Finally had the opportunity to meet up with some folks out at Fir Rd. to do some group agate hunting. The weather was perfect, and it was fun to meet up with some folks that I have only chatted with online.
I had a good find towards the end of the day as well, which made it a great day for me.
Thanks for watching!

That wall, the river bank and islands too! I'd be on that place all week! I know how productive the islands can be in the Tri-State area (IA, IL, WI) of the Mississippi River. We have a 16' jonboat that we take out to the islands with gravel bars and camp during the summer. Rock hound by day and fishing at night. Fresh catfish cakes and camp coffee are a Great way to meet the Sun. I have to agree with #KatyDid. From what I could see in the video, the lack of wood type grain makes those pieces look like some of the bone fragments in my collection. Always a cool find. That was a cool thing that you did when you gave the girls that pet wood. KUDOS Sir! That one kind act of sharing could make a rock hound for Life! Again, Thanks for sharing your trip. As always, Good Luck, Have Fun and Keep on Houndin' Steve...

I actually got to work on those cooling towers your looking at, I love how you can spot them from miles away cause the steam goes so high up into the air. My boss an I got to do some efficiency upgrades to them while a change out of the reactor fuel was being done, they only have one active reactor now that is producing power called the Columbia Generating Station. Was one of the coolest jobs I’ve worked on being only 20 yrs old an not having any formal training or even a high school diploma… I now have got some formal education thanks to Bates tech college and am working towards my own cooling tower company 🤘🏽

It’s a dangerous area but they monitor everything down to the water table with ground water devices to make sure the contaminants don’t further spread an the clean up efforts are going quiet well given the massive task at hand. The men an woman who work their risk their lives to continue the efforts of fixing a very long an ongoing problem caused from miscalculations 60 - 80+ years ago! Happy rock hounding I’m going to have to take a look into this area next time I’m their🤘🏽

Nuclear power is actually pretty clean. Much cleaner than coal or natural gas. The waste is solidified into a form that won’t leak or pollute the water or air around it. So yeah, I think a glass or concrete type substance.

Those holes in the bank that others have dug looks like widowmakers to me. Not much holding that matrix together. What a place to hunt though! I would need a truck to haul my finds. Another good vid. It is nice at times to have other hounds to share with. Havagudun my friend.
@CurrentlyRockhounding
@CurrentlyRockhounding 4 года назад
So the holes that are punched into the wall at this location is actually from how they produced the road. They had a boat with a big water cannon and just sprayed the hill side causing it to slide down and into the river and then the road was cut with a dozer.

Late to the party, but those are nice finds you got out there! I love the translucent golden and orange agates the best, they're just like little gems. As for your agate with green plumes that you show at 19:08, my best guess is that the green mineral might be chlorite. You can also sometimes find inclusions of green chlorite plumes in the quartz crystals over at Hansen. Be on the lookout for them. :)
@CurrentlyRockhounding

what do you know about the way that sequence of sediment has been deposited? It seems like outwash from a river or glacier, well rounded, poorly sorted... The fines seem like glacial flour. I think that how one guy was saying "when you ind one, you find another one close by" might be due to the layers you can see. Some layers are probably more agate-bearing.
