Here is "Combes," a more percussive soundscape than my usual calm and serene pieces. In this one the pulsating beats mix with grainy drones, and space-inspired blips and blops to create an immersive auditory experience.
At the heart of "Combes" lies the Cloud Terrarium module, set to noise crackle mode, creating a dynamic backdrop of texture and melody. The resulting noise is filtered to produce notes that dance unpredictably across the stereo field, adding depth and movement to the composition. These elements are further enhanced by the ping pong delay of Veno Echo, creating a sense of space and dimension.
The drone elements are a synthesis of the 4ms Ensemble and Chords v2 modules, with the volume of each oscillator modulated by LFOs, resulting in a rich, evolving soundscape that shifts and evolves throughout the piece. As the composition progresses, the sound gradually transforms from mono to faux stereo, courtesy of Xaoc Minsc, adding a sense of spatial depth and immersion.
Andrew Huang's Ghost adds a touch of distortion and filtering, lending a gritty edge to the sound, while also serving as a dynamic sidechain for the first half of the track, creating pulsating rhythms that ebb and flow in tandem with the beat. As the piece unfolds, the sidechain is released, allowing for a more constant, enveloping sound that washes over the listener in waves of sonic bliss.
Meanwhile, the melodic elements of "Combes" are provided by a looping melody from the OP-1 and a mashed-up voice from the Pearlcorder microcassette, processed through Mutable Instruments Beads for added texture and depth. The rhythmic backbone of the track is driven by clock signals from Pam's New Workout, with kicks and snares from Pico Drums and high hats from Plaits, and the last percussive sounds from Rings.
