nowayto isOP I already splurged on Devastator around the time I was also hoping to get Defensor, and I wound up just not having enough money for both. I think he's one of the best out of this series, but I may just get Victorion.
I live in NZ, we don't get a lot of variety in our local stores in Transformers any more. I've managed to get Hot Spot from the local store but not the rest of Defensor. I cannot afford to get the rest from places like BBTS, due to being on a limited budget, and I have to put things on lay-byes and pay them off to get them.
Humorously enough, my first reaction to the color scheme was "DEAR GOD WHY!?!?!" However, the color scheme grows on you, and it's actually earned a spot on my shelf because it did what they should have done throughout the series: Give each team a distinct weapon that can be combined for the combiner's weapon. What I would have given to see each voyager have a weapon base and have the limbs have weapons that, while intended to be plugged into a specific voyager's weapon, can be mixed and matched with others in the series to allow us to create our own weapons.
It's always great to hear a reviewer's point of view, especially your's, emgo, because you tell it as it is. Will you do another q and a or your thoughts on stuff again, aside from emgo builds stuff?
Was actually watching this playlist right before the holidays. With the green and red color scheme and length if all the videos I'm making thus my EmGo holiday special!
I'd like to see a fanmade Headmaster for Titans Return. We got a fanmade normal transformer for the main Generations line, we got a fanmade combiner for Combiner Wars, so a fanmade Headmaster for Titans Return would make sense.
Every one of Victorion's components has Cybertronic tampographs in her vehicle mode, which read: IF CYBERTRON BE YOUR HOME (Pyra Magna) FAR AWAY NEVER ROAM (Rust Dust) HEAR MY MESSAGE LISTEN AND FEAR (Skyburst) DANGER COMES THE END IS NEAR (Stormclash) JUST LIKE US YOU SOON WILL RUST (Dust Up) ALL SHALL BE TURNED TO DUST (Jumpstream)
Rust Dust makes a troublesome bust. Great reviews. I do agree that this fan-built thing is an excellent idea. I'm getting this set because this brand (and my shelf) needs more female characters.
Read the Combiner Hunters comic a hour ago or two & they had the helicopters as an arm - if not both arms - & had her used their propellers as spinning arm shield weapons.
Awesome review! Poor Waspinator! He should try DeceptiMatch.com to find his Fembot.... or even have him appear on a Transformers version of "The Dating Game"
My opinion on this is, i love the fan built stuff, i want to see more and more fan built items in the future, and who knows maybe hasbro will release a second version of this set with an improved color scheme
Yeah, I really want to support the fan-built stuff too. Windblade has turned out pretty well and Victorion is on her way to turning out well too. I also support getting more female Transformers period, which is another reason why I wanna get this set.
I think my problem with Combiner Wars is that aside from maybe the Voyagers and Leaders I don't think i would buy most of the figures separately. A few standouts, but like after buying a 4 limbs of your choosing, the amount of repaints, all in the same line, just kinda kills it. A good solid series, but like, this is one line I can say I have no regrets for missing out on some characters. Sorry Prowl. You did it to yourself.
3:00 After looking at the figure, there's a way that can help tighten up that connection, and it relies on you getting the shins behind the red tabs on the arm, then using the torso joints as a form of friction tightener, as you're essentially using the pressure created (or releived) by the rotating torso to cause the shins to push on the arms, which helps tighten the connection. Be aware that applying too much force to the tabs can break the figure, so do this gently. Yes, it leaves the red tabs visible, but it also helps keep Rust Dust in place, at least from my experience. I wouldn't advise that for heavy play, however.
Great review, Emgo. I agree with many of your opinions about combiner wars and the fan built Transformers. Just wondering, will you be getting Mastermind Creations Jaegertron(Lockdown) or their Carnifex(Overlord)?
After I get the unite Warriors Bruticus I'm going to be done with combiner wars. I may get the box set Lio Kaiser so I just need to see some official pictures first.
I admit, the idea of this combiner got my attention. I was hoping from some awesome new combiner, but now owning this one. I kind of like it. You right though, I would have loved a different paint scheme. Maybe a really dark maroon with that green would have been better?
Hey Emgo will you be getting the Computron set if and when it comes out? (Little story of my own now lol) I will because the first transformers you I ever got as a child was Scattershot and he has a special place in my heart. Also I think Afterburner and Strafe look pretty interesting too
I totally agree with your ramblings about how the Combiner Wars line progressed. It was awesome when it started, but the first two waves were the only ones with all new molds. Starting with Defensor, we only got one or two new molds per wave (if that - looking at you Optimus Maximus) and then repaints and/or retools. Even so, they are still fun and I'm happy to have them but I'm ready for Titan Wars (so we can all start complaining about all the headmasters. Yay.)
One of those clear plastic hair bands you can buy at walmart in like a box of I want to say 300 for like $2 will fix that relatively easily. Those things got a lot of simple fix uses.
Thanks for the awesome review. Wish they would have used silverbolt for the body, alpha bravo for the arms, and the formula one "sorry forgot name" mold got the legs. Definitely would have made her look more like a her.
Like others have stated...please, PLEASE let us know the next time that fan-built voting happens. Also, I'm genuinely curious what figure in the Combiner Wars has ended up being your favorite thus far. For me, it's been a toss up between CW Optimus Prime (I really liked the thicker beefier Prime) and the CW Ultra Magnus (I liked the G1 inspired style it has). Favorite Combiner was hands down Devastator, though I also really liked the Takara version of Menasor.
The blade of her sword really reminds me of Diablo 3, more specifically the aesthetic they got going in the High Heavens. The sword would fit right in with the other angelic weapons.
Hey I would appreciate everyone's opinion on Combiner Wars. I saw on Amazon the Bruticus box set done in the G1 colors. Do you think it's worth the price or am I better off buying the individual toys separate? I want to buy at least 1 combiner wars toy and feel like its a toss up between Bruticus or Victorion.
By the by, all the promo images for Defensor also had Groove hooked onto his chest up-side-down. Not sure what the deal is with that, confused the shit out me when I first got it, but it seems like just another case of Hasbro not knowing how their own toys are designed to work. :P
Combiner wars I only got superion menasor bruticus wheel jack and prowl after Computron I am done with combiner wars but I loved the line and can't wait for titans return. Awesome review you rock
I was going too get him but no stores near me had him and then I got bruticus and I said to myself I don't really care about him and bruticus has almost all the same molds so I said I'll save some money I might still get him maybe
It sucks that it was a large amount of repaints, but I didn't really mind that since it had so many possibilities with combinations. It's the Canadian releases that got me down. We're still on battle core Optimus! And seeing everyone on the internet with their bruticuses and they're sky reigns and their victorians has kinda killed it for me. My biggest fear is that they'll just skip a bunch to try and catch up, and leave me to have to order everything online (Which is super expensive, since shipping in Canada is murder!) Anywho, thank you for reviewing this line, it gave me a good preview of what was to come :)
For your rambling part, I barely got in the Combiner Wars Transformers, and I will stick to only 3 big combiner : Victorion, Optimus Maximus and Superion (the box set with all the recolors) Simply because they were kinda different. So unless they're making a new combiner or at LEAST a new way to transform the chest piece, then I might consider it
Maybe hasbro should release uncolored individually molded parts so we can mix and match and create our own custom figure. Like just head remolds or arm remold replacements and then just pop them into your figure.
Hey Emgo, I totally understand where you are coming from in your rant about GCW. I was also a bit upset that after Superion and Menasor it was all repaints. Now I too have all the deluxe waves and the G1 Combiners with their proper G1 configuration e.g. the repaints of Slingshot and wild rider with superion and mentor and my deluxe groove is on its way; but at the end of the day GCW was mainly repaint wars give or take a heavy retool e.g. Rook being remoulded into Swindle not like you put on a new head and different colour scheme and call it a new figure. Anyway I actually enjoyed Combiner wars since this was my first time with combiners since I don't have enough to afford a 3rd party combiner. And thats pretty much my opinion on the CW line as a whole- it was exciting and fun for the first two waves but after the defender wave it got stale and boring. Also do you have any plans on reviewing the CW Computron boxset thats happening later on in the year (its the first combiner that has the original team with no replacement members XD) and the 3rd party Seacon combiner??
Hey emgo, you know that you can put rust dust on upside down, right. There is actually a conveniently placed peg on the chest of the combiner that can plug into rust dust's butt for a much more secure connection...if you don't mind an upside down autobot symbol
Nice rewiev dude I liked it. I also dig your maskot and his coments to the line. But I do wonder about something and I have for a time though. Why are Megs and Prime so hung up on Buritos and Pizza bagels? Other than that love your work so please please PLEASE!!!!! keep it up.
Shuraking vs Feral Rex, Posiedon, Dinoking and Devestator. Prometheus vs Warbotron . Uranos vs Havoc . Ordin vs Warbotron computron. Victorion vs Hades now that's what I call a epic combiner wars battle I would love to see in comics, animation and for video games
it would have been great if they had remolded the groove mold to be able to solidly connect to the combiner chest upside down, but nah, there's no reason to have an actually secure and solid chest.
Supporting the fan built bots is the right thing to do. However, after watching the review, I think you bought her to get her groovy sword. I would liked to have seen Elita One as the core bot, with the other G1 Search for Alpha Trion fembots making the limbs, like Moonracer, Lancer, Firestar and Greenlight. Also, the Elita One color scheme would have made a pretty nice looking team and combiner. The added bonus would have been a fembot of Optimus Prime's stature for him to work with as an equal partner.
me too I really am tired of just Autobots combiners because decepticons are the one to start it. And Nexus Prime is more like decepticon with a little darkness
i agree with you in all your points, at first the cw started good but then it became a full sea of repaints that it's so bad that all the combiners are just the same with the new color of the day. i also want to support fan build which i have to get victorion but its hard to do so when this one gave us 6 recolors with minimal to non retooling and if we do support it then Hasbro will just abuse this and cheap on us again. at least we had some good molds here and there i guess....
I SEE WHAT YOUR SAYING ABOUT THEM BEING THE SAME BUT FOR ME DIFFERENT HEAD DIFFERENT NAME NEW CHARACTER I LOVE THE COMBINER WARS LINE THANK YOU FOR A AWESOME REVIEW
I agree with you that the remoulds got boring, I hope that they don't do that with the Titan's Return series, but they probably will. I also agree with you about the colour scheme. The reds and greens seem to me a Decepticon colour combination, not very Autobot-like at all. Also, about those mysterious silver markings that looked alien, they are a real font called "Ancient Autobot". Here is a link to the font, www.fonts101.com/fonts/view/Techno/56727/Ancient_Autobot. I bet the markings are written in real English, they just used an unusual font.
Dahell are you talking about, Marcus? They're in the IDW comics, they've had a combined mode since the first issue they were introduced.... That's their whole gimmick. They were designed as a fan-built combiner, so of course they have a combined mode. They didn't exist before the vote......
Shame we never got a combiner wars nexus prime, but hey maybe prime wars part 3 will give us a nexus prime combiner with a titan master or whatever the new gimmick will be
