Supporting The Hygiene Program
Councilmembers Nancy Day-Achauer, Shayla Favor, and Christopher L. Wyche are sponsoring Ordinance 1298-2024 to enter into a $43,240 contract with A Step in the Right Direction in support of their Hygiene Program. A Step in the Right Direction focuses on serving historically undeserved communities by addressing health inequalities, family engagement, and workforce development through various programs and resources. The Hygiene Program offers various hygiene and cleaning products to the Westside community. Items can be received via the hygiene free store, the mini hygiene free store in schools and through community outreach.
Continuing the Resident E-Bike Subsidy Program
Councilmember Lourdes Barroso de Padilla and Council President Shannon Hardin are sponsoring Ordinance 1111-2024 to enter into a $500,000 grant agreement with Smart Columbus, LLC to continue the creation of the Resident E-Bike Subsidy Program. The program provides vouchers for residents who are interested in purchasing an e-bike. Residents apply for the program and, once selected to receive a voucher, are able to redeem the voucher at the point of sale. The bike shop would in turn receive that money. The 2023 pilot program was wildly successful with more than 1300 applicants within 24 hours, far more than the number of vouchers available. Nearly 70% of the vouchers from the pilot have been claimed and redeemed.
