I don't remember seeing this episode back in 1960s. American actor Claude Atkins played a kraut infiltrator twice, once in this episode Combat! and in Suspense Theatre during 1963-65. He's to good of a man to be playing those phony's.
Finally an actor (the german offizier in german uniform I mean) that speaks german like a german. Problem with many actors is that they lived for years in the states and speak german like a schoolkid from the us. For me as german that takes the illusion, just like a japanes speaking english for english speaking audience listening. :)
+Bob Williams i wasnt referring to the order of the shows but the 2nd show i saw him in. i may have been mistaken about the being a german part. i checked the wik/pid. Akins was in 3 Combat episodes. S4E22 feb. 1966, S5E3ask me no questions. S5E3 sept 1966, Ollie Joe. and S5E23 feb 1967, Nightmare on the Red Ball Run. i watched most episodes when they aired and at the end of last year and first of this year i watched them all again. i dont remember now, was he a German twice? oh, check my videos, i have a weapon that "nearly" portrays the tommy gun, sort of, in 9mm, or other, well its cool.
I liked those episodes. There were a lot of German soldieres and officers speaking fluently American and British English also French due to family connections, vacations and often the way schooling was done. Some Boarding Schools had naturql speaking instructors using all day their mother tongue with their pupils and students. That way my grandmother had learned her almost perfect French for example. Also there were many immigrants comming back to Germany with their families when the War started. So their kids having grown up State side ofteh know American English ans well as German and also the local lingo and culture in their old home region were thay had grown up for the first part of their lives. So here is teally some realism in those episodes telling about Imposters claiming to be American Soldiers and Officers.
I cant figure out why they used that mocked up Reisling for a MP40 in so many episodes. You never see it fire...strictly a prop. Maybe it was for safety reasons.
In this case you might be interested in LandumC goes there - report on COMBAT ! on RU-vid. Why this COMBAT TV SHOW-star, almost did 20 years in LEAVENWOTH!, on RU-vid.
Love this series, since I grew up with it. But you gotta admit this episode is pretty ludicrous. We've already established in the 4 previous years the Germans can't shoot straight, love to run into a hail of bullets and are terrible aren't safekeeping POW's.
