Fantastic photography. Thanks so much for making these guides! Just for fun, the insect at 2:32 is a thrips rather than a springtail, another very small arthropod that is usually associated with flowers (as you show).

Another fascinating and well researched video Peter.👍 I loved all the info on the springtails. Lichen and fungus shots were great too and as we head into Autumn here in the UK it serves as a good reminder to get my own Raynox out and do some Macro shots in the coming months.

Just absolutely fantastic again Peter It’s like watching a Sconce Fiction film in 3D You have become an expert in this field - and some of the facts are just mind blowing!! The fungi shots are wonderful. The dewdrops on the spines is a brilliant capture. But all of this film captivates and engages us. You are a star mate. Seriously so so good!!

Hey Schlomo. Thanks a lot. I sometimes don’t include exposure settings, but in more than a hundred videos of mine you can see what range I usually work with on different setups ( e.g. with the Canon 100mm/Raynox combo I use f/14, An ISO range of 100-400 and shutter speed varies between 1/80-1/160 usually. ) Have a great week! I've really been enjoying your videos! Mind if I ask a few questions? I've been doing some hunting for info and would really like to hear your perspective as well. With your full frame camera + 100mm macro + raynox 250, what would you estimate is your magnification (assume >1:1, maybe 1.4:1?)? How close do you need to be to your subject for that (~10-15cm from the end of lens to subject?)? Any idea what that field of view would be (~20-30mm?)? Any vignetting when using that setup?
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto 2 года назад
Hey mate. Thank you so much, very kind of you. I can’t remember the exact magnification ratio with the DCR-250 and how much the working distance is decreased ( the minimum focus distance is approximately halved ( 15cm or so ) but you’re pretty much spot on I think with your estimation re the increase in Magnification Ratio as well ( around 1.4x-1.5x or so ). I’ve got a video comparing the Laowa 25mm vs the Canon + DCR250 combo and if I remember correctly, it was around that figure. The vignetting is negligible, it only starts to affect the image at longer focal lengths ( e.g 400 on a tele zoom😀 ). Recently i’ve been using the Nisi 58mm snap on lens on the 100mm macro, the image quality is great. I’ll do a comparison between those two close up lenses in the near future. Have a great day. Cheers
@pmerc3
@pmerc3 2 года назад
@@peterviragphoto Thank you very much for the reply. Those other options are also something I'm considering. With a full frame camera, would you think the image quality is better with the 100mm macro + Raynox, 100mm macro + Nisi, or the Laowa? I've read (*and watches some videos) showing mixed reviews especially with the Laowa after f5.6-f8. Would be greatly interested in your assessment and experience with the various setups.
@peterviragphoto
@peterviragphoto 2 года назад
@@pmerc3 I’ve got several videos in the review/ macro playlist where I compare the image quality of those setups. Feel free to have a look. Right now I prefer to use the 100mm with the 58mm close up lens from Nisi, you should check out that review as well. I’ve never had issues in terms of image quality with the Raynox but in my opinion it is slightly worse than the Nisi combo with the 100mm, especially with the limited range of working distance between the maximum and minimum magnification. The Laowa is very sharp up to f/5.6 but then you have to start stacking. You can get away with f/11 at the base magnification of 2.5x but in the field I’d mostly use it at f/8 between 2.5-4x MR. Cheers
