as a neutral, the fans are amazing. you arguably wouldn't see that in the prem (or other European leagues). it's amazing. huge respect.

As Seattle fans can tell you, it doesn't hurt when you win two MLS Cups in 4 years. And I think the cheer for the save was support as well as a bit of derision (he had let in four goals by then, including a couple a good MLS keeper would have saved). I would have been pissed at whoever decided not to bother bringing up a backup keeper.

Blame Don Garber for being an asshole and not letting us as well as not having an international break, and blame that idiot Romero for getting a red card.

I also feel for Columbus. But we won off of a poor decision from our opponent. Not by luck.

Clubs used to "get lucky" back when the Sounders had to play during FIFA breaks with 5-6 players missing, so I'm okay with it (and like Cbus, we still won Cups during that time).

Congrats to Seattle.. they played well and deserved the result. The Crew keeper made a catastrophic choice and Seattle made the most of it.. too bad The Crew didn't have a reserve keeper apparently the 4th keeper was injured and couldn't suit up.

Well they really didn’t have a fucking choice man, they have 3 goalkeepers and 2 of them literally are on international duty. And they decide to put a 5’9 zawadski in goal instead of 6’3 jones.

Well it’s entirely Columbus’ fault. They knew coming into this game there was no backup, and their gk proceeded to make a poor decision that could’ve ended in a very bad head injury for Morris. Columbus shot themselves in the foot and everyone is saying Seattle got lucky.

I will be the first crew fan to say this. YES! terrible decision by our GK and he deserved it. Game was still fun though

And what would you think will happen if they make such rule? a) teams will employ one extra goalkeeper? No chance, it's too much money + no goalkeeper would want to be a 4th goalkeeper (virtually no chance of playing) b) if a team has only 1GK available, they would write one of their outfield players on the bench as a GK to a roster for that game to meet this rule, and nothing would change (it could be even worse than now, since now they can just make one of the in-game players to be goalkeeper; with that rule they would have to use a substitution even though it would not give them any advantage) Edit: sure, the teams could keep with this rule by not allowing 2 GKs to go play international matches at the same time, but still, the same situation can happen if 2 GKs are sick/injured at the same time... In the end, this was very poor judgement by Romero, he was way outside his box and practically jumped Morris, hands to the head first. If he knew he's the only goalie of his team, he should not have even risked that.

Two goalkeepers were on call ups and one was injured what are you on about?

In a normal league you would call up a goalie from the reserve or youth teams to be on the bench. How can the "best team" of the MLS, with the "best coach" in the MLS not have a substitute goalie? I dont get it..really. A normal team has 3 or 4 goalkeepers in the squad, plus 3 or 4 in the reserve team (players under the age of 22), and then you have the players from the first junior team (4th division with players under the age of 20). And you can call up any player from these teams to play in the first division team. It is normal to have players from your reserve and youth teams to practice with the first division team. And in moments of urgency you have players to fill the roster!!! For example Aguero. He was 15 years old when he made his debut in the Argentina first division with Independiente, and he was a member of the U20 team.

It's the player's Union, not "tHe LeaGuE" that prevents such mechanisms. Out of fears that the league will take advantage of limitless low-ball xfer capacity.

​@FranciscoGarcia-ze5hg they do have a ton of goalkeepers to Call on except that all of the call ups they're allowed were used earlier in the year due to the large number of games the crew played already this year. Instead of granting a hardship exemption like they've done for other teams the league said "well that sucks. Good luck though."

If we didn't play during international break then we would end up with weeks where teams end up playing THREE games in a week and that would be awful on player health. 2. It gives opportunities for other players to break through when they normally can't and perhaps make their path to become a squad player. 3. It gives people something to watch for people who dislike international break, its the most entertaining league that doesn't stop. 4. We DO NOT need to be similar to what European leagues do to be a successful league. I hope this helps

1: Columbus didn't have a backup goalie on the bench. And that's in part because MLS doesn't follow FIFA schedules and plays matches during international breaks. However, the Crew aren't faultless, they needed to manage their roster better. FIFA doesn't require dressing a backup keeper and the Crew put all their eggs in the basket of begging MLS to bend the rules, when they could have signed someone to a 4-day contract and taken care of the problem. 2. Endangering the safety of your opponent with a challenge is a red card. And since the GK was outside the 18-yard box, he's subject to the same rules as a position player and less benefit of doubt than if he ran down a player in a similar challenge in the box. VAR checked (as they always do for red cards) and didn't find evidence to overturn the call.

If you watch Nancy’s press conference he’s absolutely correct- MLS should have given an exception for a youth call up, but for some reason the league is governing friendly games and preseason matches (?) and making those call ups cost them. Columbus punished for having enough international players to lose most of the starting 11 on a break week, punished for making a final earlier in the season. Congrats to the league on Miami’s shield win i guess

More for dangerous play I believe. There was not a clear and obvious the attacker had a chance on goal. He had already lost possession before getting fouled.

The “decision” to not have a back up gk was actually kinda forced onto the crew. First of all, Shulte was called up to the USA team, Heagan, (2nd gk, played in leagues cup final) was also called up to the Guatemalan national team. The third gk, Bush, broke his arm, then broke his arm again like 3 weeks later, so he might have to retire. So the crew in August got Romero. In total, the crew have 5 goaltenders to put on their roster. 2 of them were called to national duty, one is injured, and we played one. That leaves the 5th one, Johnson. But, he’s on crew 2, so you might ask, why not call him up? Well, they tried. The league, ah yes, everyone’s favorite, decided, just, nah. Ig we have had to pull from crew 2 too much this season already, so we couldn’t anymore? Never heard of that before. Nonetheless, a whole lot of circumstances led to this gk issue. Also, don’t get me started on all the field players missing. Overall, congrats to the Sounders on winning this game. A lot of us crew fans knew this might happen, it just sucks it lost us supporters shield chances.

Columbus Crew has 3 goalkeepers. 2 of them are on national team duty. Today’s gk was the only one available. They could not call up an academy keeper because the LEAGUE did not approve it. Which is why what happen today is totally unacceptable

Yes, the defender got the ball, but he didn't clear it. It was still there to be won. The keeper took out Morris (and his own player) way late - outside the box. It's a red, dude. I feel bad for the Crew and the position they are in... but that is a red.

Notwithstanding that I HAVE seen top PL clubs lose to relegation contenders 😉 MLS is a US-style parity league, specifically engineered to give all clubs a fighting chance (like the NBA, NHL and NFL) - even bending the rules for Miami , they've only won 66% of their matches, because the cap money they're paying to the Barca Squad means there's less to pay for defense (14th in the league in goals against). Columbus was missing Cucho, whose presence would have definitely helped the club to be on the front foot. They really rely on him.
