RID had interesting designs. It’s a shame the show didn’t give it justice. At least the toys are sweet. Fingers crossed we get updates to some of these characters into Legacy Evo. Also as a big fan of Mirage I approve of your statement.
@@wakspacific6928 And also leaked listings for Cyberverse Windblade, Shadowstriker, & Chromia, which would be AWESOME!!! I LOVE Cyberverse Windblade & Shadowstriker! Chromia would go really well with Legacy Elita-1
@@irontownpictures9283 the toy was apparently designed first, and Bludgeon being cut from the show, they didn't want to modify the show model as much to save money.
While I never had any desire to collect any of these, I still appreciate the look back as a whole, and subjectively what made these worth buying in the first place. Designs as a whole are very good just never liked the hollow/simplified approach that seemed to carry over from Beast Hunters/that era of Generations toys. Really excited to see what Hasbro can do with the Strong Arm design as a deluxe in Legacy though.
I like him too, wish he wasn't a Porsche tho. RotB Mirage, Bumblebee, Arcee, and Optimus (for the most part) are the best RotB Autobot designs, Wheeljack is trash. I also like Scourge, Battletrap, and I can't say anything for Nightbird cuz that mainline figure was bad, For the Maximals, Primal's good, Air razor is fine, Rhinox (from what we know) is fine, and Cheetor is trash (mainly SS)
@@MisterSandmanAU I rather Cheetor have a nice yellow & blue & more BW-y or Cyberverse-y head sculpt. And the cat mode of the SS one looks REALLY off, & the colors are not helping.
If you can find ToyHax’s sticker fixer, you can fix Bee’s stickers. And I have a theory, based on Bumblebee’s design from the show, I think that Bumblebee was supposed to be Smokescreen. The RID Bumblebee design has more in common with the Prime Smokescreen design than Prime Bumblebee, and personality wise he seems to be more like Smokescreen. I think they wanted to use Smokescreen, but Hasbro jumped in and said “Use Bumblebee! We need to sell Bumblebees!!!” I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am.
that actually makes a lot of sense, espically personality wise, why would bumbleebee be butting heads with optimus throughout the show? just didn't make sense, as to why their relationship soured, vs smokescreen getting jealous of his shot at glory being stolen from him
Nah, there’s no way they were gonna make smokescreen be the main character, not saying he doesn’t deserve it, it’s just they always were gonna go with bumblebee probably for how popular he is and how he was one of the main characters in the show. I love smokescreen and he does deserve it though and maybe you are right you never know. I don’t really think so but I still respect y’all’s opinions
@@gehrigrozakis5401 There is evidence that they probably did do it, you ever wonder why Grimlock acts the way he does in RID 2015? That because he wasn’t supposed to be Grimlock, he was supposed to be a different type of Dinobot. Hasbro made them change it because they know Grimlock would sell and to match AOE. If you still don’t believe that’s cool, but I’m seeing things that suggest that that’s what happened. I think the idea was to continue Smokescreen’s story and finally make him the leader he wanted to be, but Hasbro stuck their noses into the writer’s business. Or maybe it was supposed to be Hot Rod because Smokescreen respected Optimus? I don’t know. The more I think about it, the more I confuse myself.
@@gehrigrozakis5401 maybe, however his personality is just off, he's arrogant and very cocky, while you could make a point the fame of a warhero, could get to his head, but it didn't when he got promoted, so to me it does seem more logical, for smokescreen to have fame go to his head and give him an ego instead of bee
Bisk/thermidor was a recent buy of mine, as well as scorponok. Love em both, thermidor is a cool simple uniqe transformation and looks good in both forms. Also got a megatronus when the show was out, and also gives me vehicon vibes, like a tank or heavy duty vehicon.
Bisk is my absolute favorite. The only problem is the way his head was designed makes it prone to falling apart - the rubbery face doesn't like to stay connected to the hard back piece. I ended up super gluing it back together, which has held up so far.
I wasn't into combiner wars that time so these guys were all I picked up, by today's standards most of them are lacking in many areas but theyre still really fun to mess with. I particularly love the decepticons with their weird animal designs. I kinda regret not picking up some of the later figures in combiner force since they seem to be really good like soundwave, stormshot, blastwave and bisk/ thermidor
On Bee there is a small tab that you can cut a little (Emgo points it out) that locks the back leg kibble further down and gives him heels. I remember doing it on mine and had no standing problems afterwards.
I have all of the RID2015 Autobots. I didn’t get any of the Decepticons because they were all really weird in that series, but I loved the Transformers from that line. They were very fun to transform, very clever, and often surprising ways to do things.
Brooo I loved this line! Still do! Not expensive, but still had very clever engineering and designs, and I didn't mind that the plastic was not great. I wonder if the new Earthspark deluxes and warriors are similar to these figures? Also, you NEED to get the RiD Warrior Soundwave if you haven't already got him! Him and Thermidor are probably my favourites, and I have most of the warriors :)
I need to get into some of this RiD line. I had a 3 step Grimlock but moved that on. Got a 3 step Thunderhoof too. They kinda aren't my normal thing though seeing as they're pretty much big slabs with a neat transformation gimmick. But, I have the Warrior class Bisk figure on the way that I purchased off Bretosaur. Looking forward to that. As far as I'm aware it never came out in the UK, which probably explains why I've had trouble finding one for sale.
I have warrior bludgeon and his pretool/repaint blastwave(?). Really cool mold, and both paint schemes work really well. I really want to get bisk, his figure always looked really fun
@@christianwelch4206 Probably RID 15 Strongarm because aside from Animated, she’s the most noteworthy of the Strongarms and has appeared in G1-related IDW comics.
I don’t know why he never became another G1 transplant character since he’s got a style all to his own and could easily be a legal-safe rival to Lockdown.
Grejevor/Rollbar is by far my favorite rid deco and mold, it's just that good. I gave mine siege Aimless because it's the only gun with a handle long enough to not fit the kibble but other than that she's perfect
There's an original GoBot called Scorp that has a fairly sleek scorpion alt mode. Always liked that one as a kid. Totally forgot about it until I watched this...
the rid toyline kind of strikes me as a new age animated in a way. not quite as much budget, but very dedicated to the style of the show and trying a bunch of new stuff in terms of character design. seriously, the rid decepticons rule.
I wish the show had advertised these better as a kid, because I was really on a hate train for it after the art-style change. I hated all the little gimmicky figures and the "weird" designs. I feel like if they'd done a little more to show off just what these toys were, 13 year old me would have been much more interested. In the last few months I've found basically complete Soundwave, Snapdragon, Strongarm, and Prowl. Pretty solid figures, definitely interested in grabbing more.
The only one I have is warrior blurr. He’s a pretty solid figure. Some of the adventures repaints look pretty awesome. Have you seen the Platnium Edition Bee and Grimlock. The grimlock is a remold of the FoC one remolded to look like RiD 15, it’s pretty cool looking
I’m telling you now. The warrior class grimlock is very good. A solid amount of articulation and nothing feels loose (and I’ve had mine since it came out) heavily recommend
There was something in RID 2015 that differs from prime is that a lot of creativity that was used and the result is making a lot of new decepticons like Thunderhoof and Underbite and even some character models like Ped and Steeljaw were used for different decepticons like Crustacion and Polarclaw , What was weird about the series was the transformation sequence scenes like bumblebee's car headlights become part of the chest and the windshield(I think) the legion and One Step versions borrow things from that like the legion uses the windshield as the chest The one step version however borrows the transformation style of the show transformation so this is an example of how weird the transformations were in the show , Another example , Blurr's car spoiler ends up as a part of the backpack instead on the shoulders
hey, i still have steeljaw and grimlock from this series. Suprisingly, steeljaws tail still holds him up, and grimlocks is also totally fine(his elbows are fine too, especially suprising considering my younger brother use to play with it when he was much younger)
I remember having the rid steeljaw figure it was a pain in the ass to handle just because it would fall over every time I would set it down! Eventually the thing ended up breaking because I accidentally set a dresser drawer on it
I think you kinda showed the biggest strengths and weaknesses of these figures. Design wise, I couldn’t point out a design that downright doesn’t work, but certain weird QC and engineering things bring figures down a notch, COUGH, COUGH, Grimlock arms. However, when the design comes out without any of that stuff, the figure hits HARD. I love RID drift so much I picked up all the variants.
the grimlock was the most screen accurate in bpth modes. it he was just voyager size with a few more points of articulation, it would have been perfect
Is the black area behind Strongarm’s hood in both mode supposed to be the grill or windshield in the animation model? I know the toy did fake alt mode parts, so it was never clear to me
The only figures I have from this are storm shot (I call him Jetfire cause heaven forbid a small Jetfire releases that's affordable) Soundwave, and Starscream. They are all pretty solid to me. Starscream is definitely the one that might be in need of an upgrade but they are all pretty solid
While I appreciate the RID15 toyline, I think I prefer the Takara version, Transformers Adventure mainly because it has animate toyline figs like Lockdown, Swoop and Slug in his AOE colors (And this is coming from someone who has never owned both toys)
Hey that toy guy ur Steel jaw was miss transformed u gotta rotate the end of his tail 180 then flip it in that way it looks better and im pretty sure rolls better too
YES! FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS THAT RID MIGHT NOT JUST BE THEIR THING! THANK YOU! I liked RID because I haven't watched Prime at the time, so thank you for not saying that the show is straight bad!
Funny when i was a kid ordering the figure that this mysterious red and green transformers figure is really rid bumblebee i can recodnize the car his head design i knew it was bumblebee but with green and red i think blue design
your problem isn’t just a takara or you thing I believe, so I had hasbro versions of the mold and got the 1st one with problems but when I got a 2nd one it dint have any problems (probably just a early run thing but im not sure)
I really like the vehicle modes for a lot of these toys(and the designs for the vehicle modes in general besides bumblebee and prime) but man do the robot modes designs suck as toys and in the show definitely the only thing that doesnt make me want to pick these up.
I actually think RID15 was a decent show albeit one with a case of severely undeveloped story elements, namely the situation on Cybertron, partially let down by Hasbro’s insistence on maintaining the aligned continuity at the time forcing comparisons to Prime into peoples minds. Though I will be fair to it in that regard, I think story arcs directly following up elements from Prime like the often-acclaimed Starscream arc were very well handled and I think if more TF fans were honest they’d admit that there are MANY episodes of Prime that are just as kid friendly as most of RID15, especially the mostly-filler of season 1. The show wasn’t in super serious mode all the time the way it’s gone down in history as being
I actually had a version of Fracture where he had his minicons that could launch out of him but it burned down along with my house almost a decade ago. Pain. Edit: Also the motorcycle mode was broken due to the whole minicon thing and nothing would tab in properly. More pain.
I enjoyed these toys I had like a inverted bumblebee and a G1 recolor for grimlock and the jazz I colored my bumblebee all black to make like a Knight rider transformer idk lol and the jazz's articulation was interesting and I wasn't a fan of that and the grimlock was fine lol
