COM-PAC 23 SAILBOAT, FIRST OVERNIGHT ABOARD AND THERE'S A PROBLEM, IT APPEARS TO BE AN INSIDE JOB!

This is the perfect sailboat to hop on, untie and go. My tight schedule and obligations keep me running. A little time on the water is liquid therapy.
Climb aboard stressed. Let ALL your worries go and step off relaxed.

I owned a Coronado 23, best size for soloing in my opinion. Good luck on your voyages. I had a 4 stroke Mercury 4 hp. And it pushed the boat at hull speed at about half throttle. You don't need a big motor. You can spend a lifetime in the yard preparing, or just drop the boat and go sailing. If it floats then its good enough.

I've done the majority of all my sailing alone. If I got a bigger boat, I think it would stay in the slip like most sailboats. I need a boat that I can grab and go. It needs to be able to take some waves, but also explore the shallows. Then after my fill, tie it up and walk away. Back to work. Thanks for watching.

Great video. I enjoyed it on my TV. Great tip on how to do a low tech auto tiller. But most amazing is your discussion of removing the cabinets above the settee. I'm removing the starboard side due to some fiberglass work I need to do. I let her get wet but its just wet wood. Just a box like you said. So timely!
@smallsailboatbigwater3959
@smallsailboatbigwater3959 Год назад
Hey thanks! If both those boxes can be moved back, a foot of cabin space can be gained. I also need to come up with a better idea for the table. When mine is set up, I have no access to the v-berth. There are other boats in this size range that have open well thought out interiors. I'm jealous. I hope you enjoy your project. I appreciate you watching.

Yep. You must sail her to see what works for you and what modifications you want. Modifications and tinkering is half the fun. New side cabinets will be a great addition.

Yes and I'm slightly shy of putting holes in my boats. When I do, I want to live with it, happily. I'm like that with my cars also. Original as possible. Always thinking of the resale value toward my next one. But I think I'll hold on to this boat for a good long time. Thanks Squally.

Ahh. Smart selfsteering... I will try that this summer on my 24 Hunter. Have to wait two months because the big lake here in Norway is now covered with ice...

Norway, wow! Greetings to you. It's so awesome to hear from sailors from around the world. I appreciate you watching. Sometimes I forgo the bungee and run a line from the tiller through micro blocks around the perimeter of the deck for complete steering control from any place on deck. Solo sailing is like racing. It can teach so much. I hope the Spring thaw arrives soon for you. Thanks.

Lol. I race on a boat with two heads as well! As the only female crew, I also clean the porta potty after long distance races. Happy to have a boat to sail on.

Thank you! When my house sells it will be my part-time home. Has anyone ever lived on a CP23? I lived on my J24, how hard can it be? My new life of a minimalist nomad is finally taking shape. Thanks for watching.

U got me fired up! I’m getting my Compac 23 ready 2 go back in the water after a complete refit! Just pressure washed her & gonna put sum fresh VC17 on the bottom 2morro! Got brand new custom ordered sails coming from Precision Sails! Airtime never looked so good in all her life! Has always sailed well, though! 👍👏

That's awesome man. A refreshed boat with a fresh set of sails, adventure awaits. My sails may be original. They look as vintage as the vessel. I just watched a Precision Sails promo video the other day. The company owner seemed like a genuine guy with a great product. I'll definitely considered buying from them. And now it's Airtime! Thanks.

Thanks Randy! There are some inexpensive ones on Amazon. That's where I got mine. If I get a few years out of it, I'll be happy. I just love the idea of a protected main hatchway/drivers seat. I appreciate it!

Maybe the gap behind the shelf thing is so that you could access the bolts for the rigging if you had to? I just bought a compac 23 and the previous owner took them down as well so I’ve been searching to see what was there. Id say I think you both made the right choice!

Hello, yes the chainplate backing plates and nuts are back there, but if slide the cabinet back a few inches I think I can still access them. I'm currently on the boat for a few nights and every inch counts. It's been the longest, hottest summer I can remember, but the cooler weather is coming and I'm ready to go sailing again.

I've been searching for the right boat for me to sail San Francisco Bay for over a year now. The Com-Pac 23 looks like it could be a great option. Although, I don't think I've seen a single one advertised for sale anywhere in our area.

Hello Mr. Jones. My favorite classified boat page is Sailing Texas. It's not just Texas boats. Boats from all over. I bought my CP16 there. I found my 23 footer on Facebook Marketplace. Sailing S.F. Bay would be amazing. Good luck with your search.

We don't have ethanol free in Brazil Lol, I can guarantee you that it doesn't hurt to use it (of course pure gasoline is always better)
@smallsailboatbigwater3959
@smallsailboatbigwater3959 Год назад
Ethanol in gasoline will gum up a carburetor if it sits too long. I've had it happen and the Honda dealer warned me about it also. Thanks for watching.

What size is your Honda outboard? And is it enough to push it? I have a 77 International 23' sailboat and I'm ready to purchase a outboard. This is why I ask. I was thinking about a 9.9 HP but damn those are very heavy. Any information would be great. Thank you

Hello, You are right. My boat came with an 8 hp and I felt it was too much weight that far aft and more power than needed. I'm really happy with my Honda 5 hp. I've had it up against waves and tidal current and it powers through just fine. Thanks Bill.
@kcmtube
@kcmtube Год назад
Can you explain the steering setup a little better? I see that you have the tiller bungeed to the sides of the cockpit, but I don't get how the line is rigged around the winches so pushing fore and aft translates to steering port and starboard.
@smallsailboatbigwater3959
@smallsailboatbigwater3959 Год назад
I run the setup two different ways. A straight line running the circumference of the deck and the other is the line and bungee way. With the bungee under constant stain it counters the opposite line. I pull it or release it to steer. In the video I believe I was making a course adjustment to port and releasing it turned the boat starboard to reacquire the course. I may have explained it poorly under sail.
