too heavy. Sending my 1500 dollar revolver off for a trigger job.

Actually the original Python in 1955 wasn't offered in stainless . . . it was offered in mirror polished blued steel and nickel plated steel.

I have a 1992 or 93 anaconda and the cylinder release button is junk it does not slide well sometimes the cylinder will not lock, give me a smith any day , i have several of both, my mind tells me the smith is superior ,never could fig why colts demand more money, must make a lot less of them then smith does. If you want a real gun buy the Smith.

You can get them for around $1600 + tax on gun broker. I got one for $1700 and that’s after taxes and shipping.

just think of that for a second... We cant afford to make this product becuase real people have to quality fit and assemble them by hand... Even items that need to be reliable enough to defend lives...Let it sink in.
