I'm very impressed by these photographs and would like to be able to get similar results. The higher magnification images are what I'd like to do. I'm thinking of getting the Raynox dcr250 to couple with my Canon 100mm macro. Does it matter if a Canon mirrorless, full frame DSLR, or a APS-C is used?
Thanks a lot, I’ve used all three before and it doesn’t really matter but the best results so far for me have been with the R7 because of the higher MP count and better noise reduction levels( in camera ). Cheers
Fascinating photos and technique! I am curious about your flash diffuser system; it looks very effective. I've taken photos of various insects in my apartment using a Vello reflector with the flash off camera but that requires holding the camera with one hand.
@@ajk2749 thanks a lot mate. The diffuser/reflector kit that I’ve been using was made by a small aussie business that shut down about two years ago so unfortunately can’t send you a link. I recommend you check out Cygnustech or AK Diffuser. Cheers
@@peterviragphoto Thank you very much. I see some items for sale on eBay as well as Amazon which I'll look into. Now I just need to take a class in Biology to learn what I'm looking at! Cheers to you too!
This is very cool! I am an artist working on a project, and i wanted to learn more about them since my project contains a magpie, this is beautiful and helped me, thank you!
Hi! I am so glad I found your review. It is very comprehensive for me, thank you! My question is, if I use the 58mm version on my Canon 100mm macro vs the 77mm version what will be the difference in the images I can create? At this time I want to get the 58mm one to try on my Canon 50mm f1.4. I love this 50mm lens because of how wide open it can get and I want to see what the close up filter can do on it. But I dont mind getting the 77mm one as well if it provides significant additional advantages. Thank you!
Hi Smita. If I could recommend one closeup lens at this stage I’d go for the 49mm Nisi one to maximise magnification and essentially double to 2:1 instead of the 77 mm and I really like that setup and I usually pair it with my Laowa 90mm as well. Cheers
@@peterviragphoto Thank you so much!! When you use the smaller diameter close-up filter on the larger diameter lens face is there loss of light or some image quality? Do you need to compensate in some way? Just for my clarification. Thanks!
Vignetting is very negligible, e.g. on the Laowa 90mm which has 67mm filter size too, I never have to adjust much in post and the sharpness doesn’t suffer. Cheers
I don’t think so. I’ve seen some unscientific claims, but even if it’s lower than 400mm, I’d say it would be more like 395mm rather than 320…that would be absurd. Cheers
Thank you. I like this lens. Hard time to decide between it and an EF 100 F2.8 L macro. I can get either for about the same amount. Canon has stabilisation and AF. Laowa has 2x and RF mount. .... Decisions
If you want to use the AF then it can definitely come handy especially for videos but for stills most of the time I recommend MF, especially when shooting at 1x and beyond when focus stacking is necessary. Both of them have excellent image quality and sharpness though. Good luck with whichever choose, but you’ll be happy with either I’m sure. Cheers
Hello, In trying to educate myself in macro photography I’ve just recently come across your wonderful videos. I likely will have more questions as I progress in this field but first I would like to know about your flash defuser set up. It may be detailed somewhere but I’ve not come across it. Would you please tell me what it is and where I can get it? Thank you so much! 😊
Hi Karina. Yes I do have a videoabout my diffuser/reflector kit but unfortunately the small business that used to make them shut down a while ago. I recommend you look at either cygnustech or AK Diffuser.cheers:)
Amazing images again mate. So many beautiful creatures out there. Absolutely love the Australian Jumping Spider Have a great weekend mate. And safe trip to Europe 👍👍
Beautiful images Peter, often its hard to get a sense of scale but I notice that one of your spider images looks to be on your fingernail which throws the tiny size into perspective 😀
Helpful video. Nice to hear that you feel the build quality is excellent. I have one on backorder from Nisi and very much looking forward to playing around with it. Thanks for making this video.
They sound like a more tuneful version of the old dial-up Internet connection noise! 😂😂 Such beautiful birbs though. We have slightly different (no less beautiful though) Magpies here in the UK 😊
Another wonderful vid Peter. Loved that ghostly Crab Spider and the amazing soundtrack too. You have so many incredible and beautiful little creatures in Australia. No where as many colourful ones here Hope you’re doing well mate. 👍👍
Hey mate, thanks a lot! All good here, flying back to Hungary in a couple of days to visit family😉. Hope you both have been well! Have a great weekend!:)
Some cool little critters in there Peter, I think my favourites are the purple beetle at the start with the wild antennas and the piggybacking yellow beetles in the middle one of them seems very focused and the other not so much 😀
I saw this insect as a child, growing up in did came in my mind over the years Wondering if i hallucinated it in my head, questioning my sanity through all the year for so very long because of how much alien it look wondering if I'll ever know of it was real or not. Than today i had a glimpse of something walking over the road, i had a feeling in my heart that it is the magnificent creature I've been searching for so long and a fine google image search finally put and end to my lasting doubt. It was it and it was as ugly and wired as i remembered it. And thus comes the end of my journey where i can finally rest and sleep in peace in the night. Farewell cricket mole, farewell bizarre and ugly creature. Now I'm my body and mind are free as you are.
Great bird shots, way better than I ever achieved. I've had this since 2015, it is my favourite lens by far When I do up the screw on the tripod collar it is rock solid, never loose in nine years. With my ordinary cameras it's no use in low light. Mine goes back into the bag when the sun goes down. But if your camera handles like ISO25,600, you may do well. Enjoy
@@jamiefenner9443 thanks a lot Jamie! I love this lens too. Luckily even in low light you can use relatively high ISO with today’s mirrorless bodies & also noise reduction via post processing has come a long way. Have a great week!😉
