@@qxillanote9952 I picked mine up second hand about 5 years ago and that fap was terrifying tight to get up there, I can understand him not figuring it out if it's stuck like that.
This is such an underrated figure. In some ways, I like it more than CW Onslaught. While the G1 figure is tall and slender like CW, the thick , sturdy look ssuits a character who transforms into an APC. The only real negatives to me are the siren mishap, transforming the rear/cage/legs, and the gun barrels on the turret being easy to lose. Mine were loose and fell out somewhere.
This is genuinely one of my favourite toys of all time. It's easily one of my favourite TF designs It's so good it convinced me to get Stormcloud and Darkwind just to have a cool set It's so good it's convinced me Onslaught is my favourite combiner member He's like an 8/10 overall but idk I'm obsessed
So cool! I remember seeing this, the leader Powerglide and some other Universe 2008 figures in the Argos catalogue back when I was a wee lad and being so excited about how cool they all were! I never picked them up, but seeing this again, it looks like the ultimate kids' dream toy!
The arm cannons are likely limp due to being in the stored position for so long that the spring lost its strength. Same thing happens if you leave a Nerf gun in the ready position for years.
I have the Hardhead version of this mold and it's honestly pretty sweet. They also fixed the siren loop for that version so while I like the Onslaught deco a bit better I'd highly recommend Hardhead to someone who wants the full electronics.
This alt-mode makes me imagine a world where, as an extension of Barricade being a dirty cop, Onslaught is his commissioner that makes a mild fuss about his dealings if only to keep up the bare minimum appearance of procedure but actually LOVES the crooked shit that Barricade does and rewards him under the table.
weirdly enough I love non combining combiners?? you get to enjoy them as characters instead of simply pieces of a puzzle. This onslaught, universe Evac, Gto Hotspot, universe drag strip, botcon breakdown, arms micron wildrider, the Prime protectobots set, movie aerialbots and vortex etc
I get you. I like having a solid, sturdy and stable final product that looks good and plays good, over something that has cool gimmicks but are fiddly and fall apart when playing with them. Not the same thing exactly but it's also the reason why I don't mind partsforming when done well.
It's crazy that they didn't properly program your Onslaught's siren! I got mine secondhand so I don't know if he was processed where your batch's was, but my Onslaught's siren loops and I've had him for a while!
I have a silverbolt from that line. I still have the fugure but lost the blaster and the dart. I even put the figure in a school time capsule that wasn't opened until I was in grade 9.
I actually own this version of onslaught because I live nearby a retro game store which is where I bought my G1 1984 Mirage which is still in its packaging.
The leg cages themselves might not be that brittle, but I've heard the pegs the cages will connect to might break, I've seen a few copies with that problem. As for the robot itself...I've been on the fence with this for a long time, have had several chances to buy him really cheap but still held off on doing it (okay, I actually missed to put a bid on one auction, which was also a new and unopened bot in box for just 15 euro!), sooo...might get him one day, might not. Doesn't feel very important in my collection but still a cool robot to have.
Actually saw this used for 30 at tftoys (the physical store in alberta), but didn't really know much about it so I bought something else. Kinda regret it now.
I still have my OG version and yes..this us 1 of my favorite universe 08 figures too. I wish we got the whole team. The butt flap can be pushed/slid up onto his lower back. Dope review.
I got this guy earlier this year, he's amazing! Later in I got his upgrade kit that gives him more weapons and a headmaster head! Also, his buttflap can be slid upwards
I used to have this as a kid and my parents HATED when I used to move his legs or ram him into my optimus prime because of the fucken sounds it made😭 We used to live in a small apartment so whenever I played with my leaderclass or anything with ratchet joins they could hear it while watching tv...
There is an upgrade kit for this that converts him from a decepticon to an autobot...new sticker sheet, extra back pack and weapons and even a replacement head thats a headmaster
I got both this and the hardhead version at the same time as a kid but I don’t have hardhead anymore, does anybody else remember the sound effects glitch being the opposite on hardhead where the siren was continuous but the gun sounds only lasted a second
God I love when combiner characters get to be their own thing. TFP breakdown, Animated Swindle I love it! I want more of them to be their own characters
Honestly I think they messed up programming the wheel sound as well, I can hear the start and end of an engine sound, with the tiniest sliver of a diesel engine chug in the middle
Love this figure, Mines currently on my dresser rn, unfortunately I lost the riot shield, 1 Claw, and the artillery on his back, the feet cages, and one of the feet are loose, other than that tho, love this figure, my one big issue with it, may just be my copy, but when folding the wrists in, they are ridiculously difficult to pop back out, this lead my copy to be fistless for YEARS… yeah younger me couldn’t get them out at all lol
Update I found one of the artillery missiles and they are near impossible to put back in… I noticed screws on the turret so I thought I could just pop the top off and put it back in but nope… 2 of the screws are completely inaccessible and I don’t think opening up the entire toy to gut it from its electricals to put back the artillery until I at least find both… might not even do it at all, looking for a tear-down video but one probably doesn’t exist so urm yea 😅
