This is for entertainment purposes only, this is not medical advice.
One of the many things i left out in the video is i have 3 (minimum) rolls of medical tape in the kit as well, every single action taken on a patient gets taped up before they get moved. I tried to use the most simple language possible and not get too detailed about any one thing because whats most important is that you bring a little cheat sheet for yourself that tells you indications and contra-indications for all the medicines you'll bring, and that you get some hands-on training by a LICENSED AND CERTIFIED instructor. Above all else, don't bring things you aren't proficient in using, and don't cause more harm than good. What i bring is not what you should bring, it should always be tailored to your skill level and the adventures you go on.
Some things to consider are, if you have pets you may want to invest in a RATS tourniquet, however they are not effective on people. Make sure you have all the emergency medications anyone in your group needs. If your family members have drug allergies write them on something durable in your drug kit for reference.
Above all else, do not make a bad situation worse by losing your composure and freaking out. Being calm cool and collected will do a lot in an emergency situation.
For medical supplies/first aid kits i recommend mymedic.com/
I am in no way sponsored or associated with the company in the slightest, i just think they have great products. There are a lot of really bad medical kits on the market, especially the ones that sponsor most of the overland influencers, so just do your research first and don't believe what you hear on RU-vid/Instagram, especially from me.

I'm a PCP (Primary Care Paramedic), I worked in a remote area where I would do sutures but most of the time if the patient wasn't concerned with scaring I'd just use a skin stapler (if it was in an area I could use it on). I carry several disposable skin staplers and a few suture kits as well as xylocaine that has 1% epi in it. Skin staplers run about $15 Canadian so there very affordable for single use applications.

I am a rual EMT in the western US and I operate frequently on and EMS crew. If we need to apply a tourniquet to someone we cut of their clothes then apply the tourniquet and the hospital does the same. We also give 2 verbal reports (1 over the radio and 1 in person) so this critical information is always passed on. A blood pressure cuff is also extremely important, if a blood pressure is dropping low that tell us as EMS professionals that we need to expedite transport to the nearest hospital or our patient will most likely die, on top of a blood pressure cuff a stethoscope is vital to preform a manual airway and a stethoscope is also used to check if our patient has a clasped lung then in turn tells us to expedite our transport.

Primary care KNOWLEDGE is the best "item" you can have in your kit. As an EMT/Ski Patroller (especially as a Nordic Patroller, kilometers from the XC First Aid room) I carried a LOT of FA gear in my large fanny pack. As an aging backpacker I carry a 10 oz. kit of mainly meds and a few types of bandages for Expected injuries. For more serious injuries I carry my FA KNOWLEDGE. i.e For a broken arm or clavicle I safety pin the patient's shirt sleeve to their shirt front as a "sling". No cravat needed.

Ida gree on most parts. For me, as a solo backpack hunter and former EMT, I carry a pretty light kit. Israeli bandage, quick clot gauze, two tourniquets, some duct tape, and some ibuprofen and an inhaler. Basically, I'm I'm not going to die that very moment from a gunshot or bear attack, or it's not a maintenance med or for achy joints, I'm getting out of there. If I have poo-pants problems, I'm calling the hunt quits.

I've been saying i need to get some of those booklets you mention for years, but keep forgetting. This is a good reminder. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

so yeah, this video is a year old now don't know if you will read this comment but thanks for everything. kinda glad i have 3 orange tourniquets, lol. and thanks for the tip about the hot hand warmers taped to the IV bags. that tidbit of info made the video for me, and i will try it this weekend. not on a real person, just hanging a bag on a stick and seeing how well it warms up. thanks for sharing your knowledge and your service.

Setup for the medical stuff is super key. Even just taking the torniquets out of their wrapper and putting the little bunny ears on the Emergency Trauma Bandages will help a ton. As soon as your hands get slippery and you start fiddling with your kit just to try and get it open it tends to snowball downhill from there, making a bad situation worse.

The most bizarre trope in the pre-hospital/combat medic community is to believe that nurses and doctors won't see that a black tourniquet has been put on a leg or an arm. I don't know where that comes from. Do they believe that patients keep their country dance boots, flannel shirts and cowboy jeans on when they get handed over to nurses in a civilian hospital? If nurses miss a giant tourniquet on an arm, what else are they missing?

Whomever told you an I/O in the sternum doesn't hurt that bad... they're an asshole. EDIT: informational and entertaining. It's amazing how many things you just reminded me of that I'd forgotten since getting out. Subbed dawg. "... I think I still this from an SF guy..." lollll EDIT EDIT: Please don't tell tell civilians that a needle D is "just a prick." Lmao. It's more complicated than that. A bunch of larpers are gonna go out and buy them, and at the slightest sign that someone is is experiencing tension pneumo (when in actuality, it's a non-tension pneumothorax), they're gonna stab them in the ribcage and puncture a lung. How many of fellow our soldiers and Marines had unsuccessful or traumatic attempts by medics and Corpsmen under stress? An untrained civies is bound to do the same thing.
