I remember at Newport, early1960’s on a Sunday morning, Doc. and others like maybe C. Ashley, early in the morning, everyone singing Amazing Grace with someone “lining.” I am 74 years old, never forgot that experience.
i truly wish i would've known a few lifetimes ago that Doc Watson and all this beautiful music existed... making up for lost time now, my most sincere thanks to you for sharing your family with all of us.
That’s why it’s a waste of time to follow current music. Still too much great music to discover over 120 years of recorded music. No way to find it all in one lifetime as it is
I believe Stacey is Doc's nephew. I met him at Clyde Costner's music store in Gastonia NC and asked him how Doc played "Windy and Warm". He said "The last time I picked with him, he played it like this", then proceeded to tear it up. I thought to myself, " Boy, you better pay attention, cause this is as close to the source as you're gonna get." Stacey is b a fine picker.
Man!!! That screen door with the fan sitting next to it just like my parents had when I was 4 years old. Earliest memories from several decades ago. Only difference, the letter was a P instead of a W ;-)
Stacy, Guy Clark's line about The David and The Mona Lisa, holds true in my heart. Doc was a National Treasure, and always will be. For you to know him and play with him... I guess a musician couldn't ask for anything better! Thanks for posting this, it is GREAT!
When I hear one, I think of the other...born about the same time within about 60 miles of each ot her DOC and EARL both set the bars so high, they are the BENCHMARK that everybody else uses as a roadmap
Wow! ...So awesome! ..You are one lucky man Mr. Stacy Thomas...and are also not bad on guitar yourself ! ...GREAT video ! ..Thank you so much for sharing this video !! ..I would have given ANYTHING to sit down and jam with Doc Watson !!! ..to me there is nobody else in the world that could touch him !!
I think this is the best recording on RU-vid. You can hear Docs voice and playing clearer than on any other. Plus the young fellows rhythm playing. Sometimes less is better.
I believe about 10,000 of the views on this video are from me studying it. Not only Docs playing , but Stacy is laying it down. The more I watch this video and study the playing, the more I appreciate it.
My grandma used to chew tobacco, in a house that looked awfully similar to this one. Born and raised in NC is something no amount of gold could ever replace.
I’m a long-term devoted Doc Watson disciple. I’m so sorry I only just now arrived here. Im thankful for the algorithms of RU-vid for getting me here! These are priceless videos. Stacey, it’s wonderful to meet you. Thank you for posting these, and congratulations for your fine relationship with Doc. I’m crazy jealous, but sincerely happy for your experiences and memories, and your talent! You played with Doc! Be well! Now, to dig into more of this great channel….
Remarkable videos. What a treasure. Not just to have these recordings posted, but to have played with Arthel Lane "Doc Watson". And to be a prolific player yourself. It rubbed off in such a natural way
I saw Doc live at the Shakespeare Theater in Stratford Ct. too many years ago to even remember exactly when it was. Merle was supposed to be on the show but Doc said he couldnt make it. I was well before Merle passed. An unforgettable show none the less. That " W" on the door does mean that this was done in Docs home doesnt it?
Stacy, I had heard you could pick and that you were Doc's nephew. Thanks for posting this videos of the two of you. My wife met Doc a few times, saw him play said he was so approachable. Think her ex-husband actually got a harmonica from Doc. Hope you are doing well!
might be the guy that published the song on RU-vid for you to enjoy... he might have responded if you didn't refer to him in the 3rd person... man, i miss Doc Watson and screen doors with those s patterns... yes, the kid is good and probably a grown man by now...
