Finally someone bold enough to unlock the reality of the CAGED system. A system where too much time is spent on learning chord shapes you probably won’t use. This is a perfect example from Brian where all you need is an understanding of triad inversions, partial chord structures and relative chord tones in position. Please expand on this concept Brian and thanks for sharing the ‘key’. 👍

I have been following Brian for over 8 months now and find that he is extremely well organized and a very good teacher. He is down to earth and has a very well organized teaching style with all the info you require. More than any other info that I have seen where other simply explain, Brian explains and then shows with all the follow up information you will require for the lesson. Thanks Brian! I really enjoy your sessions.

This channel has really helped move me into working with triads and not being tied to full chords. Really great.

This is what I've been practicing. 1-4 chords and pentatonic scale. Trying to play music alone, no loop pedal. Trying to improvise different triads, whole chords of 1 & 4 while mixing pentatonic until something clicks and I can freely jam with those three things seamlessly.

I've never seen a video address this before. This is a musical revelation that I feel other instructors don't want to reveal easily. This is how to play a chord tone mixing major AND minor pentatonic for a really dynamic and musical sound. Before I would just play pentatonic and guess which other notes to add!

This confirmed a lot of things I've discovered on myself but didn't know if I should continue to use them. The C and D shape mainly, I noticed that the D shape is just a part of the C, and also the bar for the G is part of the A shape.

Yes. This is very good, extremely helpful! Thanks, Brian! Once again, making a breakthrough by showing us how scales relate to chords! (I agree with your assessment of there being only 3 CAGED chords, cuz the C/D and A/G overlap. I've thought that as well.) Oh, yeah! 👍 👌

I don’t have an electric guitar so I just slide up to the notes that I can’t bend, and give it some vibrato. I’ve learnt to do that through doing your lessons. Yeh! 🎶💃🎶💃🎶

Use strings of size 10 on your acustic for bending.

Vladimir Naumenko thank you for your suggestions, although I’m a little hesitant to go one size smaller because I’ve been trying to build up the strength in my hand 🤔🙂
@vlnau7926
@vlnau7926 4 года назад
This is not a gym apparatus) Your goal is a clean and comfortable sound-production without any noise or cracking. 1-2 hours everyday playing will strength your hand and improve your skills. Almost everything from Brian you can play on acoustic guitar with 10th size strings but you have to change strings every month after bending on 3rd string, it wears out first of all. Often just sliding can not replace bending. So learn it and your playing will be more bluesy.
@annie4971

I struggled trying to memorize pent patterns... a couple years ago I spent time playing the same chord in all 5 shapes until I could see/feel where they were in relation to each other. Then I learned and practiced both maj and min pent over each chord shape. Bingo! I now refuse to refer to them as pattern numbers... not useful while playing. Its E shape minor, or D shape maj, etc etc. Its important to understand where the 1-3-5 are when learning the chord shapes. Then understand the intervals the pentatonic overlays. Then your only 2 notes away from adding the maj or min scale in each shape. To me its vital that patterns be connected to chord shapes so you can call them up instantly while playing, rather than translating pattern numbers to chords...

So then is pentatonic major and minor c shape the same as a c and c minor shape chord tone.?

I know you’re the teacher, and I’m the student, but where you are saying it’s the “G Major Pentatonic position “4” , it’s looking to me like it’s the “G Major Pentatonic position “3”. I may be wrong but I’m thinking maybe that number is inaccurate, however I do stand down here. Maybe I’m missing something, and I’m wrong, but for the life of me I can’t resolve it. I have run across mistakes in lessons before and it can really drive you crazy when you’re learning. So like I say, if I’m wrong please clarify. Thanks
@activemelody
@activemelody 2 года назад
The numbers can be different . And honestly are irrelevant. As long as you can find the 5 notes of the pentatonic scale you’re good
