My dad was A WW2 veteran of the Italian campaign. 36th Division Company M heavy weapons platoon. I grew up totally obsessed with WW2 and this show. He would watch it with me and I would ask questions which he would answer but only in vague terms. Later on in life he became much more open about it to me (no one else in the family was interested). He was my hero. We lost him in 2001 and I miss him every day.

All here were great. Born in 1959 so both theme song and opening graphics triggers deep memories, instantly rocketing me back to ... 1963? 4 years old but I watched a LOT of these as it went on. Again the title animation is triggering smells of childhood living rooms (I heard that) and a now-indescribable atmosphere of all that in the past. Coburn always a fav, first knowing him as the unflappable Flint. Good posting.

Episode 3 of season 2 and another hugely important facet of Sergeant Saunder's character as portrayed by Vic Morrow comes through plain as day: a sixth sense, a Crystal ball, call it what you will that allows him to see through smoke screens as credible as they may seem that he cannot buy. It works both ways. True honesty and integrity, he senses it right away. The opposite, he picks up on little by little until it sews doubt in his mind and he begins asking questions. Even Lieutenant Hanley at one point checks with Battalion. I happen to know someone very much like the character that Vic Morrow plays and it is truly uncanny how true to life Vic Morrow's "personnage" is. No sucker him or such people. Man or Woman, it makes no difference even though such a Woman, people find her as having "masculin" (very strong qualities) Both the writing and Vic Morrow's portrayal bring out a very real human being. Merci pour le téléchargement.

Combat always had great stories. Watched this show many times. After my Army days I found hundreds of ways to find to have suspicion of the unconvincing stories the Germans made. Even the Sargent thought the use of hubba-hubba was odd. Number one he repeated he wanted to go to Battalion. Then he said four numbers that meant nothing. What Battalion? Should have said he needed to go to the TOC. The Tactical Operations Center. Each Battalion in a Regiment has a number. Should have had a Division patch on the left shoulder. Say if he had the Division patch of the 3rd Infantry Division, but, he's in the 4th Armored Division area. And the 3rd Infantry Division is 800 miles away. Going to be real hard to convince anybody with that. At position 10:14 the Lieutenant responded with "a cup of Java." After the Sargent offered a cup of coffee. Should have responded with "a cup of Joe" instead. Yes a cup of is a cup of coffee, but, Americans don't use Java. He could have even said "a cup of high test." Coffee is either with caffeine or decaffeinated. Caffeine coffee is "high test" and decaffeinated is "unleaded." I reference to grades of gasoline. Decades ago all gasoline had tetraethyl lead. In the 1970's to 1980's the lead was gradually removed. No longer available today. The High test gasoline had the highest octane rating. As more automobiles became available to run on unleaded gasoline. The term unleaded was used to describe gasoline without lead. High test and unleaded became a interesting way to describe coffee. They did have unleaded automobiles during the WW-2 era. Just two of the many ways for me to see right through the German spy's attempt to appear to be American.

Hi, yes I know what you mean, but for me this episode was about cowards, (especially James Coburn's character) dressed up as US troops killing other US troops, like the Ambulance driver and the last US soldier on the hill, rather than any "battle", etc. I totally understand why they executed any German soldiers who wore US uniforms during the Battle of the Bulge, as there's something very "dirty" about it, they don't get treated as POW's.

Rocky Marciano was the only undefeated boxing champion in any weight division (until Joe Calzaghe retired 46-0 in 2009). At the end of his career he was 49-0, with 43 of his victories coming by knockouts. Rocky made his boxing debut in 1947 at the age of 24 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, by knocking out Lee Epperson in the third round. He went on to fight such legends as Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott. On September 23, 1952, in Philadelphia, Marciano KO'd Walcott in the 13th round to win the Heavyweight Championship of the World. He fought his last boxing match on September 21, 1955, knocking out "The Mongoose" Archie Moore in the ninth round at Yankee Stadium. He announced his retirement on April 27, 1956. On August 31st, 1969--the eve of his 46th birthday - Marciano was killed in an airplane crash. Although he's been gone more than 30 years, he's still revered today as one of the greatest fighters in the sport. His cameo appearance, uncredited, soldier meeting ambulance.

What a plot--German imposters trying to find Sgt. Saunder's Bn Hq. Germans did indeed masquerade as American soldiers in Europe in WW2. Nevertheless, Sgt. Saunders had them pegged early on and managed to stop the last one. As always, every episode delivers, from start to finish.

To those who didn't get the "suckers" remark by Saunders at the end: It's the flip side of the trusting quality of Americans, that the dead character of Coburn had just derided. Germans were much too skeptical to be taken in, Coburn suggested, but that trustfulness is also the quality that saves Saunders when he can't speak. So sarcasm, the good kind.

if germans were to skeptical to be taken in, then how did a one nutted paper hanger from austria talk them all into starting another world war? hitler smooth talked enough of them into following him to nearly destroy their whole country and to still have a lot of hatred toward them from all over the world today.

A really well made show. I absolutely loved it as a kid. It attracted the biggest stars of the day as guest stars. I always really liked Vick Morrow. Such a shame he was killed filming a war scene. It's like he came full circle. I was raised by a generation of WWII veterans. Any war stories they told were about anything but combat.

Here we go again. Saunders belt with his 1911, canteen, ect; is taken but he does not retrieve it before escape/evasion. WTF?. Coburn: Masterful and unique actor, as always, a pleasure to watch onscreen...RIP

This was TV at one of its greatest periods. Add in all the westerns of the 50s and 60s as well as the cop shows and it beats the crap out of what's on TV nowadays hands down. We didn't know how good we had it and who would of thought our whole country would have sunk to the level it's at.
